It's perfectly ok - you have nothing to worry about.

Those who have an "advantage" by being able to grind out engineer mods for hours are absolutely free to do so. It's all part of the game - and there are many juicy things to be found there.

However, those who spend their most precious resource of all attempting to perfect space ships in a space ship game may want to look outside once in a while. There's nothing wrong with it of course, I do it too. But there is a point when I can simply say "Sod it" and dump the game and take the GF out for dinner on the motorbike.

What confuses me is the mindset of some people who will actually say "Dump the GF and motorbike - git gud at the game!"

I've got a few motorbikes, and a sports car, but no girlfriend. I've tried, but my wife won't let me date anymore. I have a few psychological issues that prevent me from sleeping much, so I have time to grind out a bit.

There is no shame in truth.

Clear save, start from the beginning, and take what you have learned and apply it.

No. Buy an eagle and go do combat. By the time you've rebought 100 eagles, you will have to have improved your combat skills. If that doesn't work, then reset.

I can kill Pythons pretty fast, in my vulture, if they don't have shields its goodbye fast. You need military hull or one of the enhanced hulls for the Python.
look at the video again.

What is with people with high forums ratings being insufferable/having terrible opinions?

Let's do it like this: How would you deal with a Cobra that your guns cannot hit, which can fly circles around you in a literal sense, whose shields refresh to maximum constantly after those few hits your Parkinsons-gripped guns are able to land, and whose guns drain your shields like they aren't even there? This Cobra is performing far beyond the level of any normal Cobra because it spawned with RNG's blessing and got a full suite of engineer modules. What would your strategy be for this? I wasn't able to develop one, because it's rather like being attacked with a jackhammer by a ghost.

If the video you posted is anything to go by, your strategy is "spam multicannons at it until it dies and hope my shields hold", which doesn't really work for a Clipper.

Ok. First off, you're flying a Clipper. You compensate for the notoriously terrible weapon convergence of the clipper by using gimbaled weapons. Prior to the update NPCs were pretty rubbish about knowing when to pop chaff so you got away with it. Post-2.1, not so much. In the case of taking on a Cobra you are faced with an opponent that is faster and more agile than you are. Particularly with the improvements in NPC pip management, this means it will be VASTLY more difficult post-2.1 for you to keep the engagement at the extended ranges where the Clipper's hardpoint convergence foibles are less of an issue. This makes chaff a VERY potent defense against you.

1: Pick a base hull with decent hardpoint convergence forward. This probably isn't going to be a clipper.
2: Fit it with mostly fixed weapons. Post-2.1 a loadout that relies heavily on gimbals or turrets is MUCH less effective.
3: Get used to keeping FIXED weapons on a small fast target, using every trick in the book - FAoff, lateral thrusters to modify your turn radius etc.

Then go out and be amazed at how different your experience of wrecking NPC Cobras has become. Just stay clear of the Elite ones at first.

All that said, as someone who flies a vulture exclusively, and has for almost a year, slowly making my way toward an FDL will probably wait until I get used to the new meta. A Vulture with a beam and a multi can make fairly short work of a python. Especially if you're very close and aiming for the power plant.

The Cobra does not have enough slots to support the amount of chaff he popped, the amount of SCBs he used, his cargo scanner + cargo rack and a heat sink launcher which again he would certainly have needed to keep his laser spam from melting him.

You're speculating on the loadout of a ship, and expecting us to believe your obvious exaggerations, without any evidence to back up your claim. Consider your claims dismissed.

And, NO, "must have" and "couldn't have" are not a solid foundation for an argument.

What can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence. ~ Christopher Hitchens

I plan on it next time I run into one of these guys. I can't exactly go back in time and do it now. Unless you plan to tell me how easy it is to go back in time and I'm incompetent for not being able to.

GOOD! Nobody expects you to go back in time, just provide evidence in the future.

Also, videos of heavily armed corvettes killing smaller ships are probably out of bands to be included in the discussion.. but hey, if the AI is easy in a combat corvette that is expected.

People saying AI is still easy needs to post a video of a medium ship killing a modded big ship, otherwise it is a bit unbalanced.

Less than a second.

For content, if the AI is staying, payouts need to go up drastically.

Not that fast, sure, but pretty fast. I've managed to take a python from full shields to dead in the water in... maybe 40-50 seconds. Not long after the reactor breached and dead python.

You do know - that is completely Endist? How would you feel if you were shoved by 128 kilobytes of EBCDIC?

Whatever happened to parity? :D

I'm a mostly Harmless combat player/explorer. I get wrecked with non shiny upgrades everyone else seems to have. You can't just put a get good banner up. Otherwise you run into the same problem Eve did. "If you aren't already invested, go play somewhere else pleb" To all the people who basically say get good. Sorry, I like to have fun, I was having fun. More testing is required, for myself. On top of that, there are plenty of people in the game, who just don't have the time in the day to sit and become Elite Pilots who can dodge everything. Real life comes first, and getting good at this rate, means RL becomes a greater priority.

I remember reading "Maybe this game isn't for you" in previous replies or threads, simply because someone is more of a combat novice. That's literally an elitist mentality, that I hate communities rallying around. There are those specced for combat, and those specced for mining etc. This also includes skill. That's my 2C.

There are plenty of people willing to help new players. But when people that have played the game for a year or more start crying that it's hard, not because the AI is much harder, but because they expect it to be easy, that's when people get vitriolic and post "Get Good" instead of a thought out post. People tire or explaining the same notion of "Practice Makes perfect" to hundreds of thousands of people every single update, and have their help refused, and the complaining continue.

Regardless of the AI tweaks, it's also pretty jarring that as usual the NPCs have unlimited funding and opportunity for all the toys they want as well.

"Oh Boy, Engineers is out! I can't wait to work hard and long and if I'm lucky, get a single upgrade even approaching the type of mods I wanted-hey what's that?"

I cant understand why people who put effort into improving themselves should feel bad for those that have no interest in doing the same.

I have no idea either. Play the game. Enjoy the game. Hate the game. Whatever - just don't let game X affect you* so much that you make a complete fool of yourself on the internet. It's just a game! Peeps will enjoy it, other peeps will hate it, other peeps will love stirring up nonsense for the lulz. That is how it has worked for basically ever.

*not You of course.

On that note, my name in game is the same as my name on the forum. Hit me up, I'd be willing to coach you.

It's definitely not as simple as "get good"

Prior to the update, you were starting to become used to a set of tactics and had begun to develop a set of subconscious expectations of your weapon effectiveness. You similarly had begun to develop these expectations of NPC flight skills and their weapon effectiveness.

Post-update this has changed. You need to throw out your tactical thinking and your expectations of NPC skills at a given rank. Fortunately, at your stated combat rank you're in a better position than those of us who have fought enough NPCs that those subconscious responses are trained in a lot deeper. It's not a "get good" situation, it's just a matter of recognizing the change and adapting to it. And staying away from high ranked NPCs until you have.
