Oh, God... you're right. FD would never want more of that!

You are correct using the physics we use in real life but in game I'm able to detect weapons fire and determine a threat level for a USS from 200 Ls away while in SC. No reason I can't be in SC and detect a supernova from a similar distance even though the photons are getting further behind me.
I would not only go to that, but I would configure my cargo hatch to dump bottles of champagne so we could have a Supernova party and get smashed in a spirit of "we are all going to die from this, so let's get methed!"
200Ls away while in SC, what is the contradiction here? Did you ever notice that you only detect signals that appear in front of you? This means you are heading toward those photons. Not away.
There are many examples of gamey physics in ED regarding light and speed, this however isn't really one of them. (Apart from the the ability to SC itself of course).
Oh man, you are just trying to ruin my fun, I want to watch a supernova explode in my face!
Since we FTL everywhere it would be weird from a relative POV. I supposed it would need to be trivialized in some way.
With Patch 2.2 and passenger missions it could be a great opportunity for a CG - an imminent nova and we have to transport as many citizens away from the system as possible.

Nah, I don't really care.
What's stopping you? A rebuy? I'd be there with ya. Death, schmeath.
I imagine one cmdr saying 'omg it's starting' and another cmdr a few light days away saying 'What does this mean, can't connect to the match making server' ?
I think the most likely outcome is that the supernova event would be random. Some unlucky commander would drop into the system, start scanning the star while moving at 30 km/s, see the implosion and resultant explosion with the ejecta flying at them at some 1000s of km/s and get vaporized!
