Would you turn up for a supernova?

You are correct using the physics we use in real life but in game I'm able to detect weapons fire and determine a threat level for a USS from 200 Ls away while in SC. No reason I can't be in SC and detect a supernova from a similar distance even though the photons are getting further behind me.

200Ls away while in SC, what is the contradiction here? Did you ever notice that you only detect signals that appear in front of you? This means you are heading toward those photons. Not away.

There are many examples of gamey physics in ED regarding light and speed, this however isn't really one of them. (Apart from the the ability to SC itself of course).

I would not only go to that, but I would configure my cargo hatch to dump bottles of champagne so we could have a Supernova party and get smashed in a spirit of "we are all going to die from this, so let's get methed!"

I can picture that glorious moment now. And FD should give every ship ejector seats so we can fire ourselves into it.

Oh man, you are just trying to ruin my fun, I want to watch a supernova explode in my face!

Nah, I don't really care.

Since we FTL everywhere it would be weird from a relative POV. I supposed it would need to be trivialized in some way.

I think the most likely outcome is that the supernova event would be random. Some unlucky commander would drop into the system, start scanning the star while moving at 30 km/s, see the implosion and resultant explosion with the ejecta flying at them at some 1000s of km/s and get vaporized!

With Patch 2.2 and passenger missions it could be a great opportunity for a CG - an imminent nova and we have to transport as many citizens away from the system as possible.

I imagine one cmdr saying 'omg it's starting' and another cmdr a few light days away saying '    why can't I see it?

Attend an Anticipated supernova- Hell YEAH!!!

Could this be brought into plausible existence by means of a galnet article giving an approximate date and time for the implostion as calculated by professor blahdeblah. Attendance could then be signed up for by means of a CG. Near the actual time of impl/explosion a "Mission Critical Message" could advise you that scientists have notices critical readings in the star and believe the supernova process has begun to advise you to get over there in the next to see the fireworks.

Now that would be something to witness! Cockpit tinting optional!!! I can only imagine the sound the audio guys come up with. Not sure I'd want to be responsible for coming up with one of the sounds for creation itself in action...

Might need an exclusion zone though... Although, what a way to go!
Not sure FD support would relish THAT many tickets demanding reinstatement of ships if people were in system... Some can't deal with interdictions, let alone a supernova :D

That is what I mean with trivialized. Supernovas while not "that" rare of an event do not happen so often either. Some gamey aspect would need to happen to make it viable.
