The unavoidable poll: PvP vs PvE!

What is more important for you: PvE or PvP?

  • PvE

    Votes: 609 83.3%
  • PvP

    Votes: 122 16.7%

  • Total voters
    731
  • Poll closed .
Virtually no one does.... they just don't like the shoot-em-up flavour that randomly gets applied by certain players. We can either deal with that or tell them their concerns are invalid and stupid and they should shut up

Which is more productive?

The way in which you so cleverly put those words in my mouth is really quite beautiful. Unfortunately, I never once said that the concerns of the pve crowd are invalid, nor have I said they should shut up. This was merely an effort to show him/her the error of their line of thought and attempt to get them to address/include in said line of thought the fact that a single question poll on a forum is in no way representative of the community at large. As I said in one of my first posts in the thread, I enjoy both play styles and therefore declined to vote because of such.

A good case for this would be the Diamond Frogs themselves. We participate extensively in our own forums/Inara/Discord and of our 600+ member roster, there are maybe a dozen of us that actually visit this forum with any type of frequency. I assure you, I could skew the results of this poll to favor pvp with only a few words. Would you still feel that it would be an accurate representation of the Elite Dangerous player base if it were to favor pvp? I think not.

Put down the salt shaker. Move along.

I have highlighted your comment that made me think of below :)

My apologies - I didn't mean to put words in your mouth. I thought you said the results of this poll were basically invalid and pointless to discuss, but I may have misunderstood you.

Cor :D you're such a big man with your gang :D look at me quaking in my spaceboots.

And I suspect Mobius could put a request for 20,000+ in the UK group alone to do the same. Hey look - I can wee to the top of the wall

Let's be productive, not wave our memberships at each other, you'd be outvoted by a factor of 33.3.

It's safe to say that once you start asking clans to vote, then the poll invalidates rather quickly. On either side; luckly the numbers are small enough to determine that it's regular traffic that is voting.

Suddenly if within a few hours 10,000 people vote PvE then imo the poll suddenly obsoletes, and it loses value.

Productive? Big word coming from you. <3

I kid, I kid. I was simply making a point about who visits the forums and who doesn't and questioning whether these forums really could be a reflection of the community at large.

Nobody likes to be randomly destroyed for no reason, not even me. However, until Frontier actually steps up and stops hiding from the forums where this matter is concerned, we're never really going to know how they feel or what they intend to do about the current pvp/pve status of the game. It's disappointing.

Hah :D

I think they want us to work it out between ourselves, then we can't blame them if we don't like it. We should be able to do that.

I'm kinda wishing I was beta'ing just to turn wildly criminal and see how the security/police responses are working. I suspect once there are clearer safe/unsafe zones a lot of problems will evaporate completely as for those who don't seek it out the encounters will be rare and meaningful

Tho also I just want to see battleships by stations with CG's on defending the traders, the lack of occasional big ships there is my biggest gripe, it added so much cheap depth/story feel.

Did they alter the police response based off of system security for 2.1?

I was unaware if so. Haven't seen it mentioned in my regular sifting through the forums.

The forums are FDEV's greatest portal into what players feel about ED. They collate the majority of their intel here, so it is extremely official.

If less than 20% of the playerbase cares about PvP, hopefully FDEV will concentrate on the immersion, than spend their waking lives twiddling dials to keep PvP balance to appease a huge minority of the playerbase.

We need space legs, planets to explore, ships to walk around, stations to meet and greet.

We don't need 0.1% damage reduction to xyz ship for the 3000th time, or heat balance on module abc increased by 0.0004%, and twiddled heat sink quantities because 18% of people are hell bent on turkey shoots.

You do realise that there is no dedicated PvP forum yet, and those who do PvP stay FAR away from here. Even a whisper about PvP gets all the 'Griefer!' comments going.

You're right on the moneyNo matter how you look at it, an 82.4% majority, even in a small % of player base is indicative of a certain demographic of gamers choosing to make ED their home. It's natural politics that folks will counter argue against polls. In fact i'm not even sure if FDEV will even second-glance this. It's mostly sheer curiosity that the results are what they are. Personally I thought the margins will be a lot tighter.. If it's on paper it's realhttps://pbs.twimg.com/media/ChslBlhWMAAyAhE.jpgand is it just me or is Rinder trying to do a 'Magnum' pose?http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_dwJMm4QVlVA/TPXR2TOmB2I/AAAAAAAAAE0/9f4ceGn3t4E/s1600/zoolander_face-.jpg
For what it's worth, I didn't vote because these PVE vs PVP forum polls are stuuuuuupid. Like me, i suspect a lot of people that enjoy PVP just look at these threads and shake their heads. Meanwhile, the PVE group gets together like they're voting for a president. They all point their fingers and scream at their computer with spittle flying from their mouths, "SEE SEE! Everybody hates PVP! EVERYBODY wants World of Warcraft with spaceships!"

I don't hate PvP. I actually rather enjoy it. Elite simply is not a forced PvP game though - and no matter how much one part of the community wishes otherwise - I don't see that changing. Even if FD did cave in and say "OK pew-pews, you win - everyone is now forced into Open" the PvP crew would have about 5 minutes of rejoycing and seal-clubbing everything in sight, and then it would all go quiet. They wouldn't see a thing. They would have broken their own game.

Choice is a good thing. Mode equality is a good thing. Forcing someone to play with you is not a good thing.

PVP and PVE need each other. They make the other better. Without PVE, PVP is just an arena shooter. But without PVP, the PVE becomes stale, boring, and repetitive. I think you're being hyperbolic with your scenario though. That's not say I'm entirely against the other modes. I think they're fine the way they are, mostly. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if they weren't there, but they don't bother me like they do some people.

In your opinion, of course (although you're probably right about PvP needing PvE).

Some PvE players are quite content never to encounter a PvP player.

No amount of PvP would make my game better.

From the same internet that brought you Boaty Mcboatface.

Don't get me started....... It's not that I LIKE the name .. But it was the chosen name fair and square but they have decided it IS silly name (it is)so are ignoring the poll and calling it the Sir David Attenborough.

If they did not want to go with the poll... Don't do the poll.

They could have have at least gone with the 2nd place name Poppy-Mai if they really didn't want to go with the winning name which would have been a nice thing to do as the little girl sadly passed away the other day.

I thin you are spinning a bitnthere mate. I suspect just as many pve folk ignore the polls as PvP . indeed let's be honest if it wasn't for a certain subsection demanding all players be forced into 1 big mode regardless then the whole debate would not be going on in the 1st place

Posted this on Reddit. While I get that it doesn't have as large a sampling, the result is more or less the same as here.

Reddit Version of PvP/PvE poll

It would appear that Reddit isn't that much different.

I am surprised from what I have read on this forum over the last year or more all the pvp and guildies use reddit as this forum is very anti both.

Will have to see if there is a reddit campaign to get people to vote pvp on that vote soon.

Not sure if you were around for the "guolds and player owned stations" poll. Iirc Ignoring the votes offered linking owned stations and guilds with no separate option part.

People were asking guild mates( on reddit I believe) to open forum accounts just to vote for guilds. Iirc a mod commented about zero day accounts that had voted but never posted .

PvP isn't really that big because the instancing is bad, and there are no incentives for it. No bonuses towards combat rank, and the fine for killing another player is a measly 5000 credits so there \n\nFrontier need to stop worrying about 'people selling credits' when 1 million is the highest in bounties, and Robigo exists leeeeel
