UAs, Barnacles and other mysteries Thread 8 - The Canonn

Yes, this. What the hell were people expecting?! They literally said "The hunt starts at the 28th". Starts. As in, it won't conclude untill later. So yeah, the culmination of this hunt will very probably coincide with the release of 2.2.
Seriously, anybody that expected MAJOR THRGOIDS APOCALYPSE N STUFF today really should get a grip. I hear people being disappointed, referring to the shots of alien ships interrupting Braben's interview. It only stands to reason adding major game assets like that would only take place
in a major update, i.e. when 2.2 drops.
I don't know about you guys, but I had fun today just following this thread and all the tinfoil theories, watching some Twitch streams of people that were on site, and just the general buzz surrounding all of this.
Come 2.2, I think more spectacular events will be waiting and I for one am fine with that.

OK, i understand you. I dont know excactly what i was expecting, but after that much hype, done by FD themselves, i would have hoped for at least a little bit more than just another kind of "riddle" , and after that the next, and after that the next.
It's fun once or twice, but we already did this a few times over the course of the last few days. It's getting old by now. And after those Video-Interferences during the Braben Interviews, something innovative, would have been nice.

And don't get me started on the general execution of this by FD. I was on and of the game for the majority of 13 hours today. Did not encounter anything related. Thanks for nothing.

That's it at least for me. Following this thread, or even just refreshing first page of this thread is much more informative and entertaining, than everything i experienced today in game.
Sorry to say so, but that's the truth (at least for me).

Good night, CMDR's .

So you had fun doing things that didn't involve actually playing the game? While that may be entertaining, I think that says quite a bit about the current state of ED.

I was playing the game in fact, I just wasn't in the systems this was taking place in. I hadn't anticipated anything more spectacular happening then NPC's or FDev controlled CMDRS dropping hints. With 2.2 pretty much around the corner, and without any patch or update today, did you really think alien ships or something else completely new
asset-wise would have shown up today?
Again, the only thing FDev put out there to build up somewhat of a hype was the "The Hunt starts at the 28th"-message. Please, correct me if I'm wrong and I missed something, but that was the only communication from FDev as far as I know. Now we as a community hooked up quite the hypetrain loaded with expectations to that, but in the end, all they said was a hunt was to start today. And it did. Now I do expect more spectacular revelations when this hunt reaches its climax, but that will probably be when 2.2 hits.

Now that the day is concluded my final thoughts are;

- The endgame of this mystery is still exciting, given that it appears to be alien-related. Or, at the very least, an unusual incident.
- The execution, for me however, is bad for two reasons;

First reason - It's boring. I thought it was going to be a case of having to follow a ship through a series of jumps to be lead to a unique USS or POI that we could scan for the next part of the puzzle. Instead it is 3 fetch quests.

Second reason - 3 fetch quests that you could only really see if you had the right instancing. Now I don't mind not being 'the guy' that meets these people. I get that it is community focused and not individual focused. But due to the instancing, this felt like an event that was only happening to 'Some' players. We're all in an 'open' universe but only 'some' people truly got the 'chance'. This is the reason some people feel like their day was 'wasted'.

---

Overall though I do approve of the interactivity from FD with its player base. That is only a good thing. I just feel like there is room for improvement.

I'm trying to be fair with criticism. I'm happy to see where it goes and keep following it, but my gameplay time will be spent levelling engineers before 2.2 I think.

I can agree with this. While I am excited for the endgame, today felt like a wast, aside from the small CMDR interaction.

This is the hunt FDev hyped up with that Gamescom stuff? I mean, yikes... this is tedious, boring, and we can't even tell what's real because of the inclusion of Commanders. Can we get some developer feedback on whether or not these "contacts" are the right people? If they are, why does it feel like they're perpetually stalling?

So, is this the end of the thread? Is Thread 9 started yet?

Thread 9 isn't needed. They upped the backend maximum number of posts per thread to some ludicrous amount.

Have fun with solving the riddle by ferrying goods to please the hintgivers.
Not a task i delight in. Feels like wasted time, though the SC instance was quite stable for me.
Maybe this all was done to test massive player count in single systems and test the infrastructure more,
than to actually give us hints towards something "special".

Back to pirating poor little transports then.

Ok, sat in Lave with a few T of Brandy. Am I just going to sell it at Scott Orbital or wait and see if something pops up?

Wait i think this is going to be a CG... I interdicted Granger and he said that they will let us know how to deliver the payment later. so thanks for the waste of time FD you did it again :) .

Ok all, back at Scott, 4T of Lavian Brandy sold... nothing. Wasn't really expecting it, seems like it'll be a phase two (booo) but FYI. Apademak a ghost town - only one player in open in my instance...

I was just looking at their names myself. I think you may have stopped a bit too soon...

Mahina is indeed a Hawaiian name, meaning 'Moon' (and it's a girl's name so come on folks, let's get the pronouns right; it is the 34th century after all)

Logan is derived from the Gaelic 'lagan' which is a diminutive of 'lag' which means... hollow.

So, thus far we have HOLLOW and MOON.

*tinfoil intensifies*

So, I've checked Otto - it' is, and I again quite our most favourite soruce, "short form of Old High German compound names beginning with the element ōt ‎(“riches”), such as Ottokar and Otmar."

So now we have HOLLOW MOON WEALTH.

*much tinfoil*

They should have made you set today up using a piece of paper and a pencil would have been more fun than this FD hype text cg advertisement..............

Whether or not three new CGs merits debating about excitement, I was in game from 0600 (in-game time), to almost 2200 hours now... and not once did I catch a glimpse of any of the special contacts, despite going to all the right places. I am frazzled from spending 16 hours on a hunt that, for me personally, yielded a complete zero. No matter what the clues are or what we have to do next or how long it's going to pan out... I would like to actually participate please. 16 hours is a lot to put in to see nothing due to instancing. I'm glad other people found the clues and we're onto the next phase now, but I would've liked to have at least seen it, once, for myself. It's hard to stay motivated about the mystery when there's not even a whiff of 'discovery' excitement as payoff.
