From the distance, but once you get a hang of it, you see how brilliant the milking mechanism is.
Don't think CIG isn't taking notes on this ;)

Well the things is that World of Warship is kind of enjoyable game when it comes to the game mechanics and let´s not forget that game is balanced by tier so even if you driving Yamato or any HI tier you are not going to fight Vs tier 1 which is not going to be the case in the SC where you will be able to smash to pieces litlle aurora with your constellation.......

“The way that works is that the artist can create biomes, which are templates for different areas. So you can have a template for woodland forests, or a temple for jungle, or grass land, or mountains and even within in those you can have several variations. Then you paint the big area, you basically say ‘this area is mountainous, this is woodland, and this is where the ocean is’, and then the procedural code takes that and uses that as a guide to place the biomes correctly and alter the height map. In two hours they can generate a planet and then they can spend time tweaking areas by hand.”

Congratualations Mr Roberts, you've finally worked out how Procedural Generation has been used in games for decades... groundbreaking stuff.

Delightfull read indeed, some bold statements... These quotes are especially exciting

“We are using the procedural generation to create the undulation in the terrain or determine the distribution of trees or rocks and we are using that to fill out large areas, but the areas are specified by an artist,” says Roberts. “The way that works is that the artist can create biomes, which are templates for different areas. And

“We still have some work to do on the V2 procedural tech, but it is going to be awesome because it will allow us to really craft things with character,” explains Roberts. “It can be to the level that you might see in Star Wars Battlefront, say like the moon with the little Ewoks on [the Forest Moon of Endor], we can craft areas with that level of detail with the new tech. It's going to look super cool and realistic when it's done.”

Must be saving those for a Citizencon.

I have to ask, why do you think what basically boils down to "We're using bog standard procedural generation techniques to create terrain that have been used by other games for decades" in any way exciting?

Now we can compare all that has been happening in the last 4 years and now the statements in this interview with one of the earlier statements from Chris Roberts:

http://www.pcauthority.com.au/Featu...oberts-on-why-pay-to-win-8220sucks8221.aspx/4

Chris: ... What I don’t like is sort of the zinger-style gameplay that hampers your experience to force you to basically encourage you to pay money. So I think that sucks. So I don’t want that

By the way, the interview has other cool statements:

Atomic: That’s awesome. One final question. Is there going to be LAN and mod support for this game?

Chris: Yeah, definitely LAN and mod support. Hopefully, we’re going to hit the $4-million here on the initial goals, which will have modding tools at the very beginning. If we don’t, we’ll be adding modding tools down the road because it’s a big thing that I want to do. Like, we’re building all our internal tools with the mind that they will become tools for the community. And then we’re going to let you host your own sort of server if you want. That should be able to… even over the internet, people can group up but probably should be LAN, too.

Because its done by the gaming GOD CR.....

Indeed. I wonder how will mr. Roberts balance that out.
Probably by saying "well, it's a brutal universe, you should team up with bigger ships then."

Those people will not care...its just a small detail nothing on the scale of a droped feature in ED when they had to drop offline mode...you remember that storm damn. SC change to a P2W model is nothing compared to that.

P2W + dropped coop mode of Squadron 42 + dropped Private Servers/mod tools from the beginning (possibly forever) + delayed Star Marine for more than an year + delayed the full game so far for two years (possibly delayed forever with most of the features hyped by Roberts becoming vaporware, or presented as done in refund request answers but released ridiculously barebones/broken, as the game is today) + dropped some hyped earlier game modes years ago like "Capture the Capital Ship" (Where's it?) + "boarding module" with boarding mechanics ship-to-ship, instead just EVA (where's it?)... and so on.

P2W issues/concerns were pretty much the biggest thread in the RSI forums for years, in their General section. But that was before the "concern" cave.

But if by "those people" you mean the people who have been working to defend RSI online no matter what. Yes, they care. They just won't make that public and will defend RSI and will pretend that don't care in public. Because in the first place, they assumed this position of defending RSI as if that was their job. Many of them, which you usually will find in the forums in the internet, actually openly stated that many times, in some conversations between themselves. They even created some threads in their forums, asking for advice and help in how to "silence" the criticism.
They really think that accepting/applauding everything that RSI made and not making them accountable for anything is "supporting Star Citizen". They can't see that they are shooting in their own foot.

To be honest after spending several hours in the 2.5 PU, I'm not that worried about "P2W". I've noticed that there this no linear progression of better ships in game, like ED. The goal doesn't seem to be just buy the biggest ship.

I got an Avenger a smaller fighter/cargo ship and went head to head with a Connie and later a Freelancer both medium/large ships. Neither could land a hit. Without a fleshed out crew and fighter support they are pretty much sitting ducks from the games standpoint. I also did not have the patience to take down either of their shields so it kinda just became a draw.

Repair cost and fuel costs are also a bit more for those ships.

I can't help but note that CR spends almost all his time telling us how great or even better things are going to be.

I'd really like to start hearing how the various cornerstone components are done and finalised.

Sorry, I know I'm a decent number of months early for that wish.

You do realize that 2.5 neither has the final prices, nor any of the gameplay elements other than the handful of missions and combat? CR himself said that the prices of things in the game are not representative in the PTU

But it does have combat so boring that you won't be bothered with it.

He basically enjoys spitting noise while overcompensating for lack of progress. Everyone knows someone who is constantly bigging themselves up, constantly bragging about real/fake achievements etc, harmless in itself but when it's being used as a wallet loosening catalyst it eventually leads to distrust and anger, always.

It's one of the most glaring points of distinction when you stack CR against DB, purely measuring up their 'talk' and their 'deliverables'. what's clear from what I've seen is that when DB says something he follows it through and delivers a product that generally matches or exceeds expectations, when CR says something, you could put money on it being over-exaggeration or his own imagination running riot, which leads to no/late delivery and dissapointing end products.

More like CIG/RSI is a few years late.

Well unless they significantly update multicrew ships to be able to out maneuver fighters by the time the game ever gets released, I don't see anyone killing me with one of those things solo. If they did then I would truly be concerned about P2W.

I actually quite like the combat.

I recently downloaded the Stars Citizen Alpha and spent hours just EVAing out of my ship and repairing/turning on Comm Arrays. Then I randomly saved some guy who's ship blew up next to the station. This seemingly very simple game play mechanic gave me everything I felt I had been missing in Elite.... a person could physically board my vessel and wasn't just some text or picture...

The level of detail in this game already is mind boggling.... I haven't had this much fun with an unfinished product or space game in general since the X series.

While Elite is a cool space sim that I absolutely loved in the Oculus I just never felt attached to it.... this is where Elite has fallen short.

When Elite ever finally has space legs there will be no real reason to get up because all functions trade/mining can be done from the seat. Having it be some contrived expansion that the core of the game can do without is probably Elites greatest mistake...
Welcome.

You got an Avenger and beat bigger ships. Nice. But the owner of the bigger ship can make more money than you in different ways and buy a boosted Avenger faster than you and having a quick revenge. How he achieved this advantage? Real dollars.
