I really don't get why people are saying 'Oh no we want to wait for ship transfer'
immersion: your pilot has never left their seat. They will now be immersed in their own bodily secretions (in space no one can hear you poop).
Your pilot has never eaten anything yet remains alive.
Your ship blows up and you are instantly transported to the last station you were docked at minus some credits. Will you guys be asking for a delay on resurrection as your body is rebuilt/escape pod brought back to station (based on a distance from last station of course!)
Nobody likes waiting if they don't have to.
How far do people want to push out for fun for the sake of realism?
It's a game with strong sim elements. Both these elements need to be balanced. The waiting thing is unnecessary and adds nothing to the game play.
Just my thoughts.
My apologies if this post sounds snarky in anyway, I've stayed up to watch the stream after a 12.5hr night shift!

I personally think there should be some sort of delay... in reference to above quote, we are the pilot so if we get up while flying to a station (risky) or while docked (much safer) to go to the bathroom or grab a bite in between pilot actions, that is the pilot taking a break for such things... As far as the death and instant rebirth, it can be explained by consciousness. I assume that when you eject especially if it is due to cabin oxygen running out, it is eject in a stasis pod of some sort, so you are blacked out in a controlled coma, when you awaken, the first thing you see is the insurance paperwork and pay credits to have your ship back, then you are back in your ship ready to go. This type of waiting being cut out is for the betterment of the game, nobody wants immersion at the cost of having to watch their pilot waiting on a bench while the insurance paperwork is filed and the ship is rebuilt, but for the sake of balancing, I wouldn't have any issue with coming to a new system, finding that I like it here and want to move my base of operations and running some missions while my fleet arrives vs spending the next 3 days of gameplay ferrying ships back and forth. Even having the wait shortened by saying you have some super frame shift driven tugboat that can jump 100's of ly at a time is preferable to instant transfer... You are going to have an imbalance as people will be free to have a long range ship drag along an entire fleet of warships into systems they never would have spent the time going into, or worse, if they had taken the time they would have had to retool the ship and maybe some of those combat mods are unheard of in that system for that reason....

I like my magic bag, it means I can wheel out that hot dropping instapopping laserbopping sodapoppin' (yes, I went there) Anaconda wherever I please.

I mean, fuel stops in stations are instant, we already do FTL, so why not! MAGIC BAG SHIPS! THEY CAN BE REAL!

Yes they can - whether that improves the game remains to be seen.

Don't really care. Have so many ships all over the place and nothing to do with them.

However, it can affect certain parts of the game. Since income is so ridiculously easy in this game, it's gonna be use ASP to get far and then portal over the Trade conda.

After Engineers I treat -anything- as an improvement, if this means at some stage you can magic bag meta alloys about and avoid the pirates interdiction happy fun game, I'll take the MAGIC BAG EXPRESS please!

Has there been any FD comment regarding changing the fact that we cannot store ships with cargo embarked?

And there we have, in one clear and concise statement, why instant transfer is a spectacularly bad idea. Elite: Dangerous! The space trading simulation, now with added fun! Primarily due to the removal of the space bit!

Well done Fuzzy! ;)

No. I put the question in on the day 3 feed thread.

Man folk are never happy are they.

The reason for ship transfer is to enable players to participate in whatever activity they want to do without having a whole bunch of messing about.

So yeah let's make people wait. :(

No, not yet, but I'll work on the assumption that at some stage that will follow. I'm assuming that the instant transfer of ships is stateless, so they're likely looking at a way to manage stateless transfer of cargo, the easiest way to do that would be to bundle it with the ship you're transferring.

Yay to moving ships but it should take time for a ship to get where it needs to go.
By allowing instant transfers, it will stop players from having to use outfitting services. Why bother if I have a dedicated mining ship 100lys away I can gain access to in an instant?

It should take the time it would take a pilot to actually fly there. It wouldn't even need to be exact but seem real enough.

It would also make a mockery of how the game works.

Now that we can remote sell ships, will we be able to remote sell ships at the rebuy screen to liquidate assets to avoid losing a ship when flying about without rebuy?

A simple and logical solution to quick ship 'recall' is a swap. Depending on a set of realistic limiting factors, for a 1% fee you can sell you ship located in far flung locations and get the replacement at your current location.

This is at least a bit more believable.

So every station has every possible eng. mod and every ship on stock. Oh, if I knew about that before :).

Which would completely trivialise any rare trading or long distance smuggling - and piracy for that matter....

I was surprised by it, but I imagine it's a small thing to code in a wating time that's a multiple of the LY distance. So 1k Ly distance is a 15 minute wait.... and scale up from there?

The point of ship transfert is to remove potential gameplay barrier that would break people enjoyment of the game, because of time lost travelling back and forth.

Adding large delay is like nullifying the whole purpose of the feature, and i can't see the point of adding a small one... So keep it like that, and thank you Frontier.

Well they're trivializing ship to ship combat by virtue of allowing you to use your speedy taxi to get around and only get into the big heavy at the appropriate combat zone, so it's not THAT far fetched... ;)
