With the idea of getting a more simple point of view, I showed the UP sonogram image to my son. I showed him how it was made in Audacity (which he thought was awesome and now I'm going to have to scan every song he listens to), and then asked him what he thought it meant. He said that the message is a clock.
He was unable to articulate exactly why he thought so (he's 8), how the clock worked, or exactly when it was counting to, so he has really not contributed anything which I can hang some science on, but I thought it was an interesting attempt anyway.
The only thing he did was creep me out. When I asked him how long we had, he looked me right in the eye and told me "I don't know, but not long. They are coming. Maybe you should run."
So, yeah. A trip to Jacques' is sounding better and better. And kids can be really creepy.
