Subnautica

There is a module in the wreck of the Aurora which will let you dive to 300 in the Seamoth. In the engine room, in one of the consoles. It's pretty much essential I find, deep dives unnerve me.

Ohhh some of those upgrades also work on the exosuit too. You can take them out the Moth and drop em into the suit.

I found the moon pool fragments by the way. If anyone doesn't want to know where they are look away now.

They are due south west of the floating island in a wreck about 250-280 meters deep. A biter or two will be there

Don't you think this game is the sub-aquatic variation of No Man's Sky & what it should have been....

Kind of, but it is a tough comparison. Everything in Subnautica is hand-crafted...so that is why the creatures look more believable. I will say the art style is similar, though.

However, the only thing randomly generated each time you play is the exact location of your life-pod. There are a handful of locations in the shallows you can start in...my last one had me right next to the kelp forest and the red grass. Great for collecting resources but my life pod always has sharks circling it.

Finally figured out you could catch fish ... water & food problem solved.

Also noticed some interesting "habits" - where I spawned there are some long snouted fish that agro and attack you ... they seem to be collectomaniacs - taking all the metal fragments :D

LOL...did you run out of nutrient bars and was like, "now what?"

Those are Stalkers. They will pick up any scrap metal and take them back to their lairs. They also lose teeth when they pick the metal up. If they aggro on you, you have a couple choices. With fins you'll be fast enough to just swim away so craft those early. If you have the knife, just strafe like it is a charging bull and slash it in the side. It will runaway like a scared dog (enough cuts and it will die). If you have fish handy, you can drop one in front of it and it will actually be friendly with you for a brief time. Taming them is good when you need to collect materials next to their nests.

EDIT..sorry not bone sharks...bone sharks are a lot scarier than Stalkers...updated

Yep. Sometimes they lose teeth when biting the metal. GRAB THOSE TEETH and store them if you can. Stalker Teeth are handy for making enamelled glass.

Addenum: I've heard they are tamable as well. You can apparently feed them peepers and they will become friendly to you, has anyone tried that yet?

Love this game, base building is good, but will be better fleshed i hope. I tried NMS, this game is similar but underwater not in space, and has far more depth to it, more things to do, better collecting mechanics, loving it so much i have over 100hrs already in 2wks of play. This game is early access, so much more to come too.

It calms them temporarily. They go back to being PITAs, eventually. Just got my PRAWN suit and have been eradicating their populations in the area surrounding my base :D

Not total extinction though, need those teeth

This game looks really cool! I've been watching a ton of videos on youtube and it looks really fun.
Am close to buying it but I'm scared it'll be unplayable like NMS is with my hardware :(

I have Win 7 64bit, 16gb ram, fx6300 cpu (3.6ghz with 6 cores) and a gtx 770 2gb.

you think I can play this with an 'ok' framerate @ 1600x900?

Addition:- just bought it and tried it. 7 fps lol.. I'll hit refund and pray they make a PS4 version one day, my aging 770 just can't cut modern games these days :(

Probably...the game isn't optimized so there are framerate issues is certain biomes and situations. Apparently motoring the Cyclops through the safe shallows used to kill framerates but that has been fixed.

Ofcourse, buying it on Steam you can return it within 2 hours of play.

I hope nobody minds if I bump this thread. I haven't fired up the new udpate, as I'm more wating for it to finally be released. But I'm curious if anyone has played the new update, and if so, what did you think of it?

The latest update is really seeing some major pieces come together.

Resources are pretty balanced now, you will have to dive deep for the stuff you gotta have (used to be able to get most stuff in the shallows). Fish now respawn, so you don't wreak ecological disaster upon arriving. There are wrecks to explore and a history to uncover in them.

There are some new biomes, like the lava biome, which is chock full of scary stuff and cool sights. Good luck finding it thought...it has only a few entrances that go very deep.

The precursors have made their appearance through bases and a giant honking gun that, apparently, shot down the Aurora.

Also, the new PRAWN suit is legit. You can add a grappling hook to it and it just becomes insane...try latching on to a leviathan and going for a ride! The exosuit also just about kills anything and is very satisfying to control.

There are a lot of other little improvements that really just make it feel more complete now. Anyway, it is looking great for December release!

Just picked this up after reading the enthusiastic comments and gave it a VR whirl, I'm having trouble with the controller support and mapping -- I can't seem to move forward or rotate, just using headlook which makes me tied up in knots rather quickly! I guess I should work out how to do it properly instead of just blundering into it but that method has worked reasonably well since the mid 80s!

I think the keybindings still need a bit of work. I know there were some recent changes to a couple things but, since I don't have an HMD :(, I'm not really up to speed on all that.

Doing a quick perusal of Google results...it seems they have a ways to go, yet. I'd think FPS would be one of the great issues.

http://forums.unknownworlds.com/discussion/143927/vr-controls - Appears to be some issues with implementationl

http://forums.unknownworlds.com/discussion/145255/any-word-on-vr-support-progress - Someone just posted this well written post...so maybe we'll get a dev response on that. I'd recommend signing up to the forum and keeping that thread active as most of the VR threads seem to die off after about 5 posts.

Yiss! I'll have to go check this out! The leviathon is terrifying enough! I hope they added more rooms to the ship. I spent an hour last night in it, just wandering around.
