about to lose 68 hours of gameplay

FDev took extra month to ensure high quality release, that we all came to expect. They failed horribly, which is what we expect, yet the manner in which they actually do it always is a surprise.

It's a bit like the end of ghost busters: CHOOSE YOUR DOOOOOM

Submittign to interdictions is the cause of many player's grief. If you get away from an NPC you hae submitted to, he will chase you into supercruise and probably interdict you again. This is the cause of many of the chain interdiction problems that players have. But if you fight an interdiction and lose, but then get away, the NPC is far less likely to chase you again.
It won't matter to a Cobra that it takes longer for the FSD to cool, as once you are out of range you are going to stay out of range.
The rest of your advice is all good.

I've never tried that, primarily because I've rarely let that would-be pirate get in position to interdict me again. It helps that I don't use to "70% at 7" maneuver to slow down at my destination. Mass braking maneuvers are faster by about a minute, help protect you from interdictions, and IMO are much more fun.

I lost 4 million today cause of my own stupidity. I was fighting against deadly FAS in my FDL at haz site. I was in wing with my son. FAS had 1 percent hull left when it turned towards me and I dropped the hull to 0% when it was about 1 km away. I was waiting for the blast and waiting and the FAS came at me flaming in fire. Guess what it didn't explode on the way but hit me cause I realized too late that it was going to hit me instead of blowing up. My hull went from 90 to 0 and boom. I didn't have shields on. So I guess others blow up sooner and others later  It took a few days of my play time. Now it feels that I am going to take that small fighter and follow the cops for a while.

ouche !
i feel your pain.... I always tend to target the power plant so half of the time they end up dead in the water with no thrusters or weapons. The pesky beggars can't ram you then.....
im going to try pimping up a little ship and see what fun can be had

Uh This comment will be buried in 9 pages, so shrugs but here goes:

I've thought a lot about what OP has said.
I too am a lousy combat pilot and a - well not filthy casual I guess, but a sprinter, you know, I can't go the distance.

But something that worked for me in a Cobra (and I do love the Cobra) was the rares run.
It's got lots of role play opportunities, and gets okay money and tours some interesting systems.

I know OP disapproves of third party tools, but I hope he won't disapprove of this old map.
It dates from the days before bookmarks.
Even before route plotting, when you had to pick each jump.
But the map still works. Don't forget to explore as you go.

Hope that helps.

I just can't imagin that back in The days someone wrote a letter to Rare Ltd "Dear developers, I really like your games Battletoads. But I'm Old and have job and wife and kids and I CAN'T beat this blody bike level, who you think I am IRL, motoracer?! Please, make this games easier, this little green toads are The only fun in my life"

OP, I can understand where you're coming from, and I can feel your pain, unfortunately, the way this game is built, I just don't think it will ever really cater to your style of gameplay. As an example, I have over 1000 hours already invested in this game, so 68 doesn't really sound like a whole lot to me. I get it that you don't get a lot of time to play and that's really shame, because Elite Dangerous is a great game, but it does require one thing to be really thoroughly enjoyed, and that's time. There are really many games, if not most, that give about 60-80 hours of gameplay, and that's it, but that's not the direction Frontier decided to go. I think they've really tapped into the demographic of people that want to live and inhabit a Galaxy permanently. I've heard of people with 4000+ hours invested in this game. This is what people like me do in their spare time, we don't watch much tv, don't play many other games, we spend our time in elite. I've lost 68 hours as well I'm sure, probably more if I think about it, that's kind of just how this game is made, it's kind of unforgiving. Don't feel like I'm trying to downplay your loss here either, 68 hours is worth more to you than it is to me, I have hours to spare. All I'm trying to say is that Elite is different than other games, it's punishing at times, I can remember when I first got a type-7, I destroyed it 5 days in a row, I was barely hanging on, I nearly threw my controller through the window, but that's why I love this game, it can instill real fear in a player, especially at the lower levels.

Don't quit OP, keep playing, you will get better, I promise. there's a certain point you reach when things get much much easier. Also the people at Frontier are really nice and they don't want to lose people like you so I bet if you petition them with a ticket they'd give you most of your credits back, seeing as how they just made the NPC's much harder and all.

No, they just stopped playing it.

Not really a winning strategy for a game with a ten year development plan but without ten years of funding in the bank.

That and no where in the 10 year plan did they say they would exclusively work on ED. They have other games in the pipeline now which means less time for ED.

So because of hopeless ppl FD should change there game to Hello Elite Kitty: Cuterous?

Either park your ship's eight very close to a sun/planet or circle and use the 15 second exit to menu.

So your solution to avoid interdictions 100% of the time is "quit the game."

Ok then. I suppose that is a solution that works with nearly any challenge in any game. ;)

Indeed - they happily went onto games that suited what they wanted better and lived happily.

Similarly other people who wanted a harder game probably said hey look - let's play that.

And that ladies and gentlemen is how we have millions of different games. There's a huge market for computer sports games - never liked them - there's a huge market for spreadsheety games - can't stand them - there's a huge number of tower defence and strategy games - they bore me - all the FPS shooters - CBA or full of tryhards spoiling the fun - rpgs mostly fetch quests.....

But no - according to these people every single game should be moulded to fit the maximum number of people by being totally "AVERAGE" and being for everybody otherwise it's a total and utter failure and should probably not have been attempted in the first place.

Wow I'm glad they don't run the place :(

If I ran the place there would be additional options. Specifically: Please select Difficulty: Beginner = Easy, Average = Medium (Pre 2.1), Ace Fighter Pilot = Ludicrous. Mass appeal of a game is much easier to implement than simply making a game too difficult for most.

I can see the sense in that but I'm not sure how easy it would be to implement such ideas in to an mmo

The difficulty would be applied to the AI, not the other players. I would also make beginner zones where the rewards would be consummate with the levels, but police reaction would be swift and deadly. But we digress. Have a great day.

Glad to know I'm not alone in this! I just started 2 weeks ago and was getting ready to quit because I can't seem to accomplish anything. Destroyed for no reason - no cargo, no bounty, not on a mission - several times. After 2.1/1.6, I didn't even have time to boost away! Interdicted - BOOM! - blown up in about 10 seconds. Hopefully the re-balance will actually help!

OP- if you're still reading this, please don't be discouraged by the 'you suk, git gud' crowd. They seem to have missed the part where you clearly stated that your 68 hours of play has taken you a year and a half to accrue and you have already reached your combat skill ceiling.

Nothing you can do about people projecting their insecurities onto others, or using their position of strength to bully those less able. I'm pretty sure you get the same attitude in sewing circles and flower arranging! :D (Not saying there's anything wrong with either, just that they probably have gobby gits too.)

As a temporary measure, you could try long range trading. The smuggling missions have been nerfed into the deck, but taking legitimate cargo from way out in the black back to the bubble is quite lucrative. Fehu is at war, avoid that, but the other long range destinations I've been to are still good. The advantage is that you get your rebuy back in a run or two, moving through mainly uninhabited systems. You can scan stars and systems en route to earn a little extra credit, drop off at just two or three destinations and bug out again without taking too many risks. Follow Boomers advice to avoid interdictions and you should have a cash safety net in an evening's play. Just pick the best long range trade missions when you're out there. Look for stations/systems you're likely to be friendly with. If your game time has been mainly Federal, go to a Federal system right on the edge of human space. You can even do it in a Sidey while your Cobra is in safe stowage- just remember to fit a fuel scoop! ;)

@OP

My brother has been playing for a year.

He has also lost practically everything and cannot afford to fly again because if he loses another ship he will be back in a sidewinder. And he lost it in one evening's play.

I think its time for me to take a couple of months break, since I don't want to lose what I've worked for during the past year. And its not a Cobra, its an Anaconda and a Python.

The real solution to things like this is not to tell the person they are wrong, they aren't ... but (you knew a "but" was coming) ... There is something in how you play Elite Dangerous. So (in my opinion) the best advice I can give is not to give up and rage quit, but to get talking with people. Go onto Lave Radio's teamspeak (teamspeak.laveradio.com) or join the Elite Dangerous Facebook group (there are two big ones) or get onto the Lave Radio Skype or Discord groups, OR the same things but for any of the many other groups in the Elite Dangerous community.

There are people out there who will gladly help you tweak how you play. You'd be amazed at the difference a few little changes can make. Unfortunately, Elite is one of those games with a tough learning curve.
