I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but when you scan a barnacle you get some scan data to sell under the "Transactions" tab.
I've been to the witch head double barnacle.
I've scanned one of the barnacles, but the second reports that its already scanned. So could this actually be the same barnacle? I think it's a 2 headed variety..

Also I note that once again, it's based on a planet with silicon.
Looks to me like they are genetically engineered silicon based lifeforms..designed to extract metals.....For WAR!.

I think this is true for all double barnacles.

In general, think that selling scan data is a bad idea. It is probably what is causing the setup of defenses around the barnacles.
I don't know if there is a game mechanic for this but if there is, un-scanned barnacles will stay undefended.

Is this true? All of the astros with barnacle life on them have silicon?

If anyone else is searching in Hind, add me VISION1776

I have been searching the T Taurus 2B for about 3 hours. Im going to stop here and search 2A tomorrow.

Had an interesting and frustrating evening on Merope 2A last night.

Cap ship is cool and super aggressive for a lone pilot and just made it out :)

Then interesting things started to happen. I had loads of crashes but i did get some VERY long range Wakes pop up. I was crusing around at coords of about 16.00:-166.00 when they were popping up. Facing the Cap ship/Barnie (which you can still see from that distance) at bearing of 113-115 deg on the HUD there were regular Wakes on my scanner at a range of 750km ish. I made it about 400km and they were still spawning and then I started to get the "Cap Ship Detected" thing again and crash to desktop and lockups (well i had been getting it all evening but thick and fast at this point) total pain! I think there might be something out there. If you fancy a look-see, go for it. I'm heading there later, when I have a chance to get back on.

Finally made it into the Witch Head Nebula after ripping out some armor and dumping some cargo, and this one is confirmed:

Will now land and check if my wave scanner only shows one of them.

I'm seeing the CALIFORNIA LC-V C2-10 B1 barnacle just fine on the wave scanner. A bit sad that it drops large quantities of Indite and Cryolite, though, with nary a Meta Alloy in sight. Is this behaviour new?

3h, nice! I barely finish one big crater in that time!

Amature! At a height between 1.5 and 3 you can cover a lot of ground. Those are the recommended heights to be in when looking down.

But I agree that it is not enough. I just did my part on that planet. I think 3 hours per planet is more than enough of my share.

We need better tools!!

could you point me to the post that says barnacles are visible at 3km please? the one that has a picture on it to demonstrate? can't trust your entropy!

I do have another question, UA related. What are the theories around the UA spinning while idle? it rotates veery slow counterclockwise, not that it is a random thing, if you hit the UA it will reorientate to Merope and start the spinning as well.

I'd like to have a discussion, not a random 'lets bruteforce this'. Cheers

Since 2.1 landed, the barnacles dropping meta-alloys have been bugged and just drop normal minerals. Don't know what's taking so long for the fix tbh... but you can go to Maia's surface port (forget it's name) and buy them. Don't expect profits from them though.

Nice.
