i wish they would just release the original image. I mean, we've found it now, but it's almost impossible to clean up.

Just put it on Galnet, with like "Today Alliance scientists have claimed to have enhanced the Probe image and are releasing it to the scientific community for analysis". Not strictly cheating like (they have better audio/analysis technology in the 33rd century than we do lol)

Hi, so this is my first post on this mega thread so just bear with me on this theory.

Michael Brooks has said that the UP points to planets, the UA and UP can be both found in deep space with one being a bit rarer, now as far as I know they have never been found together so it leads me to this theory, the UP spectrogram that we have found it what the probe has found (it's a probe, most likely scouts out systems this is what the military does when attacking a city, they get as much Intel as possible). Now the UP sends out the signal through its purr and howls and what ever and the UA picks it up and relays it to another and so on.

What I'm saying is this, the UP scouts a system, the UA relays it to another UA so it's sender can basically see the system composition.

This may sound crazy but it's what I've come up with

Just an interesting point, and one that I don't think has been made - MB never said there were "free floating UP's". He only said that the convoys were "not the best way to find the Unknown Probes".

that means there is an easier way, but doesn't necessarily mean there are free floating UP's.

He also replied that the easier way was 'logical, but probably only after the fact' - again, not directly referencing a location of free floating UPs - the point being that, there is an easier way to get UP's, which will appear logical once we know what it is, but it is not directly obvious.

He also said that UAs and UPs are space based so one not need Horizons to get them.

I think he said sth like this... :p

Actually, I think he did. He told CMDR Delmonte (at a Lavecon I think), then confirmed it on here more recently:

Because some tests seem more likely to produce results than others, in the end the UP holder is going to try the things that *they* think look more likely.

If support replace my UP lost due to client crash today I will do this one tonight and report back.

"Honk a UP at the huge crater on 5c" is pretty vague though. Anything more specific, or just anywhere do?

My rough guess (from reported large crater coordinates & extrapolating from the UP diagram radial line offset) was that the UP should be honked at around (19 to 20, -43). Cmdr Eugen Bold reported (within the largest) a smaller crater with a noticeable central peak located at (19.4908, -43.0012), which I suspect is not coincidental. Hence I think the area around that peak should be heavily honked with a UP. It may need several attempts within that smaller crater if the EMP range is limited to 200 metres- good hunting & hope you have Shadowplay set for 15 to 20 minutes!

thanks Cmdr!

Can you recall any of the systems this has been reported in?

Sorry no, I also thought it was just background music & ignored the post.
might be worth a search on this thread for music?

No, not crazy at all, but a theory should be useful in allowing tests to be drawn up to check it & I don't think this does. But I like it! I do agree the UPs are gathering Intel, but for what purpose & where is a moot point.

In case you were wondering what's inside, I don't know either:

Off topic help please

Sorry these are off topic questions. I have posted several times this morning. One of those included a multiquote, but that then appeared in several of my subsequent posts (but, strangely, not all). Should I somehow manually switch off a multiquote option once I've used it?

secondly, I have been pondering returning to the bubble & refitting my ship due to my appalling susceptibility to NPC pirates since 2.1 landed, and I suspect soon to hostile aliens. At present I have a 5A shield generator & 6B fuel scoop on my exploration Asp. I'm toying with the idea of swapping the compartments & going for a 6D shield & 5A scoop. Any idea if this is sensible? I don't want to drop my 40ly jump range, & like the rapid scoop time, but would welcome more time to get away or occasionally to fight without being destroyed within a couple of seconds. And why is a 5A scoop more expensive than a 6 but has lower scoop rate?

well, one obviously easier way would to buy or borrow them - question is where and from who?

Probably been ninja'd - but he has confirmed they can be found in space.

Wowzers!

Wowzers!

Yup, seems to confirm a suspicion that I've had for a while that we're supposed to be able to separate the 'fragments' from the UA without destroying it.
No idea what the mystery disks inside the head are though.

I suppose this is hard to test, but do we know if a UP left free floating is detectable as a USS? Drop one, frame shift and does it appear as a contact? I realise this means probably losing one but maybe frameshifting around is not the way to look as they dont show up.
