The Star Citizen Thread v5

Guess you didn't get the context, the "Star Citizen: So... something It's something" and their variations is a running ironic joke here. It's humour.
When the conspiracy theory's started emerging I made some funny phrases using that gag with irony. For example, Star Citizen: Presentation So Good It's Fake [up]

Just forum humour [big grin]

No, you still don't get it. Using quotes isn't part of the joke, because nobody actually said that specific version of the joke.

Maybe I just don't understand refactored joke development, or is that "refactored joke development"?

I guess if it's not mocking Star Citizen it doesn't count as humour [rolleyes]

Whooooosh

You took this long spiel to pretend that everyone was saying something no one was saying, and then when called out on it you backtracked like CRAZY, and quoted me saying something that wasn't even mocking

Well done dude

Well done

I don't think anybody is mocking Star Citizen itself. It's a space game that many people here backed and would like to play. A lot of work has gone into it. The developers have done some genuinely nice stuff.

What mostly gets ribbed are the outrageous claims from CIG's leadership and some of their more "enthusiastic" backers - and that's mostly because what they have said is genuinely outrageously hilarious, and quite far removed from any recogniseable basis in reality.

And it's mostly tongue-in-cheek or banter. There isn't any real venomous stuff about SC - there's no need for that kind of thing.

We must be reading different forums then [big grin]

Nope, just reading it from different perspectives. One from the realistic angle, and one from the emotionally invested "it's so great despite all of the actual evidence to the contrary in every playable version of the game as of yet and all of the demoed items that have NOT come to fruition" angle that you are coming from.

There is a lot of disdain for all of the failures, absolutely - anyone who isn't agitated over this mess isn't paying attention.

Also, using triggers and shortcuts and not actually simulating things - such as the fact they changed how the triggers worked for the space doors but they still don't matter since you can glitch through in your underpants shows that FIDELITY is not something they are striving for. They are just aiming at something that may work, kind of like how Bethesda has trains become extensions of a player character's arm. Or was it a hat? Who cares, that is a shortcut and that is exactly what CGI/RSI/CR are pulling and THAT IS NOT FIDELITY.

This wanton criticizing creates a perception that doesn't foster healthy discussion because the theme is that CIG is wrong and will fail instead of a more balanced could fail.
Wanton criticism... yeah, sure. It's completely unwarranted.

Here's 2.5 btw:

I believe that CIG will fail. How wanton!!!!!!!!

Could be wrong~ but if I am, I'll be too busy playing it to care. I think that'd be enough of a victory for CIG.

Follow-on, does anyone know why they're getting rid of the HUDs in favour of the MFDs?

Correction: they used to have MFDs, now they move towards holographic HUDs like in Elite.

An MFD is a screen with buttons around the bezel. A HUS is a display that appears suspended in the air so you can keep your head up while reading it.

Anyone want to predict what the arguments in here will be about after citizencon? I think they will be:

Why the not in the currently released build demo shown proves that the star citizen alpha is better than the elite alpha.

You can't make a complex flight system like star citizen's in less than 5 years because another game from 20 years ago didn't.

The delay is okay because of fidelity.

It was totally worth paying mark hamill for a day just to mocap him on the toilet.

Post citizen-con argument will be about the annual new mo-cap studio being built in Moldova. Half will claim it's because of the excellent wine's and high speed internet, the rest will hatch a conspiracy theory about Moldova lacking a US extradition treaty.

The noodle-man effect will be revealed to be a space-virus caught from unhygienic vending machines.

I just watched an interview where Roberts basically confirmed Star Citizen PayToWin, making statements that demonstrate how difficult will be to get ships in game, how bigger ships will give access to more profitable missions and basically encouraging people to buy ships now for real dollars.
In one side, it does not matter because all this game dreamed, playable capital ships, fleets etc, never will see the light of the day. In other, it shows that even the vision wants to motivate cash grabbing now.
CR showing once again, how he lied at the beginning and for years to thousands of people.

Those people will not care...its just a small detail nothing on the scale of a droped feature in ED when they had to drop offline mode...you remember that storm damn. SC change to a P2W model is nothing compared to that.

Can confirm. MassivelyOP reported on their $120 million, article had ~300 comments with lots of discussion about whales, CIG business practices etc, lots and lots of defending and deriding going on. New article about buying ships which give you a significant head start has 40 comments or so with only a couple of comments from the faithful...

It doesn't affect them because they already have their ships so they just don't care, which is extremely short-sighted in my opinion.
