Patch Notes Update 1.6 and The Engineers (2.1) update incoming

Noooo, spent 2 hours and most of what was left of my download quota updating, and then get a network error and something about a response stream. Too much network traffic I guess?
Looks like I wont be playing 2.1 today :(

Eh, a problem with a major version upgrade to a network application that can be resolved in less than a couple of hours is actually pretty small. Big problems with such an upgrade can take several hours to fix.

In my industry, we typically pad our estimates of downtime for major rollouts by 10 to 20% to account for the unexpected. But I guess it's hard to do that in an industry where the customers so frequently have no understanding of the degree of work involved in such operations and scream about every moment of scheduled downtime.

Seems reasonable to expect large, high-traffic network game server software to be similar in that regard

Game devs ask for set of logs, and then gamers just whine and post the same thing is broken without more context.

Just want to add, I'm not whining at FD nor do I hold them at fault for any network issues I'm experiencing. I think they are doing a fantastic job.
I'm just super keen to dig into the update and the slowdown is prolonging that. That's all.

The first 24 hours is always, and is always going to be a bit spotty. Heavy server load and little doubt, there will be stability patches along. Stay strong Commander

Just a heads up if someone dont know, if you are a beta owner, do not patch the game via the Steam, instead just launch the game launcher and it will update from beta which is just few minutes of updating.

Got it done, and had 30min to play before work. Jumped into a high intensity combat zone in my Aspec vulture and lasted about 3 minutes with zero kills - twice haha. Love it!
I'm about 2mil poorer but had so much fun. So intense.

Hahahaha! That's the spirit!! But indeed 2.1 is the most polished release ever imho. And the stuff Mr. Braven was talking during yesterday's livestream??? Modular variety of the spacestations to come (with multiple letterbox slots), more than one alien races, volcanic and other kind of landable planets pretty soon (very interesting ideas about scoopable gas giants, where we should be able to dive in the gas "holes" to scoop heavier gases) and new ships (Mr. Braben was shown those already by its team), its all just "WHOOOOOOOOAAAAA!!!! Best game of this century!!!!!!!!!" :D :D I'm feeling 16 yo again! :) FRONTIER is one amazing developer!! They're pure magicians!!!

...and all of the devs team were so relaxed during the stream. It's so awesome they're fully aware they're true world-wide groundbreaking team!!! I'd hug everyone of them multiple times for that and many more!! :) :) :)

Hey Frontier guys, the Patch note that reads "- Provide a graphics option to adjust UI scale in VR with a maximum and default of 0.7 for Vive and 1.0 for Oculus" is incorrect as this is still not in the options menu. Can you please remove it from the OP so as not to get Vive user's hopes up?

Just going to quote this every few pages until they realize the mistake and remove the patch note from the changelog. I don't want other vive users to get their hopes up :(

+1 Same here, but I jumped into a low intensity zone in my tricked-out Python (in Solo), lasted less than a minute, was jumped by 5 ships as soon as I activated my weapons and targeted an eagle, never got a shot off as I saw my (double boosted) shields boil off in seconds. Tried to boost away but they disabled my thrusters and left me dead in space. Another 20 seconds and my (reinforced) hull was gone. Kerpow!
No more easy combat now, so no more combat zones for me I guess. Shame.
Back to trading and I found some pretty lucrative work and regained 1M in a couple of trips, which helped offset the 2.7M loss a bit.
A brief interdiction I evaded easily in a few seconds, much quicker than previously.
So all in all a substantial re-balance, but then we guessed that from the length of the patch notes!
Re-learning everything will keep me busy for a while I guess. :)

Not a big problem, you (probably) won't have to DL all that stuff again. Had the same issue yesterday until a friendly soul pointed me to here.

Seems the NPC's are on steroids now. And they definetely had had a crash pilot course. I used to go Bounty hunting for a couple of mil at a time with no or Little damage. Now I turn ytail after a sinle engagement with an asp for repairs and hardly got the reward. It seems to me they went from one ditch to the other, missing the middle of the road.

Frontier - I need a new jaw. It fell off somewhere flying around looking at these new awesome planet surfaces!

Stunning update, good luck with the wrinkles :) well worth the wait

I heard that the passengers will be in 2.2

:)

You heard it well Patrick ;) and a bunch of new ships like Beluga and Dolphin as well. Michael said that ships will coming in relation to gameplay. So... Big hype ;)

And a some ideas go through my mind related to passengers gameplay mechanics :

Prisoners convoys : let's imagine a mission to bring an evil pirate and his crew to a trial. we can expect a multi stage mission (convoy, ambush,etc,..) > special cargo hold > cells ---> ( a new outfitting option)
Humanitarian missions
Medical assistance mission
