Think PVP in this game is a fading past time. I suspect if 'we' had our way PvP would be limited to a quarantined game mode, and PvP only private groups.

Oh God no, I don't think anyone really wants that. Maybe a few people. No, players just want some rules in the game, some semblance of fairness when it comes to PvP encounters. And by fairness I don't mean T9's should be able to take out FDL's, not that kind of fairness. No, by fair I mean the risk balance between griefers, player killer, pirates, and innocents must be changed. Drastically. Because the biggest problem with PvP right now in Elite is that the victims take all of the risks while the player killers assume no risk at all. There are no consequences or repercussions for outright murdering other players who are not wanted. THAT is what needs to be addressed and re-balanced, and until it does people will continue to leave open due to the rampant player killing for senseless reasons.

That said though, PvP should be in the main game and readily available, not sequestered away in a private mode only. But commanders who don't want to be murdered left and right should be able to avoid it most of the time, and outright murdering of unwanted players should really be a rare thing due to the laws and mechanics of the game. Note that I am not talking about pirating, the stealing of player cargo is an entirely separate thing from player killing, and pirates should be able to interdict players and steal cargo without having to destroy their victims. Ideally the pirates would not WANT (nor have to) to destroy the victim simply because they want to avoid the harsh murder penalties that the game galaxy should enforce.

very very well put.

if people want to play the role of murderer/pirate/terrorist that doesn't come with luxuries and a hero's welcome, at least not everywhere. it makes no sense that many of these people are the richest in the game - but they're the most willing to play the mechanics without a care to the reality of the galaxy.

Jut dropping Corpsealot's video on PvP, as it represents my opinion well.
Elite IS NOT A PVP GAME.. it is PvE at the core, with the possibility to engage players.
Pure PVP children will always be unhappy, because they miss out on 95% of the game.

Do those exist? Even SDC has a big group of people that have done their fair share of trading and exploring. Seems to me we're experiencing more of the game than those that limit themselves to the dull behavior of the AI.

While I love PvP, it is an extremely rare occurrence. 99.9% of the enemies I run into are NPCs. Focusing on bettering the AI and actually making them a challenge is extremely important, in my opinion.

I feel sorry for all the idiots who imagine the question is so polarised it has to be us or them; take the blinkers off.

Most pvp'ers also take part in pve, even if its only a means to an end grinding credits to sustain pvp, or like me, people who actually enjoy many aspects of the game as mood or available time dictate. Further, there are also a great many who say they are pve only, not realising they are by definition taking part in pvp if they take part in activities such as power play where they are attempting to undo or offset the efforts of opposing players.

Well, finally managed to get around some errors and get beta installed. Figured "what the hell, it's beta, I'll play in open." Hadn't played in a while so forgot where I'd left my python, found it sitting on a planet in the Orrerre system. Had a look at the map and figured I'd go to Wyrd to check out the engineers. Some player tried to interdict me just as I approached Wyrd A2 so I just flew into the planet and let the orbital cruise thing break the interdiction... no problem... but the base I needed was on the other side of the planet so I climbed and supercruised again to fly round the planet. While doing this I saw a USS and it came up with something about "weapons fire detected" on it.. was just trying to read it when who should appear but that same player. OK whatever... of course he's in a Fed Corvette vs my Python so I didn't stand a chance, so I let him blow me and appeared back at the station in Orrerre again... and THAT'S why I changed to solo for the beta. It was just a senseless attack for no reason... he was obviously hanging out at Wyrd coz that's where an engineer is so he knew players would go there, there was no piracy demand and no challenge (even if I'd bothered trying to fight back), I wasn't wanted, and I wasn't carrying any cargo... it was just a kill for lulz because I was a hollow square and because it didn't cause the attacker any grief. Sure it's beta and I don't care, but it's a perfect example of why the whole pve vs pvp thing is still an issue, and of why pvpers can't find targets.

Who is Sandro?

One of the main devs.

I thought wyrd had a CG on at the moment. We also into phase 2 - which is designed for people to actually shoot each other to take on the frankly impossible task of balancing the effects of the weapons. I think the next phase is even more so.

Alas the Sidewinder I am in really is not up to the task of phase 2, so I have dropped out of the beta and will rely on others to do the balancing.

Yeah all true, sure.... regardless. Just disappointing that the first thing that happens is getting seal clubbed. Remember this is a guy who 'dicted me TWICE and had plenty of time to look at his scanners and see I didn't have a single engineer modified ANYTHING.

Oh and the CG is in the Wyrd system, but at a different planet.

Hmm, okay.. that helps a lot.. got any source, referenc, link?
I can tell you things from memory, would that convince you? I think not.
I could say that I remember talking with God, and it would not be sufficient evidence for any of you
to think that God is real, you see? ;) just exaggerating here of course, but you get the idea, I hope

Please be so kind to elaborate.

Had to go back and see what you were referring to. Don't worry about Gluttony.. he's a rabid PvPer and a self-confessed troll and won't accept any evidence, regardless how overwhelming, that ED is anything but a PvP fest. Despite his assertion the most Sandro's ever said on the topic is that PvP is a part of the game.

*Sneezes*

Oh quit teasing me.

I'm the least "troll-like" individual on this forum that argues through eloquent reasoning and logic and I don't think ED is anything but a PvP fest >_>

Maybe ask kindly genuinely instead of being sarcastic next time?

Player versus player conflict is integral to the game, as is player versus environment (and cooperative game play as well).

I don't find much use in arguments suggesting burning aspect one in favour of the other. However, I'm always interested in suggestions to improve the game for any particular group.

Your eloquence and even intelligence is not in question. I merely referred YOUR statement to me some months ago in which you described yourself as an "uber troll" or something along those lines.

What o.o?

I don't recall such a thing whatsoever .-.

Please provide a reference.

Lol.. you REALLY think I'm gonna dig through every spat you and I have had over the last six months to find some obscure reference? Nope, take my word for it. :)

I really don't think I would say anything like that so I don't think it happened, plus if you want to make accusations like that, it's more effective if you have visible evidence .-.
