SC Flightmodel Discussion

I think people will love having another game to jump too to get away from the stresses of their chosen game.

I know FromHell is clearly in the SC camp and good for him, I have a toe in over there with my rear admiral ships etc... and I have a wealth of benefits there that would upset the beta's here given the reaction to the insurance discount. Buying the bigger ships and weaponry there feels a little pay to win but I am fine with that coz I can afford it... but in the end.. real cash can be lost in seconds in game combat.. Look at it as a hobby and leisure and then losing you maxed out ships doesn't hurt so bad.. the fun of the battle is key.

All in all I hope the issue's will vanish when the games come out and we will all take to the skies to enjoy the game in our own ways. And SC playing ED and ED playing SC... Everyone wins... and I am excited to be part of it.

Yeah there's definitely pay-to-win over there... thinking about how that works makes the anger shown over the 50 percent insurance thing hysterical.

Let not pretend shall we, as we all knows that Braben & Bell is the Grandfather of computer space sim. Most American never heard of Spectrum until the internet came out and remember that everything is overhype and insanely expensive whereever it come or made in America and this is the reason why Commodore 64 cut it price by more than half to attract customers, thanks to our spectrum 48k and Clive Sinclair.

As for ED bashing in SC forum.. I have never been there and not interest or planning to. :)

The main ED topics in the SC forum have mostly been pretty complimentary since the alpha release to be fair, there's only a small number of detractors.

Honestly, the SC community isn't as great as most of the ED is (with exceptions like OP), but I never read ED bashing there. Maybe I read the wrong topics but it's definitly not one of the top topics there.

There is more EVE comparision and what they dislike about it.

I feel the same way about it, I was dissapointed at the flight mechanics of it, hopefully in later builds maybe it will become better, one other thing I thought chris roberts voice was really annoying shock horror
The flight mechanics did seem odd. The ships seemed to act as though they had no inertia. They didn't feel like hulking mechanical objects moving through space, more like plastic models being flipped around on strings.

Yup. That's was exactly what I was trying to say.

yeah :) now go fix the game so us beta players can have a smooth sailing hehe.
back to Sc i gotta say im not really impressed by what i saw

but i always loved he's old games and think sc is gonna be a great game, we are gonna have 2 YEAH! i think they are gonna fix/tweak it when it goes alpha over a while.
but what im really worried about is the pvp/guild in sc That's what i think can be a gamebreaker or way to much Eve stile.
sounds like theres no room for solo play in that world i might be wrong havent been following to closely lately.

so you don´t agree that the way FD treat lower tier backers suck?

Of course you don´t agree - you are "alpha", right?

you got your delivery on time
you got 6 months "exclusivity" instead of 1
you got additional 2 weeks of special snowflakeness.
How could you complain?

I have said (somewhere on this forum recently) let's not have an "us and them" attitude ... we are ONE community.

Interesting how this thread has grown so fast.

Anyway, I don't really like to judge a game engine feel by looking at videos, and SC is still in (pre)alpha - it still has a long way to go, and by the looks of the demo, quite a long way.

From the video, it looks to me that is more arcade styled than ED, aligned with the promised "WWII fighters in space". Some interesting HUD and design options, quite some will naturally need some work. Btw, from the rather short observation of current in development space sims, Limit Theory seems to have the most innovative designs (not necessarily better, but...).

Finally, I already disliked the Hornet looks (fugly) - but looking at it in 3rd person mode with the player inside is just... ridiculous looking ship :p

Beat me to it - your benefits differ depending upon how much you pledged.

SC included alpha for low backers; ED included alpha for high backers .. different operating model; different company; different product; but hopefully the same awesome experience by both games upon release.

You mean like i'm not gonna start Elite Dangerous with an Cobra because i didn't pay enough.

You didn't start Frontier Elite II with a Cobra unless you chose the Lave start. You had the Saker MkIII or the Eagle MkI ... the only reason you started Elite with a Cobra was that it was the only ship you could fly.

Im sorry to bring this to your attention *hugs* nope..

Sorry ....... The cobra is for ED fanboys only... you need to get a Braben tattoo if you want to fly it.. its the rules...

:D

I will lend you my cobra sir.... just keep your shields down and I'll open the hatch and you can jump in...

Say outside Barnard's Star station?

I think the reasoning is : Elite Dangerous use a lot of orange colors and so does the marketing for the Battlefied games and the Battlefild games are super realistic ..right?.. so Elite dangerous is more realistic.

So everything without orange colors is arcade styled..

You logic makes a lot of sense until someone (me) points out that Elite Dangerous has been criticised for being "too arcadey".
Hmm ... guess orange ain't everything.

I can play that game : I thought it was down to the fact that unicorn blood was purple .. and purple is a kind of spoon shaped object .. and we all know that anything that isn't a spoon must be good .. right ?

I think the solution is MORE ORANGE!!!
