Just some data since latest patch:

4 interdictions:
3x master, 1x elite.

ships: dropship, FDL, FAS.

my ship: Anaconda.
my combat rank: harmless.
my trade rank: elite.

my cargo: limpets and 1t samararium.

no pp, no missions. Get to be in peace most of the time, the interdictions are now quite rare. Gotta wonder @ the combat rank of those pirates though. I m baffled as to the scaling being used by this game.

If I were a pirate I'd totally go after an Elite Trader with a Harmless combat rank!

In my view, the combat competancy of the AI should scale with the combat rank of the AI itself - and nothing else.

How often the top AI takes an interest in you is determined by you actions and you don't have to worry about any dangerous ships if you don't put yourself in their way!

If you choose to take missions that meet heavy opposition, or annoy someone dangerous, or frequent dodgy neighbourhoods with a hold full of valuables, That's your prerogative.

This needs to be explained in the documentation supplied with the game, though, and possibly alluded to in the mission briefing. I think a lot of people like to act like a space badass, and don't understand that this has consequences.

Don't try to run before you can walk, and you'll be fine.

To some extent this is already done with missions as not only does it give the mission rank but along side it states something along the lines of higher rank missions carry greater risk

The fact people choose to ignore what is written and just look at $$$$ signs is their fault.

What we sometimes have now is poorly equipped and trained players doing such missions then blaming the game. Its like playing Doom on Nightmare or ultra violence levels and complaining you cant complete the levels.
A more modern example is Overwatch which has had lots of people complaining that Bastion was overpowered, and taking to twitter and forums to vent their rage. Blizzard to their credit ignored the complaints and told people to learn to play the game properly. Now that people are doing this they can see that it was them that was rubbish through lack of tactical decision making. As a result the game is better for it as people now know they need to think about how to play the game rather than just engage in mindless pew pew.

and if you have anything in your hold at all, and are in a safe system, expect to be interdicted regularly by master and dangerous npcs - no matter what the value or lack of of your cargo. that sounds like you are advising dont trade or expect to die a lot.

Newest AI seems ok, does seem a little dumber but my testing is somewhat limited as I seem to only be being pursued by Experts and above - as a Novice combat pilot it still seems the matchmaking is a bit wierd.

I'm also STILL getting pirate interdictions like I'm on a mission "So the rumours are true?" and "There's that big tasty haul I was looking for" sort of openers with no apparent reason whatsoever. I don't really mind if the game wants to throw some combat at me, but at least make it make some vague sense - "Right - you'll do. Come here." would have made much more sense.

Seeing some other people's posts I'm getting increasingly wierded out by the constant stream of high ranked pilots I'm meeting - surely it should be more of a range of skills? I've think I've only had one interdiction/attack/fight with a Competent and everything else is higher.
its REAL simple. elite was never a pure combat game. in 84 you had to trade to earn upgrades. now you cant. if you think the devs can keep the game going catering for the few pure combateers who already have billions and can afford rebuys so every ship no matter its size is disposable then thats nice for you rich guy. personally i think they need people able to start playing now. but lets not do the whole you are casual this is a pros game please.

will just add games are supposed to be enjoyable not aa form of masochism, and i have no time for the people thinking that they are proving how big their peepee is when in fact they are proclaiming they are compensating by boasting of their ability...
er wot?

I've not lost a ship since my first week..... *touch wood*

Ha, yeah, its getting a bit odd here again.

"I am being killed all the time. Its not my fault, I am Normal, but the game is not Fun. If you think this is fun, you are Hardcore Billionaire with Small      ."

Seriously, sometimes it seems the ability to play ED is somewhat correlated with the ability to form coherent thoughts based on logic and common sense. :p

you gotta remember there are a lot of young'uns and folk with something to prove that play games - have a look at the eve online videos with the voice chat open - you gotta filter them out despite them being quite shouty and there's a vast userbase of (mostly) lovely people who'll help you to your feet anytime

time to listen to master yoda and learn to let go of the hate :D

The AI is about right to my likes,
i got to work for my illicit trade,
i get harassed by hunters.

The AI finally does fly the ship and tries to maneuver,
traders are way too fighty when quickly overtaken and outgunned,
interdictions of spawning hunters are annoying to the point where you have to kill
or disable the ship completely before carrying on.

And so the nerfing of the AI continues, and will continue until it's 2.0 again. Well hell, according to some here it's already 2.0 now. Thank you Frontier, the 50% who voted "just right" and "too easy" in the first poll don't count I guess. First you took away any reason for me to get engineer mods (why have an even greater advantage over the AI who now don't have access to such weapons?), now you're lobotomizing the AI. You said you wouldn't do it, yet here you are doing it. And guess what, they're still complaining. And they will complain until they're all back to being Luke Skywalker or Hans Solo.

Can I ask a quick question.

Who has changed their ship since 2.1

I ask this because I was getting owned in my combat Python and felt it was less manoeuvrable to cope with the AI's increased abilities.

So I have reverted to a Vulture and I have had 0 issues since I did....

So for those of us who prefer combat and mixing it up with the wanted AI, is this the answer to some of us?

This of course is not help to truckers, miners, explorers or cargo mission runners....

Considering the roughly +25% jump range tier 5 FSD mod, I think combat capable exploration ships might become more popular. Also, jump range isn't actually all that vital to exploration, unless you're trying to get to some hard to reach place quickly.

This is the exploration Vulture setup I've been using for over half a year, occasionally going potato farming on the side. → https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=175238&page=3&p=2828837&viewfull=1#post2828837 For whatever reason, a lot of people seem to dismiss it as not being an optimal setup, but it has served me very well, even if some things are cut off from me like participating in Distant Worlds.

People complaining that their stripped down ships aren't very viable against interdicting NPCs have their priorities misplaced, as I see it...

1) Advance in the game through any legitimate means possible that you care for

2) Survive as though your life depended on it

3) Once you've secured your position – not really mattering if you see the rebuy screen dozens of times in a row, enjoy the freedom of choice playing however you want can provide

people dismiss general purpose or dual purpose because they are not pure thus in their opinion will not survive. my asp explorer is modified a bit more but its still general purpose. and i still get advised to pick one thing and make the config for that. but i dont want to dump the disco and detail scanner for shield boosters and be pure trader and flee or avoid being interdicted. nor do i want to become pure combat and bounty hunter and trade in for a pure combat ship and build. i really do think the game should cater for the ship types it has - just because its called asp explorer doesnt mean its only supposed to be configured to explore. if we take that argument to its conclusion you could argue the asp HAS to only be configured for combat because its a variant of the military asp mk ii

Holy crap.AA masochism, big peepies and boasting.
waaaaauuuuuw.
I shouldve added a bunch of emojies
Shouldve worded it more sympathatic.

goodday sir welcome to my blocklist

Had a blast last night. I reset the save game for 2.1. Last night I got a viper, went to a low res site and cleaned up... Ran out of fuel on the way to collect the bounties, that's been the only 'bad' thing to happen in game.

My frustration towards certain screen layouts though is getting close to needing a rant thread...
