A Guide to Minor Factions and the Background Sim

bug is reported

all news are full of ........ we are expanding , but not a word where , i hoped they would fix this
:(

Unlike the previous version, they only tell you where they have expanded to after the expansion is complete.

Anyone been reading other local news? Even with the current date it always seems to be weeks out of date or even referring to other systems.

question gentlemen

we are in expansion after 5 days of pending expansion , now we have to search where we expanded to ?

the really should tell us

On the release day livestream Dav said that an expansion will now happen at the end of the active expansion state, not at the beginning how it was before. You may need to wait a few more days.

i am seeing several missions on our board since our state of expansion "to assist expansion" into varius systems
example

encrypted data storage salvage for expansion effort ( into several different systems )

anyone know what this is about ?

ah just normal missions, text changes for states and station economy
sounds like your expansion is still active you haven't expanded yet, in 2.1 expansion happens at the end of the state and not at the start
edit: just checked your system you are still in expansion, you need to wait till it finishes ;)

The Brazilian League of Pilots, after a 5 day expansion active, expanded to a Hyades Sector system, one of these crappy systems with NO orbital stations, only planetary stations.

The strage thing is the expansion doesnt seem to have ocurred from our system with most influence. In fact today, there are 5 systems with influence higher than the system we expanded from.

BUT, the system we expanded from, was the system with higher influence the day the expansion got pending (back in 10/05/2016).
That's normal. The system where you get more than 75% influence to make expansion go pending locks in the expansion source. Doesn't matter what the influence values are when the expansion goes active.

state of expansion is 3 days i believe ?
so we will wait another 3 days :)

It would appear the old farts in the Coffin Dodgers will beat the WT's in having a 2nd system.. not that there is any type of competition you understand....

'make way.. old person needs the toilet'

No Szylask, I followed 6 Blop's expansions before that, we always have at least 4 systems above 80% influence, but we always expanded from the system with the biggest influence in the day expansion state got active.

Today, we expand from a system with influence 77%, but we had 4 systems today with influences above 80%, one of then with 92% influence, but the expansion wasnt from there.

On the other way, this system we expanded today (77%) was our system with the biggest influence 3 weeks ago(around 90%) when the expansion got pending.

You just said what Szyslak said.

How can you tell which system the expansion is from if your faction is spread across several systems that are all above the expansion threshold?

An open question: is there any gain of influence for a faction that has retreated? (perhaps the opposite of a loss of influence for a faction that has expanded)

Distance. If, for example, the target is <20ly from one system, but >20ly from another, you can infer (provided the BGS follows the rules the devs have made explicit) that the expansion came from the system within the stated expansion radius. I would emphasise that this is provided the BGS follows the rules the devs have stated explicitly. Pre 2.1, many groups saw expansions over 20ly, which seems to clash with the devs' statements.

Not that I know of. One interesting point I've seen is that factions in retreat spawn missions that specifically refer to economic difficulties, so I would suspect it to be similar to a bust state while the state is active.

sirius corporation is currently in investment phase so well wroth checking out its the only minor faction i think atm in said state

Our experience is as follows:

28.05.16 expansion

Since that date in the Daily News column there have been articles stating how we are in a state of expansion and from that date these articles get more detailed.

29.05.16 our influence started to drop and since that date it has steadily declined and on the 1.06.16 we saw a 4% drop.

My personal thoughts are that it was so easy to make assumptions in an attempt to try and explain this drop in influence but when all logical explanations get exhausted, I would suggest that the loss of influence is purely down to the game mechanics.

01.06.16 we got 'Pending Boom'

I am not unduly concerned about this pending state but it would be nice to get out of expansion and to crack on with finding our new system.

On a personal note we may well be content with what we have once we get this next system. As a minor faction we have only been playing for five weeks and here we are waiting to move into our next system.

Teamwork, teamwork and more teamwork is our secret, PLUS getting advice from this top thread. Hopefully we might now be able to pass on our experiences.

Best wishes one and all

while clicking through the missions of a system in war yesterday, i read the flavour text of a minor faction i war, if no missions are available. differently to the text, if a minor station has no market ("you can shoot ships of others"), it was saying, that you can a) attack ships of the faction you are in war with and b) help by trading to the markets.

i'm wondering, whether thi is a bug, or if trading counts now in war, too - or if special trading counts in wartimes.

can you put up a screenshot of such missions? the ones i see look only like procedurally generated; e.g. "we need data delivered/salvage, RNG picks system xxx ly away".

expansion state missions rely on government type ( some encrypted data storage salvage, experimental chemicals, ive seen beer and small and large data caches and black boxes) so theres a wide mix.
