The Star Citizen Thread v5

To be fair, I thought that was a reasonable response.

She has the right to see things that way, and she straight up says that its her opinion. Whats wrong with that?

I dont see it her way, I am still waiting to be convinced by SC, but everyone should be able to express their opinion after all.

What I havent liked here recently was the influx of people who thought they had the right to dictate what the conversation should be, or how it should be carried out.

Luckily that seems to have past (thanks to some good moderation on here) and we can get back to sharing out thoughts and talking about SC.

I would still like to hear (especially from the pro-SC crowd) what they think CIG will show off at Gamescom? And also, do you think like I do that they will have to pull some stops out to out do the reveals of Mass Effect Andromeda and COD:IW?

I think we'll see a number of things shown at either Gamescom or Citizencon (I've included both events as they may hold back some stuff from Gamescom so they have something for Citizencon).

- Procedural planet with integrated landing zone (likely a near-completed version of Nyx). If we don't see it beforehand I think we'll also see a procedural planet with flora rather than just a giant rock. Less likely is fauna but limited animal life is possible I guess.
- Another flyable ship or two. I predict the Caterpillar and Dragonfly. Possibly there will be more.
- Squadron 42 trailer and / or updated Morrow tour. I think there is also a good chance there will be more gameplay shown but this will be reserved for press only.
- Star Marine and possibly Sataball.
- Almost certainly another ship will be revealed (concept).

These are guesses based on what's been discussed on ATV, etc over the past few weeks. There may be more; there may be less. Either way I'm hoping for some solid progress.

I think CIG probably would have locked in what they are going to show at Gamescom (especially the press stuff) before the E3 reveals of CoD and ME. By that I mean I don't think that they will have seen the E3 reveals and decided to "pull some stops out" to match those other games. It will be interesting to see what they show off. If they show SQ42 footage there are certainly going to be comparisons made between it and CoD / ME and to be honest I'm not looking forward to these forums when it is shown. As always, the haters will say it is terrible even if it is amazing and the hard core fans will defend it even if it looks mediocre.

This is from 10 months ago. Notice the "coming soon" in capital letters.

People were dancing and singing the "prove of solid progress" song with this by that time. Screaming that soon they would be playing this... making plans... excited... and on such hype... buying more JPEGs.
And imagining that things would come faster and by now... they would have tons of systems in their machines to play, with several landing zones.... and with seamless transitions... and in the eve of a Squadron 42 release.
And CIG, came with the same talking repeated since 2013: "NOW, things are going to come faster".
And they never did. Smoke and mirrors with the only purpose to make people hyped to buy jpegs and desperately trying to deceive them with progress made. Things that they put in an editor and prepare for the show... or things "playable in uber machines on LAN".

SC blind supporters seem all of the same species of the fish Doly. But actually, I know that the regular promoters are not fools. Its sad to watch most of them, knowing that the "progress" is bull    , but trying to pretend that is normal, ok, because they want to help CIG to deceive more people, get their money, disappointing 10 in the medium yerm, but whatever... making 2 or 3 new zombie ship collectors in the freak show, which always was their goal, no matter how many customers they burn.

You just don't understand landing zones. They take time to perfect. 10 months is nothing - they had to build a company from the ground-up first, refactor everything to prove the power of refactoring, and roll the Morrow Tour in glitter some more.

Nyx doesn't exist - and it's unfair to suggest it exists because development only began last Thursday. They have been spending their precious development time on Dragonfly instead - surely you can see how a space scooter with no defined role or mechanics, but costs real cash, is much more important to CR's vision than a manky landing pad :D

They have been polishing these lz for a lot more than 10 months... Roberts shared reports since earlier 2013 about how soon people would be getting two landing zone, stores. etc. etc... estimated to earlier 2014.
I also remember of the same usual fans singing online of how all those reports were a proof of progress and how skme of them "were worried but now they weren't anymore after such outstanding progress shown".

:) they made a video. They also made a video for their Kickstarter. How close is anything in the latest actual release to anything that has been shown in videos before?

To be fair though - that in itself is not really a problem. Everyone likes shiny videos to show off all the cool stuff. The problem is when absolutely nothing comes of it.

I think that was before procedural planets were a thing. Originally the landing zones were a separate area that was streamed in as the ship flew through clouds and then automatically docked. Those original landing zones were likely put on hold once CIG decided to merge them with the procedural planet tech, no point doing the work twice.

Loving your posts Asp.

Other than all the broken stuff.
There's something that's been bugging me, excuse the bad pun.
Why are there blowflies buzzing around that gas planet Crusader? (Stupid, stupid name btw)

Star Citizen will pull out of Gamescon, hype you for "Citizencon" and then fold shortly before.

I fully believe these reports are completely made up out of thin air.

Erm, he was specifically capturing that bug on video so he could post it to the issue council (Star Citizen's bug reporting feature). The game is in development, there are going to be bugs. It doesn't stop others having fun in the game however:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPK6AeNqx40

I've seen that video before. It was used in exactly the same way to showcase just how "fun" the PU is in SC. Me, and quite a few others noticed then that for the vast majority of the video it just has this one guy wandering around the starting station, then flying around in space for awhile admiring the view, and then even more walking around with nothing of note happening.

And then when there WAS some action, literally in the last minute of a near-20 minute long video, it STILL managed to show off how buggy and unreliable the netcode is in the game!

That's not exactly what I would call "fun", nor a shining endorsement of how this game is going to "wow" people when, and if, it ever comes out.

Stop trying so hard to defend the currently indefensible, it makes you look rather silly.

What makes me laugh about this list is that other than the name of the concept ships... that was EXACTLY their "big reveal" marketing of 2015. Reheated Santa Monica leftovers and nothing actually integrated and delivered...

Star Marine and SATA ball which CR is saying is right around the corner: just like last year.

Squadron 42, we all know it's not going to be delivered at the end of THIS year despite their own marketing saying it will and no honest statements about it. Just like last year.

Procedural plus landing zone video nonsense without anything to show for it in game where it matters, with Nyx claimed to be soon - just like last year.

Almost certainly another concept ship sale - just like... every year.

Here comes another one, just like the other one...

Chairman sees something in a movie or another game.
Chairman likes it and declares it's part of The Vision©
Chairman shares his latest vision with the masses, warning it will be even better than what the masses expect.
Chairman's praetorian guard quickly builds a mockup visually good enough to arouse the masses
Chairman do the math: "if team made it in 2 weeks, it can be finalized and integrated in live in the month" and tell it to the masses
Months and months of shoehorning attempts that appear unsuccessful and to break the main branch
Chairman declares it's delivered, but needs a rewriting of the engine's core, and will be better when item 2.0 and netcode 5.0 will arrive.
Yes item 3.0 and netcode 7.0 (yes, chairman found something that looks cool on the Internet yesterday) aren't here yet, but you know Chairman has to build a new company in Belize to make them there.
Chairman says the masses are too much impatient and that hurts development process, but if the masses buy a lot of the new JPEG, Chairman will forgive.

I think there are far fewer haters in this thread than you expect. Sceptics are more likely, but that's only going on past performance. I for one would love to see concrete signs of real progress. I agree that they are probably locked in for Gamescom at least, but the ability to change would be impressive in its self because there would be enough stable and viable content to do so.

As I said before, maybe in the previous thread, CIG are only bound by what's cool and fun when generating planets, unlike Frontier who have simulated the compositions and histories of each world from scratch in their Stellar Forge. Hopefully they come up with more than the shaded noise map they previously used.

I'm not going to prejudge their shows, but I wonder how long they can keep the faithful if they show nothing of note in either of them.

These people either never have played a video game in the last two decades since Wing Commander or they are so deep in sunken costs, that they must tell themselves, that they enjoy walking around lot. Or the third option: it is just another paid shill with a free YouTuber/press account full of ships and doesn't actually play video games in real life.

Holy... holy sheeit... is CR actually Kim Jong-Un, CIG/RSI is his government yes-men/lapdogs, Star Citizen is the North Korean infrastructure (or lack there-of) and his ardent supporters that refuse/can't see beyond their borders are the loyal masses that pay to be starved but as long as they praise the dear leader they get a glimpse at the holy land? Is... is this whole debacle just an allegory for North Korea and now that we see how bad they have it we must donate money to jpegs of starving kids to liberate them?

I'd been wondering whether SC players would be able to land on the sun at some point...
