I requested my commander name 10 hours ago. still nothing, but I know that it's the early hours of the morning now over in the UK.

Approval is a manual process carried out by a real person(s) working in the Frontier Development offices in the UK. Therefore approval will only usually happen during UK office hours. If you submitted your name near to 5pm UK time you will probably have to wait until tomorrow (now today ) for it to be approved, depending on how big the backlog becomes then it may take a couple of days. Just be patient.

Interesting, and assuming the Wikipedia article is correct also an earlier use of the name "Thargoid".

I was aware of Kremmen, but living in the sticks on a strict BBC Radio diet I never heard it.

Commander names

If you already have an in-game Commander name and wish to keep it, this is of no use to you. You only need this if ...

* You wish tho register a name because up until now you have been Cmdr 56789 (for example)

* You wish to change your current Cmdr name

been a player of the original on the BEEB but mostly on the C64, Amiga at the PC too

I have changed it to 2012 Torchie I am assuming the prefix "Commander" will be present in the Beta testing phase...

For people in the beta and alpha there is now the facility to register the name of your commander, here's how:

1. Login at: https://support.orerve.net/
2. Navigate to the ‘COMMANDER PROFILE’ tab
3. Enter your desired new commander name in the ‘Request a New Name’ field and press the ‘Request Name Change’ button.
4. If this is approved it will update the commander name at the top of the page.
5. If it is automatically denied a red message will appear above the field, stating the reason for the rejection.
6. If it is manually denied the player will receive an email telling them that their name has been rejected, once the batch update is complete.

Technically there probably is no limit, so it may be more a case of how often FD staff are prepared to do so.

Seems to have been a mixup with my Commander name. In the Commander profile it welcomes me with the name I chose for the NPC character.

Therefore not sure what will happen if I try to change it.
Afraid I'll lose both of them.

I submitted my request over 24 hours ago... that's fine - I can be patient, but my only concern is that it may not be approved in time for release on Friday...

On the issue of not being able to include ranks in your name, that's a good thing as I would have been too tempted to choose "Captain Obvious" ('Cmdr Obvious' just doesn't have the same ring to it).

In the old app backers, my name of commander took several weeks before being accepted. I do not see how a name of commander may be validated in 3-4 days. Unless if Frontier has placed a team specially dedicated for the beta
