Bloody hell.

UP lost again!!

If you don't know I deployed the UP for testing at Pleione 4 yesterday and immediate crash to desktop, UP lost.

Support were able to verify and replaced.

I have just literally booted ED up, logged in, and while at Pleione 4 thought I might as well do the test that failed yesterday.

Deployed UP, again immediate CTD.

I am wondering if there is something odd about Pleione 4 (besides being having 6g gravity) why would it seemingly consistently CTD. (2 out of 2 attempts)

Argh, gutted for you. 2 seems rather coincidental...

Hey there everyone. I just found this discussion. I found a up on a planet while looking for barnacles. My screen grab for Xbox was disabled but I took a picture with my phone just in case I wanted to go back. Anyway I can go back tonight(I'm working) and get all the details and pictures.

That would be huge, looking forward to the details! Since the other UA collection patterns had been repeated, I was hoping that surface UP's would be repeated as well. Since this is essentially a free-floater, it would be hugely important to get a recording of the ADS honk prior to scooping one of these badboys up.

Any idea what general region were you in? Pleiades?

I deployed a UA and recovered it yesterday right here, did that to verify a UP wouldn't drift too much. But the UP seems to trigger a crash?

seems to me that the problem is in coding of the game, somehow that might give us an unintended hint, maybe game crashes because Pleione 4 is in some aspect
near to the determinants for the "original" UP task nd program gets stuck?

Really cool seeing the cut-away view of the UA from the art book. First thing that popped into my head is that the inside strikes me as being some sort of drive. Immediately thought of the electric motors in slot-cars. May be in the minority on this but it really looks like a motor or generator of some sort to me.

Can't wait to see what is revealed during gamescom and hopefully it'll be something we all are hoping for!

I know.

Got home from work, rebooted machine given yesterday's crash.

Started ED, am in the exact same position as yesterday, right near Pleione 3.

Deploy UP client crash at exactly the moment UP leaves the cargo hatch.

It happening twice really makes me think there may be some special UP behaviour here.

Yesterday I deployed a UA right here and limpet scooped, no issue, UP issue.

2 times out of 2 seems more that just coincidence.

Another support ticket, I have asked them to comment on whether I should retry here. I mean it seems like something might be odd about this spot as regards the UP.

Sorry for those who requested specific experiments, none tonight. :(

or might be a gyroscope, so it can turn and point :)

Oh, cool, didn't know that Net's was from planetside. The caveat is that Vent's Merope deep space recording is not at the slower purr rate. Because all of his recordings have the same purr rate, and all of the other recordings have the same purr rate. I'm gonna check the Pleione 4 video now.

I do both vis and by ear, it's easy to see many of them using the spectrograph (once cleaned up and filtered) and verify by ear.

Pleione 4: 34 purrs, 10 chirp triplets for a rate of 11.3 purrs/min and 3.3 chirp triplets/min. Pleione 4 is at the faster purr rate.

Yeah, we need more data! :D

I need to listen to vents merope audio, I only used mykls. I will do that tonight when I'm at home. If I recall correctly Vent didn't remember how deep in deep space he was.

Hopefully customer support gets back to me soon.

Keep up the good work!

Pleione is special enough that the Empire put a capital ship over it weeks ago. Maybe they know something we don't (and I work for the Empire, they tell us nowt)

Sorry it's Pleione 3 not 4. My error.

Here is where I am that seems to be consistentaly causing a crash on a UP deploy, 0.38Ls away on currently lit side :

uc

But yes I definitely think it's a possibility, some specific code path that only runs here is executing and causing the crash?

There could be other reasons of course, my UP could just be fubarred somehow.

I would ask someone else to try Pleione 3, but if you do record it with a camera or something so you get video in case of a crash.

A while ago (like 200 pages ago, I extracted the left and right sides of the spectrogram and tried overlaying them on the centre. Unfortunately, the post seemed to have gotten buried in the mod queue for new posters :/

Here it is again:

I posted before, but it was quickly overlooked - can someone with a clear image like that above confirm that the verticals are binary or morse encoded?

The wheel on the inside of the UA is a 'speculation wheel'. A wheel designed to provoke wild speculation.

I find the thing about the pods blowing up and being detached from the UA more interesting. It seems that we haven't tried everything, heating up a UA for example, maybe with engineered weapons, or dropping it near the exclusion perimeter of a hot star...

People were asking to test whether or not destroying a ua on a planet did anything, i can confirm it didn't do anything, including when the unknown fragment died. ( i did it on merope 5c )

Are you aware that the Unknown Fragements are the "pods"?

I have heated it in my ship to over 200%, dropped it close to hot stars and forced the cargo hatch to break due to heat. Nothing happens to it.

Others have fired heat weapons on the UA. No different than regular lazor.

The art book images are just consept art. It looks quite different to a real UA.
