The Star Citizen Thread v5

Well for an outsider it really seems like some overly emotional attachment is in place, an extremely negative one we might say.

The decision to keep reading / posting in a thread of a game they don't seem to like at all. Or even consider worthy of the attention it gets from the people that like to play it and like to support it is entirely from the person own will. Posting videos and material related with Star Citizen, it's trailers, video-show's, gameplay, it's mechanics, performance, issues etc is the very reason these kind of threads exist, skimming over to other game's threads one finds the same related game thread trailers, gameplay, screenshots, debates and so on. For example, I don't find EvE compelling at all, I tried to get into it as I loved the brute sci-fi setting and idea of building a space empire, but as it turned out it wasn't for me and I understood that, yet I'm not in the EvE threads constantly pointing out people that post news about it or re-posting it's "flaws"repeatedly ad-nauseam or blaming the company for them. Same with NMS and a bunch of other games. I moved on to focus on the things I like. That's why I post about Star Citizen. Because I like Star Citizen. As others do. If people have a problem with that, well, it's their problem not mine. [big grin]

Outsider? Ok, that's a slightly incorrect assumption that I can correct you with now, although I'm pretty sure I have done before. I have $125 in CIG, that makes me an 'insider', I am in a small way, partly responsible for those Clowns taking people for granted and the current state of play, and I regret being so as I have made very few mistakes regarding money and trust during my reasonably long and otherwise very content life.

I am definitely extremely negative of CIG, both with my level of trust in them, and my complete and utter disdain for cults or any description of group hypnosis/hysteria and any other entity that takes advantage of any person for any reason, they are usually easy to spot as they all use the same tactic of embedding cheap sales tactics in their videos, "Small packets of information burried in vast swathes of nonsense/white noise/repetition/sales ads" in all of their advertising and practices, all RTV's are vast swathes of nonsense/repetition/sales ads with a very small amount of actual info.

The SC thread here is the same as any SC thread anywhere else on the internet except for RSI's own site, very few people are having 'fun' unless you count people like me ramming ships into others and laughing at their anger in the chat. That is literally the only fun bit of gameplay I've found, and I can only be build the enthusiasm to do that for maybe 20 minutes, once every 4 months. SC gets its flaws discussed a lot because;

1. It has so many, my god so very many.
2. It's massively late regardless of scope change, budget change etc, S42 is still exactly the same premise as just after KS so they've had time and money to get that done yet haven't as yet.
3. It's a huge manure storm of controversy over just about everything that would see any other company closed by sensible people long before now.
4. It has alost zero 'fun' gameplay unless you enjoy glitches, bugs, problems, 30gb patches, constant issues, Cryengine 3 in a broken form and constantly being sold things that you would never be dumb enough to buy.
5. It's headed by a man who um's and ah's his way through pre prepared scripts and just says 'yes' to everything without the foresight of monetary, chronologic, technical and engineering debt.
6. Neopotism running rife in the most enjoyably 'in your face' fashion known to man since the invention of frilly knickers.
7. CIG selling assets four years ago that still have no design, no greybox, nothing, but here, buy a hoodie, buy a mug, buy an arm patch, buy a mouse mat, buy just about anything that isn't a game.
8. Heck I could list at least another 20 bullet points of reasons just off the top of my head why people might be a little bit fudged off with how their money has been spent, or how they have been strung along for years but I want to go play BF1 and there's a 30,000+ word article on gameranx that does the hard work for me.

The spoilers covering up the tat are much appreciated though fella, I don't mean to give you a hard time over these things but my god do I question your critical thinking skills sometimes.

Well I've posted several times because for several times now people keep saying things like "there is no real gameplay" and "it's a buggy mess without anything fun to do".

Since that streamer videos proves booth points wrong and serves as a great example of unadulterated live & raw footage of Star Citizen and the fun people can have playing it. So if people keep asking for gameplay or "proof" of someone having fun with the game I'll keep posting it as it's the current most recent and straightforward example I can find. ;)

Dude what are you talking about what FUN? what game play?......After so many spams by you and some other ppl. I download the 2.5 and checked by myself....It is just plain rubbish as it was always been...What exactly is FUN to do?Visit new shops?Walking&dancing?Shill&twitch in the cockpit?Only fun part was countless funny bugs that you can encounter......

Oh shucks, you're right! I should fix it to be more inline with the narrative here. Nope, guess y'all should go back to bashing a buggy/crashy/unfun game and make circle-jerk comments as usual.

Is that better?

If it's a buggy/crashy/unfun pre-pre-pre Alpha - then the only people who can fix that are CIG themselves.

Outsider? <words>

Outsider, like someone just looking to these pages to know more about Star Citizen and it's development, people that haven't backed, played or even posted in the thread. When they read some of the vitriol posted here they might wonder "Did Chris Roberts stole their lunch money or what?" ;)

As for the reality of Star Citizen in other forums, it's quite different from here I must say:

Just for some quick examples... there's a lot more that's for sure.

As for people not having fun with the game, well not every game is for everyone but honestly I think Chris Roberts as struck gold once again:

His vision is very much adored by a lot of people, the acceptance of some of is questionable design choices are telling. Hence such a constant increase of both players and revenue ofc. 2016 is going to be their best year and I'm sure that after CitizenCon and the 3.0 update hordes of mainstream gamers will follow.

Let's put on our critical thinking hats for one moment....

Let's talk about Elite's space legs. It's an often talked about feature that FD has yet to implement, that is because the process of having people move around on a ship in space then add the multi-player aspect to it creates many variables.

If it were so easy they would have implemented it in the release or the following season. As the game currently stands, if you want more than a camera floating about in a cockpit there will need to be such a rework to the games core that you might as well call it a different game.

Can someone point to me another space game currently out that allows me to load up as many people as I can physically fit barring pc performance, fly out to do a mission, board another ship if I so please and act as commander or crew at a whim....

I will throw money at what would allow me to do that, as will many other people.... to the tune of 122 million lol....

The thing is, all that I described can already be done in the alpha state. No one has released a workable product even close to what I've described.

I really want to hear the rebuttal as to how the game SC is creating and parts that are already out "how it has been done before", "nothing new there", etc. Please I beg you to point in the direction of a game that currently does the above described and I'll buy it today.

Empyrion Galactic Survival and Angels Fall First

Well I've posted plenty of footage as other's did. It seems everything just gets ignored for the sake of "keeping the negative narrative going" hehe:

https://www.twitch.tv/cyanideplaysgames/profile

So there it is, again, some streams of hours long sessions in Star Citizen Alpha. With noobs playing, bugs, glitches but most important: FUN, people having genuine FUN moments with the "little" the game already offers. Just read the chat while your at it, most viewers in the first streams don't even know the game and are enjoying just watching it and getting to know more about it.

I'm happy for them, I don't share in their enthusiasm for the game currently though. I'm also not going to cut a video of me not having fun with it either.

When I do start having fun I'll be sure to make that known.

One day hopefully.

Great, two of those links crashed my browser. Obviously top notch sites.

Crobblers has stolen my lunch money, he'd be the first person to manage such a feat but I do feel robbed, luckily for me I can use the power of the legal defenses to get it back at any time before delivery if I so wish. For all those 'undecided' people who come to this thread to find info on SC, keep your money, don't buy until they actually release something worthy of money that has higher value than that found in monopoly boxes. People don't come here to be impressed with all the non existant tat, they don't come here because someones posting vids constantly of the same thing over and over, they come here for peoples opinion, and my opinion is that SC is complete junk at the moment and shows no signs of ever changing.

Are you attempting to recruit people to part with their money for something that does not exist? Dazzling them with sizzle reels to show them "one day, no idea when, the game might look a little bit like this"? To what end does it benefit you in any way shape or form to do such a thing? When it all fails, or they release an mvp that is woefully short of any sizzle reel representation, do you really think people are going to be happy that you kept pushing the shiny vids over and over? I have literally no agenda but stating my view, urging caution so people don't spend years waiting for something they bought in case it turns out to be completely rubbish, how exactly can I be faulted for that?

You obsess over the game, great, good for you, but you seem to make the assumption that everyone else should be doing so too. That's a bad train of thought that at best makes you look a bit daft, and at worst sees you as just another "not very covert at all" CIG marketing drone. Take a good long look at some of the posts that "fans" of SC are writting in any article that doesn't immediately drop to its knees and kiss CR's boots, there's death threats to quadraplegics, legal threats because a website pokes fun at a game dev, veiled threats of (frankly pathetic) intimidation, threats of actual bodily violence, hero worshiping those who spend $30K+ as if encouraging others to do the same, it's a cesspool of madness and broken minds. All over a stupid video game.

CR has struck gold, he's going to come out of it a very wealthy man, his misses too (does the work of 6 people, still has time to go running off to make bad films and do reality TV amusingly, hopefully not taking a CIG salary while doing so but I would be surprised) the gold they have struck is coming out of backers pockets and they are the only people to have benefited from any of this so far. Even if you think the tech demo/pre-alpha is fun, is it really worth the full price of a released AAA game? The videos can be watch and "open development" (lol) enjoyed for free you know, no need at all to be funneling more money or praises at them until they release it.

Also "His vision is very much adored by a lot of people", fair enough, but most of us who threw money at his mush are expecting a game not a dumb mirage, I personally don't care if he claimed he saw Santaclaus stealing all the chocolates from my kids advent calendars in one of his visions, he's not a prophet, he's not a sage, and he's definitely not a wizard, so unless he gives people something a bit more realistic and concrete than a poorly executed "um, ah, so, erm" speech about the hazy images in his imagination then people are going to be a little bit annoyed after four years. What questionable design choices? Every single thing in the alpha is as generic and grey and dull and done so many times before and better by others, nothing stands out, its angels fall first with shiney graphics and 7/8's of the gameplay removed. Take the graphics away and it's as hollow and empty as a 90 year old sterile, catheter dragging, allergic to water when mixed with soap, multi millionaires much younger and attractive ex wifes cruel soulless black heart after she has sacrificed new borns to the temple of Nargash, the destoyer of souls (Nargash is one of my goldfish, he's pure unrelenting evil, I swear he eats cats).

Disclaimer : As always, no anger was used in this post and if you read it in an angry tone then you're missing the point (I'm a consumer who hasn't seen good stewardship of my money from CIG since 2012), I'm as honest as possible and if I become dubious of any business or think people should bide their time before parting with their money, then I say so. I belive hype is the mortal enemy of common sense and good judgement, and for all of my 'style' of posting, all I ever say is "Be carefull with your money, no one ever feels good for being robbed no matter the circumstances or intentions" and "don't celebrate or convince others to join until it's done", both things are fair I think.

The weird thing is how it's by no means limited to Star Citizen fanatics, it seems to have absolutely exploded this year. NMS was an obvious example, with pre-release fanaticism followed by an almost equally brutal post-release backlash (take note, CIG), but reveal a delay to a game, or a yet-to-be-announced console, and a ridiculous number of people seem to think that the acceptable, reasonable response is abuse or threats of violence or death. Anonymously, of course. I'll give it to the fanatics that take it upon themselves to come here like Roberts' personal missionaries to convert the heretics, at least they tend to rely on more passive methods like circular arguments, pedantry and/or blissful ignorance.

OMG have you seen Elite Dangerous 2.2? It's coming out REAL SOON now! And it's probably the FIRST game EVER to have ships that can launch out of other ships! And the fidelity is so amazing, it's better than anything out there. Jeeze you are playing game X, Y or Z? That's really pathetic, I mean how could they ever hope to compete? And Frontier is totally an indie developer not tied to any one publisher, so they are in a unique position to make the best game ever, no outside pressure, man!

BTW use referral code #123WTFBBQ to get a free ingame cupholder! ($25 value)

*proceeds to register on another game forum to post the same*

THIS is what people like me are annoyed by. I'm not saying that you guys are doing this, or at least not all the time, or not as obnoxiously (even though sometimes you do sound like a broken record and/or claim SC did something first when it didn't ;) )

But the above is a common occurrence on the internet now - people essentially hawking SC, sometimes in completely unrelated games forums, sometimes starting with "This may seen a little offtopic, but there's a game you might be interested in".

It's things like these that make SC look like a cult, and the people who engage in such actions like Jehovah's Witnesses. Now, there are some very enthusiastic posts about ED around, I give you that - but usually the common message is that yes, ED is not perfect and no it's probably not for everyone, but it's still a very special game.

SC? That's basically the Messiah of PC Gaming and it'll surely obliterate anything that came out before, and anything that will come out after. We saw the same posts about NMS with raging fanboys not just distorting facts, but sending death threats. We've seen death threats from SC fans against people in wheelchairs.

You guys are in desperate need to distance yourself from these toxic people. And you need to acknowledge some facts and not bend them to your whim just to make them fit the SC narrative.

I'd post links but I'm afraid the the people who put up the linked information themselves may later claim that actually posting a hyperlink constitutes doxing. You see what I mean?

Focus on the GAME. Talk about its issues. Don't just accept what the developer says because quite often they are talking smack. And I don't just mean CiG, I include Frontier in this as well. Elite is a great game but if something's rotten we gotta talk about it. Star Citizen looks like it could eventually become an amazing game but we have to talk about the bad points so they get fixed. And like it or not, their project management needs fixing, badly. And no amount of uttering "you just don't understand XYZ" will change that fact.

It seems to be related to be related to excessive hype either allowed to get out of hand or encouraged to get out of hand. NMS was bad but SC is a lot more hyped and the explosion if it fails will match that.

ED on the other hand wasn't over-hyped and the angriest people with FDEV (other than gordo and the like) are those who thought they were buying EVE with a cockpit and found they were just a pilot who couldn't lord it over other players and a set of systems. This never really gained much traction as the game was never hyped as including it, the issue arose from wishful thinking by people who didn't research the game and who wanted certain game mechanics (that FD when asked had said no to).

Oh please... I could find many proofs of grown up people who love to get their diapers changed by late night streetworking ladies dressed like SS officers. That won't let me teach you you should like this kind of practice.

Lets remind that we're not in a RSI/CIG forum, and we're in one of the few places where we can talk freely about our concerns. We don't need evangelism. We don't want you to change your mind as you changing ours.

You and your buddies don't like what we write? Just feel free to go somewhere else. Don't lose your time around here.o

Seriously.. people saying there's nothing to do in Elite then post videos like that of things to "do" in SC?

Is this joking/trolling or something?

What bugs me is that that you came in this forum, in this specific thread knowing what was the general tone, maybe because of it, probably not for Elite in the first place. As if our vocal dissonance could hurt the development of The Messiah.

I barely talk about SC elsewhere from here, I stopped arguing where general tone is different than mine, I never expressed my concerns in RSI forums, nor even lose time evangelize about ED over there.

Sometimes I wish we all agree to say amen to all Orlandos and their buddies so they can finally leave with the satisfaction of job well done

We don't like SC, we don't frequent SC forums. Novel notion, isn't it?

I don't post anywhere else about SC. Gave up on the official forums years ago and I wouldn't touch reddit with someone else's barge pole. Don't post on Twitter/Facebook or any of the other options.

Some of the stuff here just seems entirely bogus - it's either flat out marketing or some kind of reputation management stuff. It just doesn't come across as natural genuine posting.

Often it is the presentation, not the message. When Rolan posts, people generally thank him for the news. I might be wrong but I don't recall many, if any sniping contests at Rolan?

Other posters who are pro-SC, you can tell from reading their posts that they craft them to try and provoke a response. The deliberate overlaying of lavish praise for miniscule events. The smarm, the damning with faint praise of other games, the asymmetric comparisons, the deliberate grand-standing.

Not to say some of the anti, or "post-pro" SC posters don't indulge too. There are sliding scales at both ends of the spectrum.

And then you get that guy recently that is out there like Pluto... to the point where Ben Parry had to tell him he was getting a bit too enthusiastic with his assertions about SC.

Edit: toned down hyperbole a tad
