Resetting your save - did you ever regret it?

I honestly cannot find a reason why I would ever reset my save.

If I want to play games for the purpose of progression, I play others, not Elite. And progression is the only thing that comes to an end sooner or later. I can still go back into a stock Sidewinder and have fun when I am a triple Elite, max. [Faction Rank], triple allied multi-billionaire veteran.

I just won't mind the rebuy any more, which is a big plus in my view.

Yup, and being able to give Palladium to new CMDRs :D

Maybe this has already been suggested, but personally I "soft-reset" the game by deciding that I am not allowed to go below a certain round number of credits in my account or fly without sufficient insurance to ensure I won't (i.e., pretend the balance is that much less than it is), and that I am not allowed to use my stored ships. Then I bought and discarded cargo until I had only slightly above that number of credits, and switched back to my starting ship. I had a lot of fun playing that way for months, but once I got tens of millions of credits above my set limit and had nice upgraded ships again, it started feeling a bit pointless to grind credits for something I already had. So I stopped imposing the limit, and am glad now that I didn't reset my save…

As such, I would say: don't reset for real, just pretend you did.

Of course if your thing is getting the elite ranks or naval rank, you have to really reset to start over, but personally I think those stats are nice to keep.

Last week I was out exploring, thinking of going to Sag A. But felt like doing something else for a while, and I have been thinking it would be fun to start over with just a Sidewinder and 1000 credits. But I also enjoy the freedom of being able to pick a ship out of my fleet or just buy a ship and try it out. My solution was to buy a second copy of the game. $69 well spent. I was a beta backer so the first time I had free eagle and access to Sol and improved insurance which I miss on the new account but also makes it more difficult. I am looking forward to a long trip to Sag A and also being able to do other things and not feeling the need to earn money fast so I can get that next ship since I already own most of them.

If FD had given us the second character slot on our accounts (probably the single decsision they have made that's had me shaking my head the most) I would almost certainly be running a second character now to experience the game in a different wayand that one, I may have considered resetting too.

As it is, I won't be resetting my main character's save simply because in a game with a projected life as long as this one has, that character is a record of my experiences from when I started playing thegame and I simply won't want to lose it.

I think the decision not to allow a second character slot is misguided in the extreme. It's a fairly common feature of online games and to be honest I think it's a bit much to expect players to not only pay for a second copy of the game but also for second copies of every subsequent update in order to play two characters. I can't justify it to myself in terms of the expense.

I can't say I think FD are just chasing the money by refusing to add a second slot because there are so many ways in which they could have leveraged income from the game but chose not to that I don't see them as that kind of company. However I do think they have underestimated how much more longevity some players would get from the game if they were able to run a second character which would in turn make them more likely to invest cash in the extras that are available and also to continnue purchasing the future updates for their single account.

I know this isn't the answer you were asking for but I never needed to do a re-set. Never did 'grinding' since the start of PB (not true, I did a few hours trading in a T6 and worked out a. I was a rubbish trader and b. it just wasn't my bag). Since then I have accumulated naff all squared in comparison to many, about 50 Mil in the bank, a Cobra and a Vulture set up to my liking. My view is don't let the game turn into a pseudo-job, its a big kids plaything so if it isn't fun you really shouldn't be doing it.

You could store your credits in the shipyard and outfitting menus, if you didn't want to burn the cash. Park everything at Trevithick Dock and avoid going back.

My first CMDR on XBox is rear admiral in federal navy and knight in empire. Pilot ranks are Dangerous/Tycoon/Pioneer and has 1.5 Billion credits in assets.

I started ED Horizons on PC in february and had to restart with a second character as we cannot transfer/x-Play on platforms. It was fun but for me as a huge fan of big ships can just say: grinding the ranks for ships I love to fly (FAS and Corvette) is a pain.

Owning all ships and being able to fly every ship I want (atm I start bubble exploriation and planetary exploration with an a rated Orca! pure fun for me) is the kind of freedom I like and I always aimed for in Elite Dangerous. I bought some nice paintjobs for small ships on sale last weekend and it gives me the push to try doing funny things with the small ships I skipped before (Canyon racing with an eagle or taking down an Anaconda with my SideWinder are on my list to do).

So you can downgrade your equipment any time. Sell your fleet and start over with a Sidewinder! But grinding ranks which came to me before while playing the game is nothing I want to do again.

No, I will never erase my save and start over.

Instead of deleting your game, it might be better to start a second commander. Twice, Frontier have offered the game for £10, which is not a lot. I bought an extra commander in each of the sales for doing different things. Sooner or later, it'll be offered again at that price.

is that because you got it due to being elite, or though a bug you got it in error?

because if you got it as a KSer then you should still have it. put in a bug report if so

btw, founders access is largely irrelavent now anyhow.

plenty of systems offer bigger ship discounts and bigger gear discounts.

No I was part of the premium beta bug. We were supposed to lose it when the game left beta. I just didn't realise. Got a surprise the other day when I tried to go there!

Cool and that.... but why?

All the games I played.. I created the character.. I played for a period of time.. then I left the game never to come back.
Why to start all over again if you don't have to?

I reset my game not long after Horizons dropped - tried to give away my assets first, but it was too much work to find people who would take them.

Started playing "AluminumMan" style (not utilizing insurance), and haven't regretted it since. Looking forward to getting back into a Python!

I am a new ED:H player and PC gaming in general and I would love to start a second cmdr. I would never want to erase my first however
most of my PC games come from Steam, except the Witcher games that are on GOG, I don't think Steam allows you to own two of the same game.
If you try to buy a second copy it just says you already have this game in your library.
I guess Steam never considered Frontiers weird saving method. Most games just allow you start a second character and keep your original.

Op don't do it. You may have forgot just how much grinding this game take to get to a decent rank so you can have access to all the cool places one reads about but can't go or join in.
Just think... The Engineers are coming and you might be stuck in a ship that can't reach them, you can't even afford a good scanner or worse yet no rank or permits to enter the areas they inhabit.

Yes, good point. I just happened to be very near a round hundred million boundary so it was very easy to do the math, i.e., just ignore the first digit, so I did that instead. =)

I've considered a clean save, for going barking mad in Open, then starting another clean save after I've had my Dark Side jollies. [squeeeee]

Then I laid down for a while, remembered just how badly my piloting had deteriorated, and just stuck with smaller ships, and smaller self-made goals. I'm too time-limited to play two commanders.

How about roleplaying amnesia?

You have all your credits stuffed to ships in some far away station and then you fly off in a hauler. Get blown up, have amnesia and start in a sidewinder. Start figuring out what caused the amnesia and perhaps start to remember after you have had the fun times with the small ships.

Flying smaller ships and starting fresh is fun but, its not the lack of credits that makes me never even consider reseting save, its the enourmous rank grind for combat, explorer, trade rank...

Military rank oh my god even worse then pilot federation ranks since what you do is completley stupid to advance in rank.

I played alot of ED and Im still not elite combat rank and seems with current system I never hit that goal, explorer even worse.
Trade rank wich seemed bad is the least worst from those 3, because you only gotta get 1 billion from trade/smuggle/missions.

Arena rank hmmm nvm :D

I had a soft "reset" when I blew up a ship with no money to rebuy (I knew what I was doing, I took a risk and I lost). I got bummed out for a few hours, and did wonder if I should bother to start again. I did. But that feeling has made it clear that I don't want to wipe my save.
