Why is it bad? CIG can coast on hype and promises alone until 2018 without the need to show anything. The community just wants new ships to buy and that will be provided at Gamescom.
if they don´t have to show anything at gamescom they´re in big doodoo. that pretty much guarantees that SQ42 won´t be released anytime soon and it´ll make more and more guys at their own forums go wild. you wouldn´t believe how many of them still think SQ42 will be released in 2016
They will pull out a rabbit, maybe even a magic German, just you wait and see.....

That community is already becoming more and more cult-like. Just look at reddit - they're asking for "trolls" to be banned from the sub, they can't handle dissent.
I don't think they even care about the game releasing at this point, it's just them against the world. The belief is what matters, not reality.

This is absolutely CIG's fault as it is a massive failure in communication.
If staff members or CR are making public statements that are unclear, or even completely off-base, then it is the marketing or PR dept's mistake (depending who/what context statements are made). Those staff members, especially the big boss, should be under strict instructions not to talk like that.
If the press are writing articles based on these unclear statements and are not being corrected by CIG then their PR dept has failed miserably. And a chairman who is unable to reign his mouth in is fantastically unprofessional. CR's letter/rant about the Escapist is the worst example, for sure, but it does seem to be par for the course.
It's absolute amateur*-hour, to be frank.
*My employers do, amongst other things, corporate PR for multinational clients. This is the sort of mess that they are paid large amounts of money to prevent from happening!

Well, he does say "current build... at that time" which could mean that a newer build may be coming prior to Gamescom and they'll just be showing it off. I would hope so, they need something better to show than what is presently in the wild.

Depends when we see the next 2008 like market correction/crash. It's going to be sometime in the 18 months. It's an election year in the US and they don't call them "October Surprises" for nothing.

I was genuinely expecting some glimmer of decent progress. Disappointed tbh. If Erin can't show strong progress in Q4 year, then I'll finally write the whole thing off as an elaborate joke.
