The Formidine Rift Expedition 3302

Looking at this image from Interview 4 https://c2.staticflickr.com/9/8332/29146395065_931d3470b9_c.jpg, we can see the Heart & Soul nebulaes against one another with the Heart in front. That would mean that the video with the "Unknown Alien Entity" (UAE) is taken from the left of the H&S nebulae when looking coreward and quite probably also within the square that the expedition is scanning! A clue perhaps?

Can we make the assumption that this is a b star? Or do you think this cloud might be them running 2.2 and this is actually a neutron with gas emissions?

Actually, are you even sure that's the two overlaid? I'm finding it hard to picture an orientation and position that would arrange the two like that.

Not sure if this has been posted yet: the amount of kills needed to reach Elite in Elite 1(?) is 6400, and every 256 kills the message, "Right on, Commander" would pop up. This has led me on a wild goose chase along the edge of the EAFOTS sector, searching systems 6400+:256:Y. Only found one ammonia world close to the RR line, with nothing special. Finding a lot of ammonia gas giants that I've been bookmarking. Just wanted to let this thread know what I've been doing independently.

Don't know if relevant, but I came across an Unidentified Signal Source in EAFOTS MH-M D7-4 Degraded Emissions Detected (Threat 0).

Found Large Survey Data Cache. Hung about for a bit but nothing further found or detected.

Returned to SC flew about for a bit but no further signals detected.

On to nxt system.

FYI. The vast majority of systems visited so far have had main star discovered and the rest cherry picked.

I don't have any info on which Conflux region is referenced, but if I had to guess I'd say its the one I've marked on the map below. The other Conflux region is a long way from Hawking's Gap and the Formidine Rift, so probably not the one mentioned.

Just signed up for the expedition and will be making my way out there beginning this evening. I was reading through all of this and was wondering if there's and validity to exploring these two area or if I should just head for the rift.

Haven't signed up...I'm a bit of a loner, but I'm in the heart nebula now and heading in a zig zag sorta direction. I'll play in open and who knows ^^

Drew Wagar gave DJTruthsayer an interview yesterday which was quite interesting. A recording is available here.

Naturally the Formidine Rift was an important topic again - which makes it an important source of clues for our expedition. At one point he said, that "it is not necessarily a system" we should look for and he repeated the older hint that "one needs to look from the right angle to see it".

This might imply that while searching the EAFOTS area it is important to look at the skybox and watch out for constellations, view the features (nebulae, star-cluster) from different angles. I am not sure if this will then ultimately point to a single system but it is quite improbable that it is just a beautiful view what the Empire and others want to hide from us.

So, while going on with the subsector search, please keep your eyes open for interesting / odd features in space. It might have become less important to scan bodies in the systems and look at the descriptions.

I've asked on another thread fer any sortof ideas as to what I'm looking for, but even after reading through a multitude of comments and guides, I have a feeling I'll never get a definitive answer.

So anyway...got to the Eafots sector last night and I'll give it a few days before moving on, while making sure I'm extra vigilant for whatever. I'm not registered in any events or a part of any groups and I know you lot are sticking to designated areas, so what areas are they so I know where not to go? No point searching over areas which are already searched and this is a fairly big sector.

I've been trying to do this while searching subsector 7,2,0. Particularly looking towards the galactic core through/between the H&S nebulae. But it's so easy to interpret every eye-catching asterism as an arrow shape pointing to .... nothing in particular

I may have something to post about that tonight, but I've been going along your same line of thought.

I'm headed towards a constellation myself that seems near eafots, I'm just hoping my jump range can keep up as trying to aim for it in each system has been pretty tedious (seriously wish they would could enable a secondary destination marker for final jump location)

In his keynote speech at a recent conference, Karl Devene, head of the Federal Astrocartography Department, warned would-be explorers of the dangers of venturing into the void: "While there are some very well-organised expeditions, many are poorly prepared and have no goals beyond pursuing ridiculous myths echoing back from the edge of inhabited space. It is dangerous and irresponsible to venture into uncharted areas without proper discipline." "What we need is sound astrocartographic data – not a bunch of amateurs traipsing all over the place and making a complete mess of the whole situation." "I will be making deputations to various authorities to curtail these activities and leave exploration in the hands of the professionals." "If humanity finds itself in a first-contact position, do we really want some grubby, ill-prepared spacer to be our envoy? I think not."

So it turns out I was heading down to the Perseus constellation, which happens to be underneath EAFOTS. It's a Greek link to the Pleiades, and there's a star cluster in the general direction of the Pleiades that you can see from Perseus. But it looks like a few CMDRs have scoped this place out already, and nothing seems to match the general conditions of previous barnacle planets.

There's more clues that narrow it down to certain systems in EAFOTS. Lone explorer here, don't know who Raxxia's children are, but I'll post anything special I might find.

Sounds like he's trying to "spell it out." I wonder if the stars form the word "RAXXLA" from a certain angle? (Say, when looking towards the galactic core.)

Roster updated.

There's a roster? Sorry, wasn't aware...I'm one of the amateur lone wolves stomping around all over the place ^^

Edit...never worry, I'm actually about a thousand ly away from all 4 waypoints...gotta see the funny side of that.
