The Star Citizen Thread v5

It's much classier to just do good work and congratulate the competition. Like he used to pretend to do. But c'mon, it's obvious what was motivating those comments. Right before it he said something about "all that talk" about No Man's Sky.

Pure jealousy. Of course, maybe he was just citing the perceived competition to his fan-only hooting audience in a completely non-derogatory way which is absolutely hilarious considering how much of ED is in 3.0. Magic Germans have the ability to play other space sims, apparently.

It's probably better not to say anything really other than give them compliments.

Your better off being like Rolan in this thread. He posts news and items of interest and you know what it's better round here for it. You aren't going to change any minds round here with the majority being opposed to SC for their own reasons which often aren't fact based admittedly. This is the same as majority of your arguments they aren't fact based or tangible either they are opinion and based on your enjoyment of what you play. We are all glad you like it and believe in it. The majority here don't and see it as a project mismanaged and doomed to disappoint etc etc.

Better being like Rolan. Appreciate that guy we do.

Then why not dispense with the pretense of "discussing" Star Citizen and just call it "Star Citizen (echo chamber of the disenchanted and trolls)" or better yet "Star Citizen: SA Annex", because that's exactly what this thread is. What's the point of having a thread to discuss a game when all that is posted is trolling remarks and disenchanted exasperation. Seems better to just go over to SA

I don't see why you should be so down about this thread during CR's moment of triumph. Clearly things are full speed ahead and soon you'll have 3.0 this year and Squadron 42 will be released because open development surely would disclose whether or not it would come out as planned in 2016 and they wouldn't keep that disappointment waiting in the wings till the last minute because of "The Pledge" to treat all the backers as if we were publishers.

Then we notice CR's history with publishers, schedules, and how he treated anybody that put money into his projects. Oops. Still, everything works almost flawlessly on stage and there are three ship sales, so the next phase is just giving him what he wants so he can keep paying to have devs in crunch mode to create demos for shows.

Year six, that'll show all the naysayers! He's finally going to sweep into E3 with the next demo and be hailed a returning hero and given a key to the city and pronounced King of Hollywood by Mark Hamill in a ceremony attended only by the most loyal "Citizens" who pledged at least for "concierge" status. This of course will be a perfect time to announce more ship sales. Just at that moment when Wil Wheaton is tweeting asking to read the audiobook to his memoir, "Space Race: How My Vision Was Envisioned By Me, Chris Roberts"

I have a chart somewhere that proves games should be in development for at least eight years before the foundation of their networking is firmly established.

Anyway, the power of Wing Commander healed Ben Lesnick once. There's still time for the magic power of Chris Roberts to cure what ails us all! Personally, I'm hoping to lose lower back pain upon the release of Star Citizen.

So at the end of the day, 3.0 is scheduled to bring those core game mechanics that we've been clamoring for years... Trading, Piracy, etc.
That is way more important than being able to land on planets, but ok. Trading implies a market system with production and demand, piracy implies a criminal penalty system, and so forth. Those are quite substantial and potentially complex parts. December is just 4 months away. This doesn't sound realistic, but we shall see.

Because there is no pretence; because it's an actual discussion; because it's not the SC echo chamber that the r/sc and the RSI forums offer. This is apparently very scary for some parties in the discussion — in particular those who hare so eager to label as “troll” anything that does not conform to their prerequisite level of praise for the game.

What you're describing is why going to any of the official forums is so utterly pointless: because no actual discussion is allowed there, regardless of pretence.

IDK, seems like many others have curated demos of unreleased games too. I guess they too are all fake as well....

Nah man, you can't hold small publishers like Ubisoft or EA to the same standards as CIG, anything produced by CIG has to be absolutely perfect in every single aspect even while in development. 500+ employees, $120 million and 5 if not 6 years in and they have bugs while in development? Unacceptable.

Not all solutions are acceptable by everyone.

Agreed, i would even say it's impossible to please everyone.

Yeah, neither Sony nor Ubisoft would ever show anything that wasn't an accurate representation of the final product.

This makes it even harder for the critics to explain why this game should be a scam.

I don't think anyone is saying it should be scam.

That would be tantamount to to encouraging scams!

Which is probably illegal - or at the very least not terribly nice!

Of course traditionally we do have to acknowledge at this point that maybe, we just don't understand scams..

Is there any difference here though? I mean I've posted some fairly reasonable explanations but because I'm not critical of the game and/or the company, I get labeled as a cultist. Tell me, how is that different than the RSI forums or /r/starcitizen subreddit?

Additionally, all I see is a bunch of illogical statements about how "fake" the presentation was or trollishly over-exaggerated comments. I'm all for criticism but at least have some unbiased evidence to support them!

We all saw the same stuff.

How about you prove it wasn't fake?
