In a less literal sense, it's actually also a pretty accurate answer to the question. Completely devoid of any useful detail, of course, but still accurate. :)

Hey! I'm under contract to post puerile silliness to keep the thread from exploding and people getting banned. I don't do FACTS and DETAILS! Weirdly I've got an interview with the CiG marketing department next week.

for me it was a pretty shock to see all those transitions (port olisar --> planet ---> starfarer wreck ---> planet)
completely seamless.

what do you think about this ? isn't amazing ?

not really, I was more impressed that in 1999 I could run from one end of Dereth to the other without having to go through some kind of instance portal to load the next "map" or area. Something that SC is going to have to connect systems.

No loading screens, everything wil be seamless and with "gameplay" mechanics attached:

Nah. It's pretty much to be expected these days from this genre and other games have been doing it for years — commonly with some proper meaning attached to it rather than just as an empty transition between actual gameplay.

It was pretty impressive in 1993, though, and in 2002…

In other words, they're going to use some kind of instance portal to load the next "map" or area. They may attach some kind of gamified distraction to hide the loading process, but that has yet to be seen.

It's true, changing the exponent shouldn't affect relative precision. I would have though issues with downscaling would introduce problems only because the underlying engine isn't designed to run at such length scales, not explicitly because of precision. But I say this only from a computational science point of view, I have no experience with game programming.

Yes because flying for days would make it for wonderful gaming experience...[rolleyes]
Besides we can already fly to any location in Crusader system without using quantum jumps, people reported flying for 8 hours just to reach a Com Array lol
Moons, Asteroids, Space Stations, Com Arrays all exist in the map without needing a prior loading (besides the one when you log into the game ofc).

I must admit that this Gamescom demo looked pretty awesome. Sure it was directed and played in controlled environment but nonetheless they seem to be making noticeable progress in all fields.

As has always been the case with me, I'll hold my conclusions until something is delivered.

I can't be convinced by presentations, Powerpoint slides and tightly controlled demos, anymore. I've been fooled before and have already backed the game.

This all looks very promising and exciting, but so did everything when I backed and expected a finished game to play in a few months.

They're loaded in on the fly as needed, the same way every game dealing with these scales does it. This is nothing new or fancy. Morrowind did the same thing in 2002. You don't load it all in at once at the start of the game because that would be stupid and wasteful and serve no purpose whatsoever.
