The Star Citizen Thread v5

I've posted before about the concurrent preconceived idea that the Flight Model is M+KB biased but the flavour of the last builds tends heavily for HOTAS and more recently Double Joystick, KB+M just doesn't give the same level of precision to be able to achieve this kind of manoeuvring

Once again - that is simply Genuine Roberts thinking "Dual joystick - that'd be a cool idea! Implement it!" after seeing it done someplace else. Additions to the flight input mechanics are useless without the flight model and game engine being fit for purpose.

As for goons dominating in Star Citizen? Well I very much doubt it but I will love to see them try that's for sure.

If they did it in Eve they can do it here, unless you think CIG will somehow find a way to stop them

For a very brief while, twin stick and fixed weapons was indeed a formidable combination in SC Arena Commander. I used to go with a Logitech E 3D Pro on the right and a T16000m on the left. Things were still full of bad design and lag and all the many other issues, but that setup was about as close as you could get to competing against mouse and keyboard (all else being even). The real beast thogh, was using mouse and a CH Throttle. I really miss it back when it looked like things were going somewhere.

It was just some minor fixes due to some bugs with the Multi-Faction-Authenticator.

Word (well a spreadsheet so Excel) is that they altogether pledged around 1/4 of a million to Star Citizen since the kickstarter and that number might be even bigger by now so they sure did their part in bringing the project to fruition so we owe them that.

Gamescom showcase of new "things" is Friday so rest of the days seem more catered to people not familiar to the game, so nothing excited for the ones following the game since they seem to be only playing the old version. Even the same old bugs and glitch's get tiring right?

Just show us some of this please:

Think I'd rather look at this

You know, since it's where a game that's actually there and playable is moving towards. CIG has missed the boat, by a mile.

What? Dual joystick or several devices (pedals, joysticks, throttles etc) were always supported. It's not about additions to flight input, it's the continuous polishing of the flight model to make the best use of 6DOF in space.

Do you honestly think that Star Citizen gameplay compares with EVE in any way? Totally different skill set needed to "dominate" and I foresee a lot of bounty's on their heads :) I'm sure it will be a "blast" either way.

...

what made you think I was talking about skillsets? the goons have attitude and they have manpower. with those two things any group can dominate a game, and the goons have it in spades

also, bounties lol like that would stop them

Well I would say they have the same attitude and will as many other ORG's but: Less players, Less ships, Less playtime, Less experience, Less twitch skills.
Like I said, I will love to see them try that's for sure. Just keep on refunding :)

Can you lock your ship yet? I have zero confidence in CIG's ability to keep griefing, exploits or cheats under control, even if they do manage to deliver a working game.

You don't need twitch skills to crash into a ship on the landing pad or any of those other things. Also, now you're resting on pay-to-win as a defence, hilariously

you don't understand goon development.

Orlando: Are there any good guides to how dogfighting works in SC?
Had a quick Google but everything is like a year or more old. I'd like to see what strategy and tricks are involved (I'd try myself with the free flight but my rig ain't so good).

Regarding the CIG's GamesCon I have to say that stream CIG did last night (last night my time anyway) was pretty dull. The guy flying around in AC was kind of annoying as well (spoke a lot without saying anything).

On the size of the booth, I think CIG can't win. If they have a small booth everyone says "Haha, look how small it is". If they have a big booth everyone says "Backer's money well spent LOL!". Can't comment on the setup but the size looked about right for a niche game.

Eh, it's not so much the size of the booth as what they've done with it. There's no way for anyone just walking past to engage

Elite is twitch and skill based, and there are plenty of goons to fight in the game. So why don't you put your money where your mouth is instead of posturing here, where it's nice and safe?

Boom. Also, goons in Elite don't have as much of a reason to grief others as they would in Star Citizen. It would gain them endless satisfaction to repeatedly blow up the biggest ship some guy paid 30000 real dollars for till he ragequit

I don't think you really understand the mentality of a "Goon". They are there to disrupt the status quo. And SC is like EVE in one way, the use jump points to get to different sectors or star systems. If the goonies get control of those choke points with a fleet of cheap starter ships, it won't matter what you are flying. They'll just kamikaze right into you and not even care about the bounty on their heads. That's one thing EVE has over SC, no ramming. EVE requires time to train skills and loot/buy gear. SC requires little more than a ship and an ability to fly it into something. And when a goonie gets high in bounty he'll just die to a goon mate, thus fueling the goon swarm.

What makes this game so attractive to the masses is also it's greatest exploitable weakness.
