Who will be the hero?

Question: Should Frontier consider having a hand crafted story mode to allow all players to uncover the 'story so far' so to speak?

As always keep it clean and have fun!

Ideally, yes. That would be great. good idea.

But not until they have done a hand crafted intro series of missions for players, which would be even more useful to new players.

I'd like to see effort put firstly into new player support. I don't need it, you don't need it, but a lot of new players would get use out of it.

Also I think they were only in Elite + if I recall

No: I did the supernova rescue on a 48k Spectrum, I recall.

This has been said before, but it would be fantastic if FD hooked up with Telltale games to do an wee interactive story game like Tales from the Borderlands. That'd be a great intro.

FD needs to get a chained mission engine ready.

A few sets of chained missions for harmless rank in the three key areas will get new players going.

Also, spend time on an Annual, aka yearbook, to use as a marketing tool for new players and as a thank you to existing players.

Community sourcing the content for the annual should be cost effective and can be in the format of a season recap video.

I love the fact that Elite does not have a story to push us along. Everything about us is what we make it. It truly is a story about us. I'm not a trader or a combat pilot because I did some story mission where I had to deliver whatever. I'm what I am because I chose to be, because my own story leads me to it. I am an explorer because I have a love of the unknown and want to know what is out there. Not because the game goaded me to it.

I love what Elite: Dangerous does. It's something soo many other games are scared to do because of the modern gamer being what they are. The story so far is years in the making. New pilots can even have been inspired to start flying because of the stories about what's going on in the world. Games are scared to be what Elite is and it gets allot of hate and flak because of it.

That is a really good idea. Hope someone at FD sees this! :)

I like where you're coming from on this. When you look at the threads like the UA story that have thousands of replies, it's a little daunting to get into. Whereas the summary video that Canonn made for Gamescom pretty much brought everything up to speed within a few minutes.

Indeed but with zero gameplay on my part. Why should this be more interesting (To me) than , say, any Game of Thrones episode. I mean, yeah, it's cool, but I didn't take any part in it. I might as well be watching TV.

Very interesting idea. And I´m all for it, should be really helpful to new players. However, a handcrafted story mode would cost a horrendous amount of time I fear.
Perhaps a section in the same screen where you have Galnet and the PP rankings, they could add a lore section? -for immersion sake it should be called 'history' of course.

I'd like some sort of way to quickly recap the games history.
Not a story mode game, but some sort of intro movie, or animation.

I currently have no idea what's happened or happening in the galaxy, because to find out, I need to read 483,382 galnet articles, or 193,293,294 separate forum threads. :D

I always thought it would be nice for galnet to have "The History of.." videos, with a short narrative, and they can be about the human race to date, the Federation, Empire, Alliance, Thargoids, UAs and all that stuff.

I wouldn't mind if they were basic graphic novel style, much like Guild Wars 2, or Homeworld.

Hey You`ve got a point... I do not have much time for playing the game, so when I am playing, most of the time I ignore galnet and rather do my stuff. If my NPC pilot was doing the tedious jumping, I would read into the depth of the story much more :)

Fly safe, run hard Karlos
