Actually...

Hold on a moment - Why the hell is a scientist at Christian Dock telling us about this incident at Obsidian?

FD have ballsed-up here...

I reckon that story was, as suggested, written a while ago - before Obsidian Orbital was deployed. Palin was based at Christian Dock, as we all know, but got evicted.

I reckon the original intention was for this to happen at Christian Dock, but they've instead took it to Obsidian Orbital because it's better. Of course it's better. But that article wasn't rewritten properly.

I don't understand why it's coming from there otherwise - doesn't make any sense.

Anyway, enough immersion-breaking from me...

Another new barnacle sighting:

I must admit that I haven't found them by pure coincidence. There is a method to find them, which suceeds almost surely. Hint: You can see their approximate position from orbit

However this one was one of the more challenging ones.

Orbit as in how high up?

If you could explain the method to the community here, it could be a highly valuable service, sir, and I could put it on the Frontpage as well.

It could allow other CMDRs, who are looking for Barnacles out there in the void, to raise their chances.

Unless you prefer to keep it all for yourself, for some unexplicable reason. ;)

I still think they meant the scientist was a part of the original team in Christian Dock now moved to Obisidian. It was probably just worded poorly.

Otherwise why would they recycle some piece of text that short without double checking?

It could also be a slip where the writer meant to write Obsidian Orbital but out of habit (from talking about future plans) wrote Christian Dock.

It is not Obsidian we need to check. Having reread the Galnet article and Patau82 reminding us that Nganji was where Palin used to be based, Obsidian are worried because they think that if they didn't find Palin there, then that might lead them... home!

I'm in the bubble after doing the Turbo Hour race last night, I've just jumped into a nice unassuming hauler (with wake and cargo scanner) to go to Nganji and Christian Dock to do a bit of recon.

*Edit* It's Obsidian we may need to guard.

Send an PM to NetSlayer and he can add it to the sheet.

I'd like it if you could submit barnacle coordinates via the form, this puts it immediately into the sheet.
My dyslexia makes data entry pretty slow... I already have formulas that count planets for me, in case I skip something... xD

Just meant to tease a little bit.

Hope this ain't a spoiler :

Pale Yellow-Green "Mineral rich patches" on Pleiades Sector JC-U B3-2 2 imply an almost guaranteed barnacle find. If the surface is green, then there is at least one barnacle, which does not necessarily mean that it is easy to spot, and that it actually is on green ground. As you already know, in most cases, barnacles are located close to a canyon or wall, but not exclusively.

Another interesting fact:

There actually IS a use for impulse/shock mines - it will blow off all barnacle arms at once, something which other explosives like rockets do not. So it is a neat tool for barnacle farming. Unfortunatley, limpet drones won't work.

Christian dock was the station he was based at just before CG to build him a new lab in maia, don't think he was evicted from that one he just decided to move (thanks to station we added to story :D)
no wonder we couldn't get him to join us ;)

Thanks for sharing CMDR! +REP
The yellow patches thing was already known, but the green part, I was only suspecting it.
The mines trick is very interesting indeed!

If you check the FP, you'll find the submission form that will automatically add your findings to the official spreadsheet.

Anyone else notice that when you lock to a spike the dot in the cursor indication moves about from the main cab but not from the turret view?

That's because it's showing the aim of the turret automatically moving to point at the new target. In turret view aim is under manual control.

BTW: Use the ship for barnacle spotting. You need to search a wide area in most cases even when you know the approximate position.

To coin the term permanently, and scientifically:
"Fehler's Method" ;)

Bravo CMDR! Going to try putting this to the test in my B-Loop trip, and when I return to the Pleiades Nebula, gonna try and spot Barns in a new system.
