Maybe a basic form of this telling us where to look on a planets surface?

on that note, another experiment I tried:

1. Go to Merope 5 C, Lat 0 degrees, Long 0 degrees
2. Land
3. Get out in the SRV
4. Drive on a heading of 315 degrees on the compass

Results: I found nothing of note.

here's a proposal:

1. get an anaconda
2. get 2-3 SRVs to land on it(either on top or the conda would go upside down to show its belly)
3. create a wave scanner arc
4. fly at the highest possible speed so the SRVs wont be dropped

i've seen plenty of binaries like this while playing the game. They always show the orbit lines of both (usually a circle within a circle). I can't get Merope 5 to show an orbit line at all, which is why I was so confused.

Welcome to the joys of Merope :D If you use the orrery, the main orbit line that you see is that of the Barycenter for 5 and 6. If you zoom in as close as you can to 5 you will see that it is very slightly offset to the barycenter. I imagine that in the game it doesn't show the orbit line of 5 as it is too close to the barycenter to be visible.

Hehehe, pot, kettle, black!

I think I've been focusing on the actual mystery for longer than you my dear colonel.

Haha it's OK I'm used to his ramblings after all this time.

Ozric, you actually have some intelligent comments once in a blue moon so you get a pass. The outburst of "my daddy is bigger than yours" that came out of nowhere though. Maybe you are just having a bad day. Calling another user's comments / posts / replies "ramblings" is bordering on a direct insult and could quite likely be a breach in the rules. Whatever the case I forgive you for crossing the line this time. Lets just continue your awesome long term focus mastery on this mystery.

there we go so we need to land on a planet eventually

Yes, a lot of new bases was placed for the engineers, is it possible they slipped one under the carpet relating to this mystery, maybe a hidden alien or human research base or something. Maybe we should be on the lookout for this too.

Funny cause that is a direct insult.

Can we stop swinging the handbags please?

Sorry T.j

Well, that explains it. The orbit line of Merope 5C is entire within the star itself.

Edit: I'm not an astronomer and I don't know how accurate orbits need to be, but this bugs me. If Merope 6 is causing Merope 5 to "orbit" along a path entirely within the surface of Merope 5, then I would call it a wobble. And Merope 6 would still be classified as Merope 5d in my head.

E.g. barnacles are in planets, and even if they are related to the UA/UP they might not necessarily be connected to 'the mystery', so I'd say lets not turn that into a conclusion.

Could we ask Brett C to add the words "need" and "must" to the blocked words for this thread? :D
