That's also true, but it doesn't stop certain forum members trying their hardest to make up for it by taking EVERY opportunity to fan the flames.

Fortunately, their blatant attempts to do this are so obvious it's almost laughable.

Lol hello kettle, I am pot, my oh my aren't you black! ;)

Disliking Star Citizen and saying so on an Internet forum should not be automatically seen as "fanning the flames", IMO.

HOW you say so, well that's something else. Like it or not, both ED and SC are going to be competing for people's time. There is an element of zero-sum game in there, and so I don't think the OP's thread title should be seen as "fanning the flames", either. If SC's gameplay is significantly superior to ED's then actually, we as ED players DO have something to "fear", given that MMO-style games live or die on the number of people playing, and given that people only have a finite amount of time to play computer games.

Cause asking for 200GBP for an alpha is not "milking".
And continuing to keep up the pay walls after missing all deadlines, is also not "milking".
Right?

Right.

I got SC alpha for 30$ back then.
I bought additional ships, because I wanted too, for 300$.
Because CIG knows how to treat all their backers.

I got ED gamma in December 2012 for 20 GBP expecting to get something in MARCH 2014.
I got nothing and they are not even willing to give out the single player demo to everyone at this point, honoring the missed deadlines, plus getting all the intervals between the phases wrong. So with this business practice, I am not willing to pay one more dime.

SC Gameplay looks great by the way, I heard ED alpha never crashes. Right?

Ahhh so that's why you always so negative. Star Citizen fanboi?

Why would I admit something I don't agree with? :S
That would be a weird thing to do...

so you don´t agree that the way FD treat lower tier backers suck?

Of course you don´t agree - you are "alpha", right?

you got your delivery on time
you got 6 months "exclusivity" instead of 1
you got additional 2 weeks of special snowflakeness.
How could you complain?

Also, lets not forget that the whole 'us V them' isn't always a bad thing. There is competition between the two games, it will push both sides to try and better each other and keep each other on their toes, which will lead to innovation and better games on both sides :)

I do try (although sometimes unsuccessfully it seems) to be balanced in my opinions. I'm neither an Elite fanboi or an SC-hater (which I haven't backed, but will most likely buy at retail). So I'm failing to understand your comment.

Agreed, but I wasn't referring to Mobius in my post (who in my experience has been equally critical of both ED and SC in the past).

Hi Pot how you doing? I'm hob.

Eh? What? I don't understand. Could you repeat the question?
Hi psykokow. I hope you don't think I'm holding a grudge because you messed up my carefully-formatted tongue-in-cheek barely-qualifies Drabble many moons ago :)
I fact, I'll prove it by buying you a pint at LaveCon 2014 (or a dram of the good stuff if that's your preference).

They are different business models - they've both been clear about how that side of things work from the start.

You obviously think it's more equitable to have one guy starting on day one in the SC PU with an Aurora and 10k next to another who has an Idris (or two) a fleet of 50 assorted ships, loads of NPC characters plus 100's of thousands of credits because he's been buying the maximum amount he can each month for about two years.

The only differentiator on day one in ED will be Sidewinder or Cobra and something like 2 or 10k credits.

But I can see where you're coming from...

:D

We got 6 months of bug hunting/waiting for a fix, with periods of smooth sailing inbetween

My only worry is that SC will be a failure, leading to their more immature backers hyper-spacing into our galaxy.

Surely not. Not after all the ED bashing that goes on over at the SC forums, they can't be that fickle can they?

My only regret is that we will never know what Elite Dangerous would been with the 40k of SC.

My thought is that Elite Dangeours deserve the same amount of money that SC got.

and that's a pity !

..but money is not all... (i hope..)

I think people will love having another game to jump too to get away from the stresses of their chosen game.

I know FromHell is clearly in the SC camp and good for him, I have a toe in over there with my rear admiral ships etc... and I have a wealth of benefits there that would upset the beta's here given the reaction to the insurance discount. Buying the bigger ships and weaponry there feels a little pay to win but I am fine with that coz I can afford it... but in the end.. real cash can be lost in seconds in game combat.. Look at it as a hobby and leisure and then losing you maxed out ships doesn't hurt so bad.. the fun of the battle is key.

All in all I hope the issue's will vanish when the games come out and we will all take to the skies to enjoy the game in our own ways. And SC playing ED and ED playing SC... Everyone wins... and I am excited to be part of it.

Btw if you want to read a (more or less) fanboy review aka hands on the DFM you can do so here: https://forums.robertsspaceindustri...re-pax-event-pax-east-day-1-dfm-review#latest

Having played ED yesterday I hope that many systems are not that "black" as the one in Premium Beta. Star citizen casted far more a spell over me just by jumping into my ship than ED did with its combat demo. And listening to the commercials and stuff also the sound and music has an edge over what I just heared from ED in MY opinion. Still will enjoy ED too :)

And to OP: After what I have seen you should definitly BE AFRAID that you might like star citizen too  featuring full newtonian physics and stuff.
Reality is too arcadish, agree!

They show a small part of the game in a very unfinished pre-alpha state (something they're very clear about) and people pick it apart because it's buggy and well, unfinished.
I finally get why publishers bother with bullshots and videos that are not actually representative of the final game. At least they don't have to put up with this bull.
