A Guide to Minor Factions and the Background Sim

Specifically:
Search By [minor faction name]

I know a lot of folks have requested this.
Personally, I think it would lead to more conflict like the Friends of Mobius vs SDC thing.

And with the introduction of a retreat mechanism, this could lead to groups stomping each other over something that got said on Reddit.

Is that what FDev are thinking for the BGS?
More volatility? More conflict?

Yep! The basis of the game is conflict through PvE. The more chances for conflict, the more players will play...either to attack or 'defend'.

I wonder about those filters... which state are they going to show?

In one of my systems today there are 2 factions in Civil War, 2 factions in Election (including the controlling faction) and another with no state. If you select Civil War then the map should show this system but will it when the controlling faction is not involved? The UI shown allows you to select multiple states, if you have both Civil War and Election ticked will this system show and what colour will it be?

The filters on the galactic map are quite an interesting piece of work.

The filters actually have a hierarchy. Look at the economic filter. If you select everything...you get a picture. If you start changing (removing filters) the the map changes...i.e. if you have all filters on, you see an industrial system...if you shut off all the filters and select only one type of economy, the same system will show THAT economy rather than industrial (if that economy exists within the system).

So basically, if you are looking for an agricultural system, you are better off looking JUST for agricultural...rather than selecting everything and searching that way.

In other news....

The Mercs have figured out how influence decay occurs, and I can predict which factions it will happen to.... Thats right, it does not happen to all. :D

I had doubts because I did not see some factions dropping when I thought they should have. Now I know why! When I share it with you, I will present data. I'm still taking a break at the moment though and don't feel like posting something big at the moment but I will.

I'm sure this had been answered many time, but to save me having to search back through 170 pages (the forum search was not too great a help); if expansion takes 5 days, at what point during that, does the expansion actually take place? Is it the end?

the moment, your expansion is active (e.g. not pending anymore, listed as active state), you should have your minor faction added to another system.

if not, you might have had a failed expansion (for exampel because there have been none inhabited system in range, but also for other hidden factors).

are state effects applied retrospective?

a state goes active with a tick. are the effects applied to all actions since the last tick? or are they only apllied to "future" actions?

exampel: civil war goes active. effects like: influence is only shared between to factions. does this already apply to all actions since the last tick?

Yes. The sum of influences of two factions is locked on the last day of their pending conflict. Which makes this day special. You can still do any actions to help your faction, not only combat related ones.

does the same applies to other states? for exampel: lockdown. tick-1: lockdown pending. you do a lot of actions for your minor faction. tick0: lockdown goes active, and all actions of the last 24 hours have no effect?

Sorry, no idea, never experienced lockdown (and civil unrest, famine and outbreak too).

Should do. It seems to change the states before it works out influence changes so I'd imagine this is how it would work for lockdown too.

Either my forum/Google fu is weak or this doesn't exist yet.... is there a list of all the different population size categories? Eg tiny, very small, large, huge etc?

Else I'll just cack up my own list

So, what do we know about disappearing CZs?

We had experienced them before, and I had read report of them, but today was the first time they interfered with something fairly important to us.
The civil war began with this morning's tick, and then all the CZ's disappeared at around 2200 Gametime.

Anyone had an answer for this happenstance?

The recent bugs with CZs have usually been all or nothing ordeals. I haven't seen any reports of CZs that started out working correctly then disappeared. Could be that they moved to another planet or it could be system caching issues. On the first day of a conflict, sometimes you have to jump to 4 or 5 other systems and come back for the CZs to appear correctly.

But if you've: checked within 1000 Ls of all planets and stations, cleared your system cache, and double checked your navigation filters and the CZs still aren't there, I'd file a bug report. They just made changes to this in the last update, so they need the feedback.
