HTC Vive resolution and  focus

Aye, Also disillusioned with the lack of... anything. I just want to know, you know. how is it progressing, how much trouble is it, etc.

Exactly. Even if their words are 'we are trying our best and we want a comprehensive fix, we need time to do this right', I'd feel better. No word as to if any progress is being made for months. With the Engineers out now, if they don't have this fixed by the next major update... I'll become quite disillusioned.

What was actually said about the vive at lavecon https://www.twitch.tv/laveradio/v/78330489 time code 05:20 ish

Basically, the guy who really knew wasn't at Lavecon so they couldn't give a firm answer.

Well watching that was painful... Saying that it is on the list and adding that they have a very long list makes me feel like they don't give a second toss about the issue and quite frankly simply confirms that their silence means that it isn't on their list of priorities and I would be surprised if somebody is even working on it full time. The only thing I could take from that answer is that they don't see it as something important as they have already provided somewhat of a fix (Which was nominal in my opinion and barely worth mentioning), so we the users should be satisfied. "Speechless moment"

"Got my breath back" :D
It is a pity to see such a game with amazing potential squandered by really bad business decisions which crap all over their hard core fans who are willing to spend a lot of money to get the best experience. First we had massive graphics downgrades and it took a year to get some improvement on that front and now we get to hear that nobody really knows what is happening on the bug and that it is on some really long list... Infuriating would be the best way to describe it, but honestly I won't be fooled to give Frontier a pound more until they fix their attitude to their customers and start providing fixes to their long standing bugs as even if they add more features what use will they be if they are ridden with bugs and errors...

Before I get butchered by all the white knights for expressing my frustration towards FD - let me say just one thing - I loved the promise of this game, but the way FD is ruining the original promise (including the CG interference just recently to release the lock down, buggy releases, game breaking bugs introduced at each expansion, even more RNG and no event based content or proper reward/risk for over a year now, VR not working) shows me that they have no idea how to make it good, stable, bug free and solid experience based on their marketing hype. They know how to use Marketing Hype phrases, but so far delivered on almost no fronts. I'm gutted that a game that could have been a game of the decade for Space sim is being ruined like this. The dream was good, but it is turning slowly but surely into a nightmare.

Disclaimer - I'm happy to use hyperbole as FD seems to like that sort of language and if they read it they will understand that I mean only 50% of it and will deliver only 25% of it ;) )

I think you're wrong. I suspect the staff read most of the posts and that takes away from their development time.

Just because you don't say anything does not mean you are not paying attention.

Well I REALLY hope you're wrong. I can't blame them if they don't read every post, that's totally understandable and is what I want to believe. But if they did read all of these posts and threads asking for a status update (JUST A STATUS UPDATE) and they choose to ignore us.... that I cannot accept. That'd be a complete lack of courtesy and respect for all of us. Even bad karma for them, and that's pretty logical and I think almost everyone can understand what I mean.

Thats what community managers / interns are for.
I don't think any real development time is lost because of forum perusal.

Well... I am sure there are plenty of things given higher priority than matters VR. Let's face it; We are a vanishingly small portion of the player base, and even then, I expect gameplay issues almost always go before most other stuff.

Then there is the matter of how much work you lay on things that may possibly be up for an overhaul sometime in the future. I could for instance imagine (SPECULATION, CONJECTURE) that the galaxy map, which is not quite as one could wish in VR, might one day be reworked to integrate in a way that does not break continuity, and flows right into the orrery if you keep zooming in on a star. A button that smoothly rearranges the orrery view into a schematic layout could merge the current system map with those two, into what would become a single unified module.

Not that I don't want all the fixes nao plz. :7

...then again; I can also not wait for a theoretical day when Elite goes all raytracing, with Imagination Technologies ( https://home.otoy.com/otoy-and-imagination-unveil-breakthrough-powervr-ray-tracing-platform/ ) getting to a point where they can eat Nvidia's and AMD's lunch. :9

My take on the Lavecon response is that it's a highly technical matter involving render pipelines and lots of math. It just wasn't Sandro or Michael's area of expertise. I'm not sure who the technical guy is that was there talking about the engine but I would've hoped that he knew something but no.

It will get fixed at some point. It sucks having this cool piece of kit and knowing that the best experience, in a game that we all really enjoy playing, is bugged but we just have to have patience.

Patience for how long? Patience until is fixed or until they acknowledge we exist, still waiting and hoping?
To me it doesn't really matter how technical the issue is, I just want to know a timeframe of when it's planned to be fixed, and what are they going to do exactly to fix it... just to avoid getting hyped to then find out it's just a font change, like they did before.

As long as it takes? I don't mean to be inflammatory - I'm in the same boat as you. I finally upgraded my DK2 to a Vive and the game that I have spent far and away the most hours in VR is a mess. Everyone talks about the resolution issue and how SS magically fixes it but it doesn't, it's still very jaggy - worse than it should be, my DK2 is clearer. Not only that though there is the periphery bug so I have glittering artifacts in my FOV AND the scale is way off. My avatar's body looked midget size. I'm really frustrated because I have to plug my DK2 back in to get a half decent VR experience, that shouldn't be the case.

My experience with FDev when it comes to VR is that they are very quiet about fixes but they do eventually happen. I'm not sure why they're quiet when FDev themselves seem more open to their community. Maybe it's because the VR guys are engineers that can't communicate with other people? Who knows.

Well I'd prefer if they just tell us what's going on instead of having to guess. How long does it take to just write a few words? Is it SO difficult?
I understand your position, but I don't share it. I believe I'm not asking too much, just a little consideration and the truth. I've said this before and I'll say it again: Ignoring customers is bad policy. I'm not a troll, I don't enjoy writing all these posts, but I'm really tired of being completely disregarded. And it's pretty obvious I'm not the only one feeling that way.

I hear you man.

We need to stop politely discussing this in a handful of threads, and make more and more. We should petition Valve as well to REMOVE ELITE AS A VIVE COMPATIBLE GAME. They can take that little symbol off the market you know.
The VR community is growing, and it is by far the biggest boost to the player base as nothing else as exciting is getting NEW players into Elite. It's not like Engineers suddenly had thousands of people buying this game and it's season pass.
I was disappointed and felt ripped of with Elite when I bought it. Then I bought a Vive, came back years later and still I'm getting ripped off. I understand it fits a lot of people's expectations. I just truly despise being told a feature will be implemented properly when it is not.
This is exactly what happened with Subnautica, except the developers actually removed their claim of support for SteamOS and Vive after I brought it up. It's just so lazy.

There is a very long list. I believe that. This game needs a very long list to get better. However, that list is never going to get smaller. So FD you may as well put a little more effort into whatever you have to do for VR. I'm sick of checking these threads. Maybe in 2 years we'll have the Hardware to put SS to 5.0 and fix the issue, because this current workaround is such a joke. I cannot wait for the next game to rival this comes out. I'm sure after the PS4, No Man's Sky will come to PC VR. Evochron Legacy is implementing VR.

FD, you were given a great chance to lead the future of the VR industry in your genre and you failed. I am not going to lose hope in others, but you have honestly lost my respect and interest forever. So many people have posted on this thread and no one from FD posts because they have nothing to say.

Here's something I'm trying to teach my little nephew that maybe you guys at FD need to learn too. When you can't do something, just admit it instead of being silent and failing.

You have a good point there. It's actually hurting the Vive to be affiliated with Elite: Dangerous when it obviously isn't working as intended.

Vive shouldn't be endorsing Elite: Dangerous. Sadly. Maybe if HTC pulled the plug FD would take heed.

Sadly it is hurting Vive as even on this forum one can read over and over to buy Rift because ED looks rubbish on Vive and it does not do justice to Vive at all and it should not wear the sticker. It is a shamble on the side of FD and they should loose that sticker immediately or remove it themselves. I could understand having issues on Launch of Vive, but we are well past that point now. Vive is readily available in most stores around the world and this type of experience ED is currently presenting is very off putting from VR in general, so I wholeheartedly agree that they should not be using the sticker at all!!!!

If there's no response by next Thursday (2 weeks since I posted the new thread in the main forums), I'll write a letter to Steam, and also start tweeting until we get an answer. I hate it to come to this, but I won't just forget about it and move along.

I would agree that the more waves the "merrier" at this point.

As a Vive user, yes i love the VR experience, but yes, it is flawed. If they're not fixing the resolution/graphic quality and depth of field issues then i'd be seriously disappointed. Problem is that i want to play Elite...but i want the full experience.
