COD in space will only open the genre to more people, being it Star Citizen or Elite or NoMan'Sky. There is plenty of money to buy them all as the monthly millions backed showcased.
Making fun of people that like to do space-trucking, space-piloting civils across the galaxy is cool and all , but not everyone takes joy from fighting, pirating and grieving other peoples game.
There are people that still like to be human in-games, as strange as that sounds. Farmers, Truckers, Doctors, Scientists whatever, having the option is better than not having.

Star Citizen catered to about 10% of its possible buyers, there's plenty of money to be made from the casuals. The Hollywood cast alone will get plenty of coverage and for sure bring lot's of players for the curiosity alone. The title "Biggest Crowdfunding Game Ever" will ofc bring more headlines and more curious folks.

But the proof is in the pudding, as they say. Being a really good game will bring the most players/millions, so here's that for the real motivation to CIG peepz.

Well we've had lot's of sneak-peeks about the next locations with Nyx, Hurston & Crusader. Those have been in development and they discussed about how they will use handcrafted stuff joined with PG planets to avoid the blandness and repetitiveness.

We already saw them landing on a planet and going inside a station with great detailed graphics.

And a avatar walking on a PG planet:

Getting closer and closer to that Constelation trailer that made so many wallets cry. :D
I am so singularly unimpressed that I can't even read to the end of the thread without starting to comment.

I'm not interested in pre-rendered sequences. I can show you the trailer for the new Independence Day and tell you that's what my game's going to be like - doesn't make it so.

Planetary surface does look more real than NMS's one tho ;) it's something

*Ahem* And again, your theory-crafting ways are getting in the way of the reality that CiG currently find themselves in.

NONE of the things you mentioned like farming, doctor(?), trucking etc, none of those features, although given mention by the likes of Roberts, Lesnick and Co, have come even *close* to implementation yet. Heck, they haven't *explained* yet how it's all going to work, how the servers are going to handle the workload, how the economy of each profession will be played out across the 100+ (TM) star systems that CiG want to create and populate.

As for your, frankly, bizarre claim that Star Citizen is catering to just "10% of its possible buyers", can you verify this? Can you accurately predict that, once (and IF) SC is released in full, that a sudden flood of new players will suddenly see it and take up the game? Because to be honest, just having a "Hollywood cast" in a game ISN'T going to guarantee customers. Just look at that game with Ellen Page and William Defoe.... That was being hyped up with much fanfare as a new paradigm shift in story-based gameplay, with all sorts of innovative new features that would wow the gamer. Instead, what we got was a sub-standard, poorly thought out, poorly realised title that hardly played like a "game" at all.... And it tanked.

Are you actually that stupid?

If they could actually do that on someone's computer they would have released the demo that does it so we could all try it.

Where is that demo?

It's not 3dstudio pre-rendered, it's cryengine prerendered at a frame a second from hand crafted parts - please don't tell me you're that naive. That demo would utterly kill the majority of the criticisms in one swoop - but what we have is people coooing and aaaahing at a bloke wandering around for 15 minutes looking at hardpoints then a bunch of someone walking around with just (sorry) no bum whatsoever and terrible mocap....

I guess if you're a Believer then you can see the light. I see nothing past a small handful of outposts claiming to be space stations, people running around cos it's a right ball ache to get anywhere even at that minute stage and a couple of pre-made asteroid fields that could as well be a mountain from Crysis one. Give me a demo where I can fly down to just that one moon - give me a working mission tree - give me working character animations - anything in fact.... but it's just not there :(

Nah - see that's the problem. I should have had an email saying;

Sorry - the scope has changed your 2013/2014 date has been pushed back to 2017/who knows when - are we're changing the T&Cs so if you want out now is a good time to do it.

That didn't happen.
Of course not. Instead it was "now you buy new concept JPEGs"! And from there the game was doomed.

And the problem is with the majority of backers approved it argument is that there were a lot of backers/grey market traders with a vested interest in pushing things back as long as possible to keep the trades going and CIG had a vested interest in artificial scarcity/LTI and turning a blind eye to/actively encouraging the grey market on the QT because the grey market was the engine to keep a lot of the sales drives going.
Let me shorten that: The "majority of backers" don't have any interest in receiving a finished game. Because the majority of backers are not gamers, but speculators.

That is basically the essence, where this thread could be closed and removed from the Sci-Fi space games forum, because in the cold light of day Star Citizen is not a game, it's a financial product (an unregulated and possibly illegal one) disguised as a game. We have various parties including CIG and the majority of backers enjoying themselves making huge amounts money and pursuing their hobbies and some thirtythousand something poor gamers without refunds caught inbetween. That's it!

Now what is the biggest danger for such a scheme? When people start completely ignoring it, gamers and everyone else and simply forget that Star Citizens exists at all. That would be the "E.L.E." Why do you see the majority of backers going into every corner of the internet constantly distributing professionally produced propaganda (while there is no professionally produced game)? Because that is what shady financial schemes live off. Once people start to ignore it, it's over.

You're welcome.

Planetary landing will come this year don't worry. Sooner than everyone thinks.

Well, it was real time and not pre-rendered, but I don't see anything remarkable about that.

Dude, you're showing a video from LAST YEAR which was desperately hacked together to try and damage control the fact that Frontier had out-scooped the supposed "Masters of PR" at their own game, by getting the release of Horizons featured in conjunction with Star Wars: The Force Awakens!

And if you're so confident of seeing planetary landing occurring in SC *this year*, then why have not seen *anything* relating to that (or SQ42 for that matter) since?

*Edit* Let me just add btw, that it's interesting to see the sudden shift from "procedural generation is boring and lifeless!" to "we'll do procedural generation better than NMS and E:D!" that's come from the mouths of CiG and their supporters of the last couple of years. And yes, it was mentioned as a "stretch goal" in 2014, but the overwhelming response to it on the RSI forums when it was put to them was an overwhelming "meh" or, "I'd much rather travel through 100 immaculately hand-crafted systems and planets than have billions of empty, boring, lifeless balls of rock like in Elite: Dangerous, or wandering aimlessly with alien animals in No Man's Sky".

hehehehe

I am very welcome :D

Now is it just me or does that video of him playing it "live" look SIGNIFICANTLY different to the video you posted earlier claimed to be live "non-pre-rendered" game? Did you see the jumping polygons?

You've just proven my point fella. They show these incredible videos but what they actually have working is a fraction of it - it's just lies and a game years away still.

ps> actually the videos are all in that one video, you can just jump back and forth to see the vast difference between pre-rendering footage and real game. it's been in every single video they've released - full beautiful nebulous explosion effects... in game? usual 2d splats over 3d. lies.

Cool Machinima video called Bulkheads. Made entirely with Star Citizen assets taken from the game files:

Hmm, a video showcasing the talent of a couple of guys messing around with some Star Citizen assets and actually making what they had look BETTER than what CiG are able to do, without a single cent from backers.

Remind me, *how* does showing this video in anyway make CiG look GOOD?

*Edit* Oh and just so you know, please can you confirm that CiG have *definitely* told backers, the gaming press and anybody else, that planetary landings will be coming out this year? :)
