So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

Probably not relevant, but just FYI. When I was most of the way to the Heart and Soul nebulae ( Hegua FV-H B25-1), I saw a degraded emiisions USS. I checked it out and found a wreck with a canister of "small survey data cache". I picked it up, but it showed as stolen, so I ejected and blasted it. Maybe 10 jumps later, I find another one, so I picked it up and kept it. I haven't seen another USS since. Has anybody else seen USSs this far out? Has anybody else ever found survey data? What should I do with it?

I'm presently just the other side of the difficult part of the rift. Now on the home run to the other side and the computer is able to plot my route again. I had to plot about 4 jumps at a time for maybe 1000LY manually all accross the middle bit because there were lots of dead ends. My commander name is the same as my forum name, so If you want me for anything, let me know.

how could we have missed it?

I knew something was odd after the nap during the selling of my exploration data coming back from the rift.

Also, isn't it odd that the old lady states that "it's all there" in an imperial computer system but when Solome goes hunting for it all she finds is a holofax of the old woman repeating basically the same info salome already knows except for the coordinates? So did the old lady forget she made a secret message? Was this recording captured from some other location and Solome finding it there was not intended by the old woman? Meaning the "it's all there" data files refer to something other than what Salome found.

How far down did you start out into the rift out of curiosity ?

I came in west of the H&S Nebulas, following close to or above grid 48. Been trying out som tinfoilery and have one left: EAFOTS RO-C systems. Right On, Commander. This is what happens when you spend too much time out there.
My pilot even has tinfoil underwear by now...

That is the issue and problem with this. Going back and forth as its so many jumps away. Although we could stay out there and wait for someone to uncover the clues like alot do the problem is then we are tied to it. Thats why i want to get adleast an outpost out there for selling data and also maybe some mining to change it up and have a bit of freedom

Very true and that would be great. And building it would give us something to do besides wander around randomly.

I have found both Degraded emissions and Survey cache USS as far as 15000ly from the bubble in all directions but good observations :)

I'm trying to work with what we have, as fact, using the tools available, to come up with a search area with confirmed points. I came up with a plan for myself and wanted to share in case in made sense to others.

The confirmed points we have are the R&R line, EAFOTS, H&S Nebula, the listening posts that CMDR Salomé including the CoR patrol zone, some clues in EDSM.

Today I was browsing EDSM, looking at the rift, H&S nebula, EAFOTS sector, and noticed the POI that were entered for the CoR. When clicking into the details, I noticed that they were entered by CMDR Salomé herself - and confirmed by the CoR that they have received a mission for a specific patrol route. They are to patrol watching for anything strange coming out of the rift, this gave me an idea. So this leads me to believe the patrol route is setup in a way that is to be sure to catch whatever it may be, coming back out of the rift, so in a way in lessens the searchable areas of the rift not much, but I think gives reason to prioritize certain areas over others.

I mocked this up to scale on a map and included key info below. I actually came up with 3 potential search areas for myself (and anyone looking for some kind of direction). Let me explain the map a bit first.... You can see the CoR official listening posts; Alpha and Beta on the map, their patrol route is the grey dotted line originating from each post. This leads me to believe the area can't be wider than this into the rift, so I extrapolated two lines 90 degrees off a straight line drawn between the patrol route. These are the red lines in the map below.

The additional lines you see off of the R&R line is just for me, I wanted to add an area to give some % error from the origination distance from close to Sol. The top line has a shallower angle to intersect with the edge of EAFOTS, the bottom line intersects with my original destination where I'm headed at the far end of the rift (I'm meeting the R&R line at the Outer Arm, then coming back in the search areas).

The green square is the EAFOTS sector drawn to scale on the map. Giving some thought, I figure there are 3 potential search areas.

A, the green triangle area cut off by the R&R line. I feel this will be the primary search area, given the clear intersection with the R&R line. Personally if I wasn't already in the secondary area almost at the end of the rift, I'd be looking there. Next, secondary is area B, the pale yellow area on the far end of the rift. This was my original primary search area as I felt the old woman told us to cross the rift. I'm finishing what I want to do here before going to 'A.' Area C I did not want to count out because it fits the patrol zone... it's the entire area from the R&R line back to the red boarder line I drew.... that's pretty much it.

I'm going to hit B, then A, then fly aimlessly in C..... at least it's a plan!!

They would be pretty troll if they put in right in the i in Rift xD

Thats why I am currently in tionisla, to have a look at things there. I've didn't noticed anything interesting on local galnet, zo I am having a trip round the system to see it ( never landed on planet with volcanism so I am going on ground trip too :) ) don't really expect to find anything but its as a good hunch as any and might be worth checking out if only to rule it out

I think this is something we are missing. We know that "something" could be found during gamma. This means that "something" is out there. Buuuuuuuuut, we do not have confirmation that ALL of the clues were in the game, as evidenced by the graveyard that is soon to be added. I feel so excited about it that I have changed course and am heading, at beep and jump speed, to Tunisia( Or whatever) I propose that further clues may be gleaned from planetary searches in that, or Prism?

So, I was zooming around the galaxy map in the Formidine Rift area lst night, seeing as I'm about 5k LY form Jaques, and whilst seeing where some of those on my friends list were, starting thinking about the clues.

Now, if this has been mentioned, please ignore my post, as whilst I have tried to keep up - there's a lot of posts to keep up with, and I may have missed one or two.

So, when I think "look tot he skies" I think clouds, and looking at the galaxy map, I saw a few very obvious dark regions, near H&S - have we checked out the possibility that what we're looking for is in one of these dark regions?

He went the wrong way? no he didnt he had to drop out of hyperspace due to issues. but i dont get your point anyways :p

So, when I think "look tot he skies"

It was Drew saying "eyes on the skies" with regards to more GalNet news inbound, which was followed up by "soon."

I'm not sure Drew's statements are really dropping hints at this point, he may very well be, but I am very certain the person and the info from only that person we should be focused on only is that of, about and from the "Old Woman." She is the only one that has "been there."

I know Drew is the source of it, and I'm certain he knows - he has to - but the "Old Woman" is his creation and she's the only one who has "been there" in the Elite realm.

So stuff from Salome/Kahina, not really anything to go by since she is still trying to find it as well. Drew, he's an awesome lore author and he has spun quite the confusing web to untangle. The "Old Woman" - she is the sole source of actual information, and not exactly reliable due to the whole memory wipe deal.

Thanks Drew, you have introduced an interesting mystery and a very confusing one!

As has been clarified by Drew, John Harper, and Dan Grubb, that quote (and its various variants which appear in different versions of John's kickstarter and in And Here The Wheel) refers to a series of completely unrelated things which the Admiral has seen - so the Formidine Rift is not directly connected to the others in the quote. Lucky Luke, can we get this added to the first page somewhere if it has not been already? Ta.

I already called out the reference regarding the quote in the third OP. I'll make it bold to call it out a little clearer ...

I have also added your description above to the list of tinfoil clues in the fourth OP.

yes i have some degraded Uss zero threat, with large data cache they are not relevant for this mystery,

If they would be with threat 1,2,3,4 maybe

before i headed out again I have be at Tionisla and could find nothing special if it was important then the graveyard was already there,

I cannot believe frontier would troll us with this Galnet post and we head 8Kly out and then we need to come back when 2.2 hit for another clue at the new placed graveyard

I have suggested it before and reading others perhaps thinking over similar lines, I will suggest it again.

I believe there are more clues to uncover in Tionisla. I could be wrong, and some may not desire any more clues at all. Personally, I want to uncover as much of the story as possible and I do not believe searching systems out in black will achieve this. At the very least, there could be something to work out that could help narrow down the search or give a hint as to what to search for out there.

Fly safe o7
