I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Aww bless...

If you can't laugh at yourselves then who can you laugh at?

I'm all for self-deprecation, but that vid seemed like it was something darker. Maybe I mis-interpreted, I dunno... Just my 2 cents. :)

Yeah. Only problem is, now I have to top that with my video that's coming out this week.

You could do a 1:1 QA with a life size cut out of CR asking him questions while fawning over him and anytime he needs to answer have a recording play back "errr.... ahhmm" but have the life size cut out equipped with servo operated arms so he can wave his hands while answering.

Well, obviously its poking fun at the 'weird cult vibe' the SC community occassionally gives of. And when you then do a contest like this, its just asking for a parody. Maybe not the most enlightened thing to do, but its fun, and that without death threats...

It was just in poor taste. Was unclear if he was likening citizens to children or the mentally impaired.

Generally harmless, but gets a tiny, "meh" from me.

I think it takes things to a dark extreme to make a point (one which doing a toned-down video would not have made as poignantly).

I'm also not too keen on the "make homemade marketing videos for us" undercurrent of that specific RSI thread.

Meanwhile back on that thread - wonder how long it will last this time..

Hello, I believe your forum server or database experienced a small error or something, because the post of my video has disappeared. If it's okay I'd like to repost it, because I'd really love to be a part of Citizencon 2946, as I've got some fantastic ideas regarding spaceships and things that spaceships do.

Thanks!

There's definitely a bit of a simpleton thing going on but personally I saw it as mocking this type of video in general, whether that's a "I'm a Star Citizen fan" or "I'm a Guild Wars 2 fan" or whatever. These type of videos are always awkward, they always come across badly, they always make people look like they're far too emotionally invested and he did a great job in portraying that awkwardness.

So RSI mods are officially fudging the competition?

I'm fairly sure they wouldn't do something like that!

SPACESHIPSPACEMAN seemed like a standup guy if a little "out there" - it must have been an error - again!

"We reserve the right to invalidate any competition entry that isn't the person or persons that we wish to win the competition".

To be fair if it was milder nobody would have even noticed. I mean his competition are these guys

These guys have pretty much out done that video in craziness in my opinion.
My personal favorite is pico the peculiar,

to my surprise briguy turned out to be rather normal person, with rather high pitched voice.
Still waiting to see orlando and ban to pop up in that thread.
For some reason i think this was terrible idea for CIG. Almost each video just tells us that something is wrong with this project.
Heres a example where guy tells us how future scientist's will use star citizen for space travel research and thats why star citizen is great [???]

I was watching these videos to find out what kind of game fans are expecting.
Some are expecting ultra realistic space sim, while others were expecting modern day wing commander.
Some seem to know that its a dream and dont even dare to speculate what star citizen will be.
Some think its a thing that will fulfill their exact insanely scope crept dreams.
Some talk about the detailed mechanics that will be in finished game and how that makes star citizen great today.

Tldr:
nobody knows what star citizen will be and they are just trapped in forums because they have found somekind of community there that will accept any kind of weirdness. And removes anything that might hurt their beliefs.
(i would be okay with this if chris had not taken 120 millions to make it)

They should simply ask people to send the videos by email and only publicize those that weren't weird or made their community to appear like a bunch of retards and the company to appear as a business that is exactly willing to exploit people out of their medicines as their main source of income. Instead, they probably will promote that more and even consider the weirdest videos as "the best of our community" probably.

These are the guys that thought that calling "charity" to send video-games for US Soldiers that are fighting in other countries was a great idea for the first (and as far as I remember the only one) "charity" event that RSI (a company selling for consumers of different countries and beliefs/cultures) should make, after all.

But when you put Disco Lando, Ben Lesnick and Sandi Gardiner and fans of them, in charge of all that, this is not a notion that you should expect that they have... the notion of taking care of the image of the company of your public and making sure a long term future for the venture is not something that they are able to have.

They just look to the financial results of the moment and think that are doing the right thing, not noticing that are closing more and more doors in the market than opening with their attitude. They are like that bar that would sell alcohol without limits, no matter how the sick people manages to destroy the bar and ruin the fun of other people. In the medium/long term, nobody but the sick by alcohol will stay, creating problems and keeping the others away, and the bar will have a terrible image with the general public/potential customers.

You made some money earlier, easily, from people that you don't need to make too much effort to convince, but in the medium/long term, you killed your business or any ability to grow.

I don't know about you guys, but from my experience in the game industry I set this as the main reason why this project is doomed. A bigger issue than even the status of the development, because, in fact, with the right PR and marketing approach, the reality of their development couldn't be the issue that it actually is. So, congratulations to support the wife and Roberts and co., leading things that they never were capable to lead. They are so good as that drug dealer that makes a lot money in one year, but kills half of his customer base of overdose because is irresponsible when selling, not staying in the market for too long, and because of the deaths, calling more the attention of the cops. No doubt, while making money he thought that was doing the right thing and was in the right path. "Money calls" he thought. Dumb!

Harmless but still a bit funny... :D

I think the funny part is - We're just talking about interweb games here - some people take them FAR too seriously. I play games to relax when I get a bit of downtime. If they start taking over your life then you've really got to start looking at your priorities.

Much as I like ED - I'd never make a video to express my love for the game to the world, even if the devs did ask me nicely :D .

Oh, in that case I better go delete some videos on my Youtube account...

But seriously, a lot of those videos show some pretty off the wall bonkers individuals - I can't imagine these videos won't be made more public through an article on a game site and if they get out into the wild they will be horrendously mocked without any care.

$25K+ for a game that doesn't exist, and won't for years, is just not right in the head. It can't be compared to other hobbies, because other hobbies you have a product or something you get and have and can use if not immediately then at least in a few months instead this thing will be dragged out for years to get it even 15% complete.

Those videos are amazing. I had to keep looking over my shoulder in case my wife came in and asked me what the hell I was doing.

My guilty pleasure of the year: Watching Star Citizens.

Serious question time, something that has been on my mind.

Project your mind forward a few years (or however long) to the point where Star Citizen PU 1.0 is released. Don't worry about whether it will be an MVP or even with everything that was promised in kickstarter right down to working toilets where after going you can see a little bit of doo doo floating in the toilet water (because fidelity!)

Now, on this magic day, there are presumably going to be literally thousands upon thousands of players logging in. Now, let us assume the networking and servers remain stable and things work as hoped.

So, first off, and first question. Will people start at a relatively limited number of locations/bases? Or will the be spread around the 100+ systems?

Ok, let's assume the most spread out possible, so, perhaps a few thousand possible start locations? And evenly spread?

Now, that's going to be a lot of players in each instance right.

Second question: SC will use instancing to resolve networking issues with too many players in a single area? Or... they are hoping to get it so that potentially thousands of players can all be in the same instance?

Moving forward, loads of people on each station regardless. Some people, especially the whales, will already have got crew selected. With so many people....

Third question... if instancing, how will it ensure the whale and his crew will all be in the same instance? Will the whale even be able to launch his ship?

Which leads me now onto perhaps the main point. We have thousands of people at each station. Some of those with basic ships, some with bigger ships they bought. Those with cheap starter ships will probably be thinking "I'll have that!" and perhaps a group will band together to take a ship, perhaps multiple groups, each trying to steal the big ships.

Fourth question: How much of a mess is it going to be? The big ships are going to be prime targets for everyone. They will be totally mobbed won't they?

Ok, so, a person or group steals a ship, whale feeling a little annoyed by this turn of events.... but ok, they have lifetime insurance right? They summon in a replacement... only for that one to get mobbed as well. Or maybe they get off this time, only to be pounded upon by dozens of players in smaller ships who just want to take out the big guy.

How many times will their ships be boarded and stolen? What happens if while playing some of their crew log off? Leaving them less effective... or possibly not even able to fly?

If stolen, how many copies of the whale's ship is going to be flying around?

Meanwhile, assuming the whale (or whales) finally took off, what does the station look like? Erm... fifith or sixth question now? Is this going to look like a FPS deathmatch? Or will people be calling their ships and blowing each other to bits as they undock?

Anyone got any thoughts on how all this will play out?
