UAs, Barnacles and other mysteries Thread 8 - The Canonn

Dillon said: "I visited a rocky planet at latitude 34 near binary pulsars" and Kohl said "One of my friends always lies. The system has a single Class-M star". As Dillon is probably lying about the system having binary pulsars, let's instead assume the system has a single class-M star.

Now, we've previously received a clue about the explorer (Dillon): "The explorer was last seen in system Pic Tok". Why mention that system name in the clues unless it's important? Turns out that Pic Tok happens to have an M-class star and a single rocky planet. Perhaps that planet warrants a closer look at latitude 34.

Interesting... someone should take a look at latitude 34 it seems...

I suppose a good argument in favor of M-class is we're not *supposed* to find it yet, which is why they gave us the most common star in the galaxy (if the search space was too narrow we'd find it too fast). So they deliberately made the first couple of hints so generic that we're extremely unlikely to find the system they're talking about until we get more clues to narrow it down.

Edit: Pic Tok being the system sounds plausible too, since it (like many other systems in the area) does fit the bill, and *is* one place that we know for sure Dillon has visited. But that raises the question of, what if the coordinate is also a lie, and if so what are the real coordinates?

No, not at all, this is exactly was I was expecting, and I love it. Just that the current game state is forcing me to spectate and not participate. I've been saying to lower the expectations for two or three days now, but even nailing it I can't enjoy it.

Then you Sir, are much wiser than most of the rest of us.
I hoped so much, that "this" would be a kind of turning point in the overall gameplay experience of Elite. It kind of is, sadly in the opposite direction.

The 'latitude 34' in Dillon's message...

Is it talking about the coordinate on the planet or the system in galactic coordinates?

I've been to the nearby planets 34 <> and 34 ^^ and 34 \/ but I didn't bump into anyone. The bounty boards are filled with massengatae, so I'm not going there lol

Nice recap.
But we know that Granger hangs around Apademak, and that a Cobra will arrive at 21:00.
So we can still get him ;) Where? Well...

Well the actual clue is "Granger doesn't carry cargo - he hangs around apedemak". The dash is a special ASCII character. It's inclusion is telling. I don't think the two sentences are referring to the same person. I think that's why Dillon was found hanging around apedemak and not found in Pic Tok. That said, do we have any confirmation of what ship Dillon was flying?

Nice thought, Ill have a brief check around that latitude

The climate on this thread has changed. I blame Al Gore and Michael Brookes. This is all a giant Federal conspiracy and we know it! Rizal72 knows that the barnacles on Uranus are Thargoids! That's why he's developing a soothing ointment to sell to the (m)asses! Don't buy it, though, it will turn your Asp yellow! The Ancient Aliens are humans! Soylent Green is people, but only people with bad taste! Someone said Kohl was a red herring, but I didn't listen to them because I'm hard of herring. Yoda and a Thargoid a bar walk into. Han Solo is the bartender and shoots the Thargoid first. No, wait! The Thargoid shoots first.

This is the last time I purposely wake up at 4:30 a.m. for a video game.

Ok, so I have a theory. Probably one that's been thought of but the speed this thread moves at you'd need 3 sets of eyes to keep up. Ayways:

Kohl (Red Trader - Carries Fish): M class star and one friend always lies.

Dillon (Yellow Asp): Rocky Planet at Latitude 34, Binary Pulsars

Granger (Cobra): Unknown as of yet.

Maybe this is all the info so far, maybe not but it is all that is needed for this idea. Kohl is a double bluff.

A lot of people suggested Kohl is a Red Herring (Red Trader, Fish). So if that's the case, HE is the liar and we sould disregard the M class star. Naturally this will have to wait until 2100 for confirmation but it's food for thought?

Please don't think I'm singling you out Luke but I'm at breaking point with the number of times I see this now. This is what your post looks like to people who use the 'Frontier' theme:

Please people, leave your font setting on 'default' because it automatically adapts to all of the different themes. Thanks.
