The Star Citizen Thread v5

Generally the bit where "Alpha" = "Awesome playable game" seems to be the bit that doesn't get understood.

Not just an awesome playable game Ian, but the best game - a refinement nay a "redefine-ment" of the genre of Space, the platform of PC and the medium of gaming.

It's going to break so many records and win so many awards, the internet is going to crash. It's going to make CiG more powerful than Microsoft and Facebook, by wiping the floor with those low fidelity 90's titles like COD Infinite Warfare and Mass Effect Andromeda.

The above is sarcasm for anyone wondering - however I've pieced it together from some of the best claims made from some of the posters here in the last 30 pages.

I have to say, Infinite Warfare looks like a game I would love to pick up in the bargain bin sometime (I never pay full price for COD games). Will be the first COD game I've bought since Modern Warfare (which I picked up for a fiver).

By that I mean, it looks pretty good. I honestly don't see how SQ42 can match it, whether it releases this year or in 10 years. Infinite Warfare is coming out with a pedigree that dwarfs most of the largest studios in gaming, iterating on a tried and tested formula and is well known for it's ability to tell a story using a cinematic style. The same style that gaming apparently has never seen before and is groundbreaking.

I hope this thread is still going when SQ42 is released, as I can't wait for us to make the comparisons.

Who on earth is saying that??

Oh wait, nevermind. I didn't realise we'd gone into full speculation mode. I'll come back when reality returns ;) :p

It is funny to look back and remember that as I correctly predicted SQ42 was released in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, <insert as applicable>, was not released, was the most hilarious catastrophe in all of video games is currently still in development

I have been playing a bit. If you guys want to fleet up you can hop in on my Discord server and we can organise a Freelancer Multi Crew!

Hi Mr Nowak, nice to see you back posting.
Question for you: Do you know where are the SC server datacenter(s) are currently located? And are there any currently in the UK/EU?

People can have fun goofing around inside their ship instead of needing to read a manual to get a degree in desktop commanding.

Never trust "people" to know anything of what they want
"People" can have fun goofing about inside their ship, yet want skill based mining, skill based repair, skill and knowledge based hydroponic shipborne farming, skill and knowledge based first aid, and so forth
Not like people wont be writing and reading wikis on "how to" for any of that in game
All the experimentation, trail and error and research that is indicated with the Endeavour in its farming and pharmaceautical gameplay
Sounds like "people" will need to read the manual there to have fun too
and if you feel that reading a manual is like getting a degree there might be issues, as far as I recall the Questar heavy cruiser was an easy ship to learn the ropes with, though that same lack of a fighter compliment to successfully pull off a landing of troops without getting shot down.

Then again "People" decry repetition and sameness in PG games over hand crafted content, are the same "people" who are happy to enjoy doing the exact same ICC probe missions, and Covalex shipping hub, with its two possible outcomes, day after day on a stream.

Both the Gamescom & Citizencon 2015 Star Citizen footage is now available to play in a much better shape and with more content.

Uh, no. Gamescom 2015 had the big Star Marine demo, remember?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u08-SWS01iY

Are you playing that exciting Star Marine right now? The one we'd have in weeks, not months? Are you playing it now in much better shape and with more content?

No?

I suppose you could take the "it's already in the game" angle like petulant Mr. Roberts did when annoyed about it.

Citizens are very fond of saying so. That and that the current featureless jankfest has more gameplay and content than entire AAA titles (or even triple-AAA titles… although who it is that supposedly releases those nonuple-A games is very much a mystery).

Not new. It's been in the game files forever and a day. Someone only just found it, and managed to export it.

The hilarious thing is, this was created as part of one of their proof-of-concept demos. That was before they realized that the "engine" they were working with, couldn't possibly render that, let alone plonk players in there.

Hmmm...that's a real shame.

Haha it's all over your twitter meltdowns

Oh noes, another meltdown spotted. Get your fallout gear on, folks...its gonna be a bad one!

What part of "alpha" don't you get? Are you expecting to play "alpha" content bug free? Surely you must know by now that "alpha" means the game is in development and typically, it's Beta when they fix the bugs.

Bugs are fixed in Alpha...typically they are showstoppers, impediments to the achievement of specific requirements.

Oh man, another Questar fan! This warms my heart. One of my favorite cruisers of all time. With a good crew, you can make it to hell and back.

I wonder where this idea that fixing bugs in alpha wasn't a thing came from. Altho certainly mgmt can exert pressure not to do too much of it or get bogged down, it's best to get things done early when it's a) cheaper b) easier c) doesn't have piles of additional code strewn on top d) or later bugs that make things even more confusing to determine what's causing what.

Is the Roberts Rapid Response Squad going to pretend it's easier to implement additional complicated features on top of incredibly buggy code? Do they think they can honestly play the "you don't understand game development" card when babbling such patent nonsense? I mean, they have a damn series called Bugsmashers. Presumably it isn't recorded in the future during beta.

Wow, it really is a revolution. In stupidity.

That video is almost 3 years old.

So is most of the videos detailing how things in Star Citizen is "supposed to work". 3 years old and statements made by key personnel at the time who have since left the project two years ago. We have very little in terms of updated in terms of a single collective updated information board. As I've stated else where every few weeks we'll see an old face pop into our TS who haven't been following progress. They see "Squadron 42 releasing this year" and then say: "You guys ready to team up and play through it when it releases?" Only to have to be told that drop in/out coop has been removed from the feature list.

Laugh or cry, your choice.

"Just out of curiosity, what about their business plan is it that you despise? I'm admittedly not impartial here, but I can't remember a less annoying alternative in recent years.. most publishers will sell you all sorts of season passes and expansion packs and stuff packs for you to access all the content, whereas you only need to buy Star Citizen once to access everything."

Laugh. Definitely laugh.
