That's an obvious concession to gameplay. Waiting while you are dead means you simply cannot play. Waiting for a ship to arrive does not hinder gameplay because you can still go about your business doing whatever you like. There is a clear difference here and I know you are smart enough to understand this.

Yes and instant transfer is also a concession to gameplay.

All it means is instead of making 20 jumps in my fdl (for the record I don't own an fdl) I can make 10 in my whatever (official ship yet to be released during season 9) to the location of a community goal. I still have to undock travel to the community goal and fulfill all the required objectives.

You'd be forgiven for thinking that the moment 2.2 drops everyone is gonna sell their ships and have one fast jump ship and one combat ready ship. I can't speak for anyone but myself but I intend to fly the same ships I do now.

Ohh yes... I can see A LOT of gameplay surrounding realtime ship transfering; such as protection/escorting (different levels of NPCs that you can choose from when you hire; the cheapest one might get into trouble). No fuelscoop? Well, then fuelrat your own ship. Lots of fun gameplay to have from a fleshed out realtime transfer.

And, again, it focuses on your ability to plan ahead and understand the brilliant galaxy DB has created... "Did I equip that ship with a fuelscoop, does it have the FSD required to get there..."

Remote ship outfitting would be great/needed though... and also... any station that you have visited, you can transfer the ship to, as long as the landingpads avaliable are supported by the shipsize. The service shouldn't be tied to stations; it should be a part of the computer you have in your ship...

Many ideas, but all in vain, I guess. :)

Like 75% of the DDF...

You're assuming that the cost plus the delay would still be worth abusing to shortcut the jump range ecosystem, and exploit the transfer mechanic. If it's priced right, and the delay is at least as long as the travel time (longer since it's being flown by a flunky), then most sane people will opt to fly the ship they want where they want it!

So.... let me get this straight. You want ship transfer implemented in a way that nobody will use it.

Then why implement it at all?

--- BTW: I very much welcome instant ship transfer. It will allow me to fly more ships, and more options in daily BGS work, and give me another 30-40 mins easily each day I can spend on useful activity, rather than having to make a bunch of jumps to home to pick up another ship, and jump again to get to where I wanted to be in the first place.

I once did 35 jumps to Bjorti for a wild card CG. That's equivalent to more than 1000 LY in my Asp. I have considered just Asp somewhere and re-buy a ship and copy my existing loadout, then sell it again when I return. This mechanic saves me from having to do that.

Sorry, but that's a false equivalent and an invalid argument, assuming you aren't being serious, of course.

This would be like assuming that everyone who wants instantaneous ship transfer wants everything instantaneously in the game.

At the end of the day, the game does still have to be viable.

No you've just conveniently tried to invalidate what he said.

One of the chief arguments against it is how it's immersion breaking (might not be your argument and I don't really care either way) but people conveniently are able to turn off their immersion meter when it comes to ship destruction.

Those people should accept that certain mechanics are in the game because its just that a game and not real life.

It's funny that you think there will be a "season 9".

At the rate they are eroding the core ethos of the game it'll be lucky to get past season 3.

Yes, I've PM'd Brett about this one, because I feel at this stage the volunteer mods are playing a non-neutral side on this, and it may be about time the staff called time on it.

The other thread, with all the options on the poll, makes it quite diffuse... This one has two options; for Instant or against it. Therefore, this thread should stay.

Some people should understand that some other people like playing games and doing different things in games for different reasons that make sense to them and provide them with enjoyment.

Should be pretty obvious... Just because you have a preference doesn't mean it is more important than other people's preferences and how they want to and have been thus far able to enjoy this game.

No. In fact it is the removal of gameplay. Again, the two issues are not comparable for the aforementioned reasons. In the case of player death (ship destruction/escape pod to last port of call) if there was a timer then the player simply cannot play. This is clearly not the case with a timer placed to represent the journey that is so conveniently taken for you when you call your other ships to a different dock. That frees you up to continue playing while the transfer is done in your stead. I know you can be reasonable, please make an effort to do so here.

Thanks for agreeing with me.

You'll go far.

One thing you seam to have in common with FD... ;)

I dare say they have a better sense of where the game is going now and in the future than a bunch of people who spit the dummy at every little announcement.

Jesus christ they're adding ship launch fighters and many quality of life improvements and all people seem focused on here is the fact they won't have to wait for a ship to transfer.

The thing is, a timed ship transfer would be massively more convenient than what we have now, which is no ship transfer. Especially if it can be ordered remotely. You just order the ship ahead of you, 90% of the time unless you're trying something crazy it'll be there by the time you arrive. How is that not good enough? Why do we have to make the transfers instant and wreck all the gameplay that has been built with travel time as a core factor up to this point? Why do we have to actively screw over Zachary Hudson?

If you truly believe that, then you haven't been listening very well. By the way, a lot of us who are complaining now have never complained before. We are largely not the "spit the dummy" posters.

If I want to for example do a combat community goal 200ly from where I am I could travel there in my fast jump ship then transfer my combat capable vessel to the require location (provide there are no restrictions such as lack of a shipyard/landing pad size).

That all still takes time to get to the actual gameplay that I want to be playing, Nothing instantaneous about that, It simply saves me having to make many additional jumps.

Wrong - people are concerned about consistency and balance. This game was originally pitched and sold on a strong fantasy: A vast, hard scifie, "scientifically accurate" galaxy sandbox with MMORPG elements, where the commander and their ship are the focus... if you erode that, you are changing the core philosophy. Simple as that...

What that also does is nullify any of the balancing mechanics of your combat ship. Quite simply, its travel restrictions (a core element of the games balancing design) is 100% thrown in the bin. If that's the case, then why have different ships bother with different jump ranges in the first place?

Scientifically accurate fantasy sci-fi game.

So basically flying into a sun will kill me but I can instantly spawn back at a station with my ship scorch mark free.

This is a better poll... for the non-instant side who sees the wide disagreement on how long the ship transfer should take, and wants to hide this fact.

Yes delay, as long as it would take for your ship to get loaded on a bulk carrier and travel to the destination, thats keeps immersion intact and removes the need for stupid stuff like printing ships, when i call my ship i want my one not some printed clone.

Nice try OP but i fear this stuff is falling on deaf ears.
