Not really on rails but yes, certainly a "script" behind the gameplay.

Not necessarily bad - you need a story and/or "vertical slice of functionality" in a demo like this but you need to see all this in normal play.

Yes - I get that. I still won't believe it till it's working live.

Then I will happily praise it. But given their track record - not before.

ETA - still you have to hand it to them - they've done enough to keep the DDs and standing orders going from the faithful - till citizencon at least...

It looked good - but there is such a gulf between the PTU now and this I won't believe it till I see it.

I am not a backer so that part I don't know - however I am wiser and like you will wait until Release 1.0 before making a decision .. I am in no rush, those 18 quintillion planets won't discover themselves ;)

I wonder how this "amazing" gameplay will sound when finally be in the hands of the backers and WORKING PROPERLY in a MMO scenario, while Elite DAngerous already will have walking on ships, planets, bases and all this crap, possibly for years already (next seasons) so as Mass Effect Andromeda (possibly 1 and 2, maybe 3 in the point that this SC thing be ready/stable/working) and even Call of Duty bringing many of these promised mechanics of Star Citizen/Squadron 42 in a much better and fun way to the fans of space games.

It sounds nice to show this stuff now to sell more JPEG's, to keep the whales hyped and financing them. But, obviously, due competitors, efficiency and focus of them, Star Citizen is basically screwed. It's going to get old very soon. Sooner than any possibility of these dreams of SC to realize (again, in a proper way, working, finished, and stable).

The end result here is SC backers paying too much, for something that others will deliver for less, faster and better.

This was their "scripted cgi gameplay live demo" in August 2015:

;)

Yeah, and even a year later people fall out of their ships at a slightest disturbance, they're t-posing, the character models stretch out, ships are still massless, there is no engineering console to be found anywhere on the ship, you can't board a ship by destroying parts of its hull. You have to be wilfully ignorant to believe CIG.

Why don't you post all their scripted star marine demos from that period that were weeks away from release? Is it because it's already in the game or because they make CR out to be the overpromising blowhard he's been since the kickstarter.

It's telling that he's gone from congratulating other space games to sneering at them. "a lot of talk about No Man's Sky" indeed. Not so friendly now that you're in third place. Instead of congratulating them like Braben did, tear em down and claim you can do it better despite not shipping a game since the 90s.

Deserved standing ovation. Knock it out of the park so congrats to all the LIVE players performing that demo. Just as expected, minds were blown.

A lot of scripted missions I sense. Do you always get double crossed at the end of that particular mission? If so, how many times would you choose to do it? Are they rendering all mission givers instructions at each instruction point? It looked like something that should begin a scripted S42 type game.

Looked pretty, as always, if still a bit janky.

Levski looked cool. Liked the atmosphere entry effect. No idea how that persistent/scripted mission giver will work in an MMO? Would you have 10 people lined up to speak to him? I have my doubts CIG can fill 100 systems with this type of mission giver.

I have no doubt that demo will have the desired effect ;)

It's not hard to fake any of that, mate, even less so when — as in this case — you don't even bother to hide the hard cuts between different scenes or the fact that the character moves without receiving input from the player.

The only mind-blowing thing is that people think this in any way represents something that will be delivered to the players.

Yeah it was, just like all their Gamescom presentations.
“Live” in the sense of “broadcast without delay”, sure. “Live” as in “real-time actual gameplay”, no.
