It's different because you're allowed to actually be part of the conversation as long as you remain reasonable. People actually read what you write and take it into consideration. If they think you're wrong, they offer up evidence to prove you wrong.
You get labelled a cultist when you adamantly refuse to even entertain the notion that something Chris has said might not be entirely true, in spite of his long history of saying things that are not entirely true.
There is nothing illogical, trollish, or over-exaggerated about them, though, as the unbiased evidence to support them demonstrates. It's exactly this behaviour that raises the “cultist” flag: the refusal to actually read and consider what is being said.
Nope - the burden of proof is on CIG/RSI - they are claiming it with no independent verification - and you, along with everyone else are simply commenting on videos you've seen - just like us.
When it's in game and anyone can see it, prove it, for themselves - then we can determine it's veracity. Until then it's hearsay - nothing more.
What makes it in any way ridiculous?
Same as on the official forums even more so on reddit, it might not fit your narrative that most will have differing opinions on these boards, but you're free to state your opinion as long as it's reasonable.

Because they were obviously playing it live. Come on... Why is this even a discussion...? There's several bugs, fails, etc. in the live footage and you can see the guys playing it live with controllers...

Neither side is going to change the other's mind. Either it was all in a live engine, with "freedom" for anything to happen and they pulled off a full seamless vertical slice. Or, it was a pre-recorded, programmed demo with a script which they had rehearsed.
There is very little grey between the two camps. Anyone know if 2.6 will be Evocatii? I recall there was some initial talk from CiG that 2.5 was so good they expected it to go to general release very quickly...
I want SC to be a game, I even want it to come out soon... Not for me to play. For all the hardworking coders and devs and artists putting in a shift and also for people that want to play it (however noble or ignoble their motivations).
My cyni / skepticism is based around the fact that whatever they reveal at shows is always "soon" and it appear to be in front of a hand-picked, supportive audience.
It will be interesting to see if this time the loop plays out differently.

No, you really aren't because the standards of what is accepted as “reasonable” are themselves not reasonable.
Everything has to be couched with a long spiel about how you really love the game and the company; any hint of a suggestion that they're not delivering something unprecedented; anything that is not established canon as far as being some kind of acceptable flaw is shouted down, downvoted, and subjected to ridicule and accusations of dereksmartery.
Actual honest discussion is dead. On the official forums, and even more so on reddit.

They can show off absolutely anything they like. Presenting that stuff as in-game, however, and it not being in-game, leads to a slightly whiffy Colonial Marines motif.

Basically - it's anything you haven't witnessed yourself. So - when you - and I - see the same video - we can only give evidence as to what we have seen. A video.
Our opinions as to how that video came to be are inadmissible as evidence because we didn't witness how the videos were made as they were being made.
Therefore we cannot give any admissible evidence as to their authenticity.
Look it up if you don't believe me.
