[Distant Worlds] Prospecting Central

Forgive me if thus is answered, I have not read the whole thread.

I understand there will be new mats in 2.1
Will they be prospectable like the others?, and if so is the 3-2-1 rule affected?
If planets are reloaded with the new mats, and 3-2-1 still holds, will not this whole project be rendered obsolete?

Apologies also if these are dumb questions.

The prospectors worried about this for the first two weeks of beta, but the same elements are now on the same planets that they were in 2.0. The 3/2/1 rule holds, but only if you use the old groups when counting. The new 'mats' seem to be mechanical parts and salvage from various places/things, not elements.

But didn't FD say that they were eliminating some of the materials so it wouldn't be so difficult to acquire for use with the Engineers?

Those appear to be manufactured mats. Planetary elements have been a-ok so far! We've done quite a bit of testing and all is well.

Bumping this because it is more relevant than ever.

Why thank you! The best part is that the same rules still apply in 2.1 for elemental mats. One of these days I'll give the OP a good brush up. Still in the process of testing stuff (so far it's 100% good).

"Hey Nex, you enginnering?"

Nope, shooting rocks :D

except that now materials are also dropped while minning, no only prospecting planetary surfaces.

Indeed. Don't know anything about mining unfortunately. That just might be our next endeavour. I'll bring it up with the team!

I'm checking with people that found it. ice rings for sure, the rest I just asked.

We're only a few, but we have the minds and determination to figure everything out. We also have the infrastructure to use mining data with our analysis methods.

There's science to do!

Come join us in Discord! I've already sparked interest. Once I'm done prospecting this place it's mining time :D

PS - I can't generate invites...I'll post again once I get an admin to get one...

I might join later, I'm outside now, just furiously looking for clues:

later on when I bring my ship back home I'll give it a try for the 3,2,1 rule, and also check normal rock/metal asteroids. we I'll get it!

Thanks for all the replies everyone :)

It *looks* like 1.6 owners get access to all levels of synthesis materials through mining/BB missions. This unlocks some cool stuff e.g. railgun ammo with +30% damage :)

I found materials in ice rings, metallic and rocky rings. When you shoot a prospector limpet at an asteroid the material level of the asteroid is now shown (low/medium/high?). Target medium/high level asteroids for the rare materials.

so, with the inclusion of the fifth grade I can foresee a lot of science going on. Apparently metal rings drop mostly common/very common mats.

I've also noticed a change in material concentration now. I spent some time in the big crater around markut's base in the khun system, and found an extremely high quantity of iron, something around 85% of the 200 drops I got. same effect in other planets, so I guess the concentration is a factor to consider now as well.

Don't know if this is discussed here?
The VC ,C ,R ,VR concept is obsolete as there are now 5 classes of element with 5 in each class?

So Y is only class 4, and As/Zr are class 3 for example.

so far, what I have found..

- you get more materials minning than on the srv, that is for sure.
- Collecting them is slower (unless you have a collector).
- haven't found any high material content in normal mining rings (non pristine)
- medium didn't give me more materials than low.
- with a prospecting limpet you can mine an asteroid longer but haven't noticed an increase in material drops.
- even low material content asteroids drop very rare materials.
- if there is a relation between the asteroid mineral composition and the materials it is a very confusing one.
- in a single ring:ce: germanium, carbon, molibdenum, arsenic, cadmium, sulphur, zinc, tin, nickel, iron, phosphorus, chromium
- had to drop 200 nickel in a row, seem to be the key material for this ring.
- on the srv you get better chance of getting the material you want based on the resource type, in asteroids all look the same, even prospecting limpets don't help yet.

another ring tomorrow and I'll be able to compare

After yesterday's marathon session of mining (like 12 hours) I was fairly certain only grade 1 and grade 2 materials can drop there. Guess my surprise when today I went and collected a piece of cadmium. But only once.

Interesting.
I have mined quite a bit in a pristine metallic and only got the five class one mats out - nothing better.

maybe this:- if there is a relation between the asteroid mineral composition and the materials it is a very confusing one.

I've found water only asteroids dropped carbon and/or sulphur in this ring, also some other regular patterns but nothing conclusive yet.

Also noticed an increase in drops when the mineral has low %, again, nothing conclusive.

my current hypothesis is that composition of the asteroid maybe involved in the materials it drops in the ring (may be different in other rings), if not, at least the materials and mineral using the same seed, but I'd need more info.
