What do you think so far Karnath?
Stunning, one of the main reasons I packed my DK2 away was the awful washed out colours , herendous smearing all of which resulted from going direct mode. (I'll go more into this later)
From when you first open the package you feel you have purchased a quality bit of retail product, the presentation of the items in the box is excellent.
When removing the rift and sensor, unraveling the cables, they certainly feel more robust and a far superior quality to the DK2's also a lot longer.
I decided to go through the setup option again, although it did work as soon as I started oculus home, I had 2 firmware updates to do, one for the sensor and the remote.. Setup was easy the only issue I came across was the Xbox wireless controller set up, what a pig that was even though I'm using Windows 10 it wouldn't recognise it.. after some googling it turns in to be a common issue and I was missing a certain cab driver. Grabbed that and bingo controller working !!
Moving onto the rift, first thing I removed the built in headphones, was never very interested in using these so can't really comment on the quality.
It's much lighter than the DK2 and a lot more options for adjustment to give you a great fit, the part that's rests upon your face could do with being a little softer (imo) maybe I had it a bit tight against my face but I have a small nose and light was visible if I looked down.
I love the way, it turns itself on as you put your face into it and vice versa when you take it off, it's immediately visible the pixel reduction from just looking at the white oculus warning page before going into the oculus home zen room.
The colours certainly have more vibrance about them and clarity is very good. So straight off to ED
God rays, yes they are present but not all the time and I find them quite easy to ignore once you got yourself immersed in what your doing. Text is easily readable even without any super sampling, everything looks on a better scale now.
I remember people saying the scale was off in the DK2 or it was importing the correct ipd's etc but I could never really see it, yes my avatar looked a little undernourished but I felt size / length looked OK. But now it looks like I've put a few pounds on overnight much better portioned body etc
I encountered zero black smearing, space is much improved over the DK2's washed out colours, but defiantly not perfect but everybody sees things differently but I thought it's leaps and bounds over the DK2 quality.
Tracking was flawless, super smooth no complaints here.
I could go on and on but I'll leave it there, I was a DK2 user for over a 1.5 years, if your coming from one to a CV1 your going to very happy with the difference and quality but if your new to VR and your the CV1 is your first time
Have a box of tissues ready ....... o7
