- Fix for seed spikes not spawning meta-alloys
+10 points for finding them in an Anaconda as well.. Not the best view out of that ship for finding barnies.
Seed? Do we know "official" name for barnacles then?- Fix for seed spikes not spawning meta-alloys
Might make barnies a bit more visible I hope.- Increased distance for tiling rates on rocky and metal worlds to improve the distance you can see surface details from the materials. Also brightened the surfaces slightly
I just want to say, in regards to unknown probes. Please remember that they are a commoditie. They are going to be scoopable and about the size of a cargo canister.
It is not likely that they will be found in permanent POI.

On the Unknown Probe front.
Their location is going to depend on what they are probing for.
So the search needs to be based on your tin foil level.
e.g. If you think the name suggests active investigation by an alien species into what we are up to, then maybe you should be searching the bubble, not unpopulated space.
Then again, if they were in the bubble, you'd expect them to have been found randomly by now.
Hold on I'm confused sorry. The seed spikes spawn meta alloy, so shouldn't that make the meta alloy the seed? The official name for Barnacles has always been Barnacles, since their first appearance in the Meta-Alloys description.
The seeds are just those green pods, falling from the spikes when you shot them: the small ones, holding common materials, and the big ones holding Meta-Alloys.
And they've always been called seeds![]()
just checked patch notes.... all the spikes are persistant nowHold on I'm confused sorry. The seed spikes spawn meta alloy, so shouldn't that make the meta alloy the seed?
Edit: That would mean shooting the small spikes is bad because they haven't formed the seed (alloy) with the mats yet... Like unripe fruit. This makes sense doesn't it?

If anyone else wants to take up the probe in merope theory. Go ahead. I spent 2 hours yesterday looking for one. Maybe someone could do better?
They look like seed pods so could just be a nickname true. But if not, seed pods hold seeds so it stands to reason that the seeds are inside the seed pods on the end of the seed spikes? This is more or less the idea from the developers, I think. Practically, it's always the same two spikes that have mature MAs.
Both big and small are called seeds. We don't know if this is due to some reproductive function or just a nickname.
In modern space science parlance, a 'probe' is something you send into new areas of space, or something you stick into something solid, often the ground.
UA seem to cover the 1st definition, so that leaves the ground. UA's are known to exist in the Shell, so I think I will have a look at planets in the Shell to see if any have 'landed', and are sticking out of the ground
Add in the reduced spawn rate of UA.
Originally I just thought it was meta to prevent UA Bombing with the CRCR and/or the change in the USS mechanics. What if it had an in game reason (shock horror!). Where can the UA have gone to be in such low numbers if not landing/crashing onto the planets ?
I feel slightly uneasy that I might actually have a reasoned theory
Could also be a dead/useless entry like the "Trinkets of hidden Fortune". They where also listed in system map forbidden list for a long time and (public) no one found out the hidden secret ... Lets simple find one "unknown probe" ;-)
( in fact i only post to push close the thread ;-)

UA are spawning like crazy at the moment mate, trust me I have done countless experiments on them in the past week trying to grow a barnacle.
