The Star Citizen Thread v5

You'd think that if all they had a secret development build they'd take THIS OPPORTUNITY to show it off.

But no, they don't, and the subreddit will bend over backwards to explain that they really do but there are reasons there's EXACTLY ZERO evidence for it and moreover,

Wondering if what they are showing is not much different than the content supportive magazines have been seeing during their magical studio tours.

So then... No Star Marine (HAH!) reveal at Gamescom.

No 2.6 patch reveal at Gamescom (what ever good THAT would do anyway).

Absolutely no 2.7 Jesus patch news (until I guess the heavily scripted Friday damage control presentation and dream stream).

And now there are backers, having heard all of this being confirmed by Lando on the stream, are already making excuses for CIG... "If we had any really big reveals to do, we'd probably save them for CitizenCOn".

That's right, after the cowardly no-show at E3 (and now we know just WHY CIG gave that conference the last minute swerve that they did!), and with backers telling sceptics that the reason they did it was that E3 was "not important", "just a big publisher showcase where all the usual stuff is shown", and that "actually, CIG were *really* aiming for Gamescom to reveal the good stuff!"... now it's been refactored into them pushing new reveals to CitizenCon.

This... This is just priceless!

While I suspect the showing will be underwhelming, today is just press day at Gamescom...everyone will be doing their big reveals over the next few days. Who knows, maybe we are all a bunch of jerks and CIG/RSI has just been downplaying a huge surprise...doubtful

Supposedly there will be little news until Friday.

Tomorrow they will play the PTU, confirmed by Lando.

They are showing stuff to the press in a separate booth
...so they have something to show but there is no info about it ...yet.

:(

Much as I find the idea of them having absolutely nothing to show simultaneously hilarious and inconceivable - I just can't fully believe that is the situation.

Surely Chairman Boberts must have something up his sleeve for Friday!?

DAY 1 | DAY 2 | DAY 3 [PRESENTATION] | DAY 4 | DAY 5

Too many days to not have a thing to show...

I would wait until the friday before jumping and saying there is nothing at all.

As quoted above:
[Will there be DirectX 12 or Vulkan support?] They are investigating future-proofing with DirectX and Vulkan – undecided whether they will go with one or both.

Am I being overly cynical if I see this as being used as a convenient excuse for why the project isn't ready to be released, yet again? Sure, developers can change their minds about graphics APIs while working on a project - but 'investigating future-proofing' on a game you are telling people (or at least, people who ask for refunds) is "very nearly over the line to completion" doesn't sound to me like a sensible decision. If it is that close to release, get it out the door.

Because missing the opportunity to get press coverage is a good thing?

The actual Overwatch booth at Gamescom...

CIG, did you actually WANT to get new people to look at the game, or are you trying to only appeal to the already committed backers who watch the Twitch streams?

I liked how, during the latter part of the stream, Disco Lando and that long haired surfer dudebro that popped in occasionally whilst BadNewsBaron was flying around in 2.4.1 and clipping through his ship or had the game randomly crash on him, they were trying to give the impression that there was some serious buzz being created by their booth. Even going so far as to say they felt "sorry" for whoever they were next to because they were losing out.... Except you could see on the camera which was pointing out towards the hall, that there was hardly more than 10 or 12 people there waiting or having a look, whilst the rest just milled through without paying any notice of CIG's booth.

Also it was funny how Lando was bigging up the 5000+ viewers they had during the stream as if it was some sort of big deal, when anyone with half a brain to check could go back to the "Browse Games" page of Twitch and see for themselves the fact that Star Citizen was not in the top 10 active streams at the time.

Sounds like a Hillary Rally LMAO!!!

Rolan's right though, we can't really just say there's nothing after the first day. It looks like it, but let's hold our horses. That CIG_Bearded dude did make it sound like they wouldn't be bringing anything though, so...
