Your TOP 3 wish-list items for the Elite...

1. Making the military a proper *career* (which they have said is on the cards for this season).

2. Passenger missions.

3. Overhaul of Power Play-so it has proper missions attached to it, & is much more dynamic.

1) Better persistence between your actions and the game
2) Legitimise piracy as a role
3) Better social tools and MP options

(1) Persistence
The game lacks pretty much any persistence.

  • If you go to a RES site and farm 10,000 criminals they are still going to respawn and gleefully arrive to be destroyed. Why, as you hand in your bounty chits, does the BGS not take notice & reduce the number of them spawning next game tick ? Or even if you go on a wanton killing spree there does the game not notice and start to send more police patrols ?
  • If you act like a criminal and kill everything in sight why do the NPCs simply turn red / hostile but still allow you to dock at the station to refuel, rearm, only to set off again to murder their kind once more ?
  • If you're mining an asteroid belt and repeatedly bring in the same minerals why doesn't the BGS take notice of this and dramatically drop the demand or price over time ?
  • Why are all commodities artificially clamped between a set range ? Set them free !! I remember during the KS DBOBE mentioned that people would be able to find rare opportunities to cash in on - so where are they? Starving planets, for example, need food - the state only lasts a relatively short amount of time so during this period why isn't the price of food 10x or even 100x the usual price?
  • When you are sent on a kill mission, regardless whether you succeed or fail why doesn't the BGS take notice and address you about this ? Say you kill Pirate Lord X of Faction Y - why doesn't then Faction Y come looking for you later ? Why at a later stage does the BGS not send you on more kill missions for Faction Y, reminding you that you did a great job last time taking out Pirate Lord X ?T
  • The list goes on ...

(2) Legitimise Piracy

  • Piracy is a legitimate activity within the game but many people simply see the act of firing upon someone else as "griefing". This could be mitigated somewhat by legitimising piracy as a role with strict rules governing it. During the DDF FD introduced the "hoist the flag" mechanism - a means to inform the game and your prey (PC or NPC) that you intended to pirate them. If they surrendered then there would be an exchange of goods and off you went, with the net result being your piracy rating went up. Blowing up a surrendered ship dropped your rating. This single fact alone of giving the victim the option to decide their outcome empowers them as they know if the pirate (PC or NPC) breaks their word it hurts them. Give piracy a rating; introduce surrender mechanics; beef up C&P (coming in 2.1 alledgedly) and distinguish between real pirates & murderers.
  • Whilst on the subject of piracy why are restricted / illegal goods not worth 10-100x their value on the black market ? (Give smugglers some love and not just via the cheesy missions that are available !!) Why in fact does the black market just look like a place holder ? Develop it more so that those who seek the piracy role have some place to trade. Yes, in general you take a hit to your income but it raises your piracy rating at the same time.

(3) Comms & MP options

  • This is a 2016 MMO style game, not a 1984 Bulletin Board game, so give the players the tools they need to socialise. It's a great way of bringing the wider community together (those who don't frequent forums) and allows people to form bonds which keep them playing in the game. Introduce an IRC style relay server; set up some specific channels (Federation / Empire / Alliance / One each for the powers); give them options (swear word filter / mute people / report) and allow the players to opt-in whilst docked to connect to the system. Docked at a Fed station - enrol them to the Federation channel. Member of Hudson ? Enrol them to that also. That way you can introduce yourself to new players, talk about things in game, set up alliances, and before you know it people will feel like the game is alive !
  • Couple that with harder missions - ones that you could do solo but are designed for a wing. Grant players the ability to share missions which would complement the comms system. Before you know it groups of random players will get together to take on some new content within ED, all the time knowing that someone might be listening in on their plans ;)

Looks like your #1 is one step closer to reality :).

So many good ideas in here. The NPC crew members are something that could be awesome. Hire them to do specific jobs, like target power plants when combat is started, things like that. Lower landing gear, fix modules.

Ive always had this idea of being able to collect mementos from the CGs that you contribute to. You could display them in your hanger or the common places of your ship. You could look back and see the details of what tier it hit, and what the results were of them. We've all spent hours and hours and tons of money (in game) on setting up your own little place in games like Fallout, would love the chance to do the same on a station 1000lys from earth

So, sort of like achievements but represented in-game instead of being an overdesigned logo buried in a menu somewhere?

1. Variety - station exteriors, interiors with appearance tied to economic and political state. Poor and dirty. Damaged at war. Rich and shiny. etc.
2. Co-operative missions - this may come with multi-crew, but co-operative missions that REQUIRE a wing to complete.
3. Group identity and management - not to be confused with Guilds et al. The ability to join a minor faction. Have in-game comms voice, text chat and messages for minor faction. Your group identity visible in all modes of play. Like private groups, players apply to join. Multiple commanders can be admins of group (not just one).

1) faction ranks mutually exclusive. You can NOT be both Admiral (Fed) *and* a King (Imp).

This! And also for everything, including PP. Flying into a permit-locked imperial system with a federal corvette... Yeah right. :D

Edit:

Btw, here's my list:
1, Walking around (in ships at least)
2, More station/structure (for 2.4, like 1.5 was "ships")
3, Complete PP rework, like getting rid of it and make minorfactions and superpowers pledgeable with additional group/faction communication system.

Fly safe Commanders! o7

1.1) some sort of meaningful rank structure for Alliance

This would be great. It's really goofy seeing Imperial-aligned groups flying Corvettes and Assault Ships and Fed-groups of old flying Clippers and Couriers. I would love to see more actual consequences from aligning yourself to a specific faction.

What about the times they have allowed Imperial ships to be sold to people without Imperial rank?

If this game didn’t change from today, id still play it almost every day. The fact that so much is coming down the pipe line is awesome, as is the life that is in this community.
There are endless threads on DLCs and future updates/fixes and content. I’m wondering what your TOP desire for possible future content is….
Mine are, at the moment:
1- 1 - Ability to walk around, explore, decorate/customize your ship.

2- 2 - Ability to rent a personal hanger at your favorite station to display/store your ships, walk around, explore/customize your hanger

3- 3 - David Braben bobblehead

Interested in yours

Your top 3 items are superficial aesthetic improvements? I thought ED pilots would be interested in improvements to the actual gameplay, not the ability to post pretty decorations to show off in a video or screenshot.

Yeah, things like that mean it would be quite problematic to implement well. Not saying I have a great solution (I'm Fed ranked up to Rear Admiral, and have some Imperial rank and a rankless-Clipper myself, for what it's worth), but I would be willing to give up or both of those if it meant that faction-specific perks would stay more faction-specific and add more RP-flavor to the galaxy.

Aside, but related kind of; I'd love to see faction-specific ships better implemented for official NPC's of that faction. it would be cool if I could tell whose space I was in just by what the local system authorities were flying, for instance.

That's hit top 3. Maybe he enjoys showing off a beautiful I game? As much as the gameplay lacks this game is actually really quite gorgeous.

Trading/finance needs a major overhaul. Its still as simplistic as it was back in the ZX Spectrum days. You should be able to negotiate a better price, arrange contracts to source/supply and deliver rather than just turning up on spec with a cargo to sell at a fixed price. Traders want to trade and do deals. Its far too easy to make money currently and not even very interesting, just finding a profitable route and grinding back and forth. We should have to work a bit harder for our money. Loan finance and ship mortgages should allow traders to make bigger deals but at greater risk to their business. Nobody in the entire Elite galaxy ever went bankrupt!

Ship operating overheads. For traders there is almost zero overhead to their business. Stations should charge for landing fees, hangar fees, warehousing. Ships should need regular maintenance, not just damage repair. Skimp on this and expensive failures result, needing an EVA to bodge a fix en route or a costly dry dock.

Ship battle damage to be more realistic than the reducing % score. Systems should be knocked out and damage control systems/NPC crew used to repair/workaround on the fly, seal off bulkheads to prevent losing cargo or fuel out of a hull breach etc. Fly/Fight/Fix all at once

Walking around stations/ship/planets. EVA on planets, I want to leave footprints! EVA to repair damaged ships en route

Other bits:
Ship names
An easier to use external view
Rental of hangar/warehouse space, somewhere to keep your stuff or display your achievements (hopefully in future the ability to build your own small facility somewhere)

1) Ships, ship modules and ship cost economy tweaked and rebalanced.
2) BGS polished, especially for missioning and economic activity.
3) Grindy aspects of the experience dragged out around the back of the nearest space shed and shot.
