Distant Worlds - A journey beyond the Abyss

I agree NC, all the organisers deserve our thanks.

I know I'll be keeping my friend list and will check in every now and then to see where my fellow explorers are at.

I agree, it was only today I realised I didn't have Erimus or Dr Kaii on my list, so the invites went out. If they have any sense they will ignore it.....

With respect to ne'erdowells infilitrating private groups, I expect anyone planning an attack on the DW Kamzel group would be aiming to do so at either Sadge or BP for maximum effect (not that that's any reason to lower your guard elsewhere.)

On a side note, I don't always confine my research topics to matters astrophysical. Roughly one third of the DW fleet (that portion of it I've seen) are running armed to varying degrees. I've not seen any ships packing an FSD Interdictor, though I sometimes wish I'd brought one myself. Which is not to say that running armed is in any way a bad thing, or that a shielded Anaconda doesn't make a good battering ram. ^^

@erimus, Dr Kaii et al.

We really should have a paypal donation page for you guys so we could drop you the price of a beer or two, to say thanks for all the crazy amount of work you put into this.

On another note, just learned that the collective noun for cockroaches is intrusion. Learn something new ever day!

A view of the rose nebula. If you zoom in, you may be able to see some strange lines and shapes.

Ok so after 3 weeks of exploring, I crashed my ship into a high gravity world. Imagine my UNABATED JOY AND ECSTASY when I discovered, back at Founders World, that my pilot had managed to rescue all of the carbon, sulphur and phosphorous I had collected in my SRV and pile it into the escape pod just before my ship was plastered across said world. I'm so glad he picked these objects rather than the tens of millions of credits worth of cartographic data which is quite dull by comparison. THANK YOU FRONTIER DEVELOPMENTS! xx

Thank you for causing me the need to wipe coffee from my visor. I nearly choked with laughter. I hope you're happy now - kindly consider the consequences of hilarity :D

When my 1st T6 bit the dust and I flew back out I noticed the same - but only after jumping in the buggy and seeing the stash. Seems a bit silly really. I would expect to lose any material I collected if my SRV blew up and I went back to the ship, let alone my ship going 'pop'.

On that note, I'd like to thank you for all your efforts!
Also, recently I was asking myself what will happen with that group when DW is over? I really got used to meet fellow explorers during this journey and I like all those green dots in the galaxy map which make me feel like always being surrounded by friends. If this decision would be mine, I would never leave that group just to see what you're all doing after DW and perhaps meet some of you long after DW is over.

Again Erimus, i salute you. May you and everyone else fly save. o7

Thanks :)

Kamzel group will remain the home of Distant Worlders for as long as they want. I won't ever disband it. There may be a Distant Worlds 3303/4/5 for those crazy enough to want to do this all again one day, so anyone in Kamzel, now and in the future, will always be invited to any future events.

Guys,
you may already be aware of this, in which case move along, nothing to see....:D

Leaving a planet and hitting SC at 22km first dropped me to 13km and then a tad over 9km. I saw a vid a while back of someone being rear-ended by a planet. assuming the numbers are consistent, you don't want to be engaging drive until at least 12km clear

Excellent news. I did the Sag A* run last year and got there on 15th March 3301. It was a lonely trip and sometimes a chore. This, however, hasn't been in any way shape or form! Exactly the opposite in fact. Even just seeing the green icons of your fellow travellers makes you feel like you're most definately not alone. And as for the meet ups, hehehe, well, do I need to say anything?

To me, this is a group of like minded explorers that I would most certainly miss :)

Edit : Visitor no 116 to Sag A* according to the official thread that I just looked up, out of a current 1309. I wonder waht the actual ofiicial numbers according to FD are?

I'm wondering if it gets worse the closer you are to the planet when engaging super cruise. I normally do it now in the high 20's, even 30 km altitude and I only drop a couple of kilometres in altitude after supercruise has engaged. I had a real scare once when I ended up dropping down to about 90 metres! I watch it like a hawk now and video every take off just in case.

Things can also mess up if you find yourself mass locked again.

AAannnnnd... Un-bannned! Yeay...

Had a close call last night - went a little too far below Sag A*, and after a string of T Tauri stars, I realised I may have backed myself into a corner...

After looking at my options, a fuel rat call was certainly looking to be on the cards. Luckily, turned out that FSD boosts don't use as much fuel as you'd think they would. So that F star that look just out of reach... Was comfortably in reach. Never have I been so happ yot hear "Fuel scooping", right after I heard the dreaded "main fuel tank drained"... It was then, that I realised, that I had forgotten to plot the star on EDD2... SO, of course, I had to go back...

Now, hopefully my name sticks on those T Tauris. Thanks to all the folk on Discord who were helping me find a viable route out...

Z...

Howdy everyone.
As an early note I literally can't keep up with all the DW posts and content but massive kudos to all on everything you've done so far!

I've been on my own trip since December when Horizons dropped and on Friday I decided to make the effort to link up with you guys if possible. Ran into a few snags, resulting in the 32,000Ly distance to the core being more like 45,000Ly due to backtracking to cross galactic arms. Either way I'm now within spitting distance at a mere 20KLy so should be at Sag A* Sunday night or at the latest Monday after work (UK time).

Not sure if anyone will be about still of if everyone will be moved on towards the next waypoint but if there are any stragglers hanging around for a while then feel free to add me in-game (same name no space iirc). I'm in a 28.2Ly Anaconda and have 28 fuel limpets if required. Would also be willing to jump into a private group if that's better but I think I'll have to actually get there first since real life may decide to hit me tomorrow :)

Beating the record of 53 people in one instance at Sag A*
Great idea - would like to see if the 53 CMDR record can be beaten.

As for the group issue, I won't be adding players from one to the other - no chance. Kamzel has 750 registered and vouched for players. Erimus group is for unregistered and unknown latecomers, a group I opened on the spur of the moment for players who were stuck in open and wanted to meet other players (something a group helps with). I'm not messing on with group mergers and all the checking roster and admin stuff that goes with it. DWs has already felt like an unpaid job since November at times, I aint doing even more work on it than what I already have to deal with daily! :D.

Simplest solution is for you to create your own group and get players to pop in for the record attempt tomorrow.

Good luck :)

Thank you Erimus. I suppose that this is the only viable solution. And thanks to your and Kamzel hard work it is actually simpler to do: I will only allow people from:

  • Erimus group (at this moment: 227 members, oh I wish that they were printed in alphabetic order ingame) and,
  • those from the rooster in https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=209331 (since I cannot check if someone is in Kamzel group, because I'm not there).

This 'Cosurgi' group is only for the purpose of beating this record, I will be super rigorous about who is let in (Erimus + rooster). And I am assuming that rooster==Kamzel group. So I hope we will be safe from any griefing incidents.

However ATM I don't know if RL will hit me tomorrow, therefore when it turns out that I CAN do that I will announce on discord and here about 14:00 gametime and then I will start gathering people. If I don't announce then it will mean that I couldn't make it and I will feel very sorry :(

EDIT: turns out, we are going with kids to the oceanarium, having some family time. I'll be back around 16:15 gametime. So looks like I will be able to join the event, but I'm not sure that I will be able to help organizing it. We will see when I'm back.
