Hardware & Technical Saitek x55 rhino

I ordered an X55 the other day, it said delivery would be around 3 days. Then the next day they changed the (preliminary) delivery date to 2-3 July! That's like a month away. Alright, I will just keep drooling over this stick on screenshots until then! :D

Just wanted to share my excitement!

Where did you order from?

Those of you who has the X-55
What do you guys use for lateral thrust aka strafing around.
I have the top 4 way button on the throttle by my thumb area for that, but in the heat of the battle my thumb keep slipping of. I find myself pressing pretty hard against that button just so that I can keep controlling my ship in the direction I want it to strafe.
I've tried to set one of the hat switches on the stick but because I have the joystick on top of my desk those top hat switches are a bit hard to reach with my thumb. Especially in the middle of the battle when you are moving the stick around and twisting it as well while controlling the throttle, I literally have to let the stick go and re position my hand on it to be able to reach the top hat buttons. The only one I can comfortably reach is setup for power distribution.

So I am just curious how others have the "strafe" setup so that I can try different configurations.
I so wish that little joystick on the throttle could be configured for this. This almost makes me want to get a CH throttle because it has the joystick on the thumb area and it would work perfect for this purpose.

Fir lateral thrust, i too have this issue and have actually been caught out due to losing thumb grip and winding up a sitting duck for another commander.

I was thinking of either wearing my mountain bike glove on the left hand or to get a large enough rubber thimble thingy that people use when sorting through paper or notes. Its just a case of after an hourish of playing that the controls get slippery and my pc kicks out heat under the desk which doesn't help the sweaty palms issue much.

Funny you've mentioned the mtb gloves I was thinking the exact same thing.
Also thought about glueing something on top of that so my thumb doesn't slip off.
:)

I just picked up mine X55 today, I read about the sticking issues and took steps to fix it before I used the stick. It seem to be pretty good given the price. , I have had no issues with the software or drivers and I am running Windows 8.1 x64. I did go out to the website for the latest drivers and software. I did notice that my POV hat on the stick would not work without the software running but other than that everything looks fine. Frys offers a 30 day refund policy so I will log a ton of flight time and update the community if the performance begins to flatter after extended usage. Lastly there, is a way to modify the throttle so you can fly in reverse I just haven't found it yet.

UPDATE
I'm now getting ghosting on the stick HAT & POV buttons. I have to twist the stick a certain way to get those buttons to function. This is occurring in multiple titles not just ED. I am not waiting on Saitek support, I'm returning the entire X-55 Rhino today for the CH setup. After dropping $200 for this setup, I WOULDN'T recommend it. Save yourself the hassles and go with CH. In this case less is more.

You need to turn off usb legacy support in your bios and ensure your usb drivers are up to date directly from your motherboard vendor. We've already addressed this issue and solved it. If you have usb3, update the drivers and plug it in to the blue usb ports.

Please read the forum before slating the device so harshly. If the above doesn't work then by all means say your piece

Mine came today. I have that issue where no presets show up in the game so I'm not going to bother unpacking it yet. Tbh I wouldn't have the faintest idea how to set it up manually. They do seem to be back in stock now.

Brad, presets will only be displayed if the game detects that controller. So when you plug in the X55 and install the drivers and software, launch the game, you will see the X55 profile listed. It's not a bug :)

The game listed lots of presets during Alpha, including my Cyborg, at Alpha 4.03 they all disappeared bar the 3 basic ones, I think this is still an ongoing issue for many people. It's not related to drivers or software, the game just loses the presets.

If I have my X-55 unplugged I do not even have the option to select it from the controller menu. All I have is mouse and keyboard or custom.
If I plug the X-55 in the option to select the X-55 is in the options.
During Alpha 1.1 I did have the list of joysticks to pick from to set as preset regardless of having any joysticks plugged in or not.

Brad they disabled profiles unless the hardware is connected as it would become extremely difficult for people to naviated dozens of configurations. Even more so in final release when 40-50 controllers are supported.

It is intentional that you no longer see 'X' amount of profiles in the control screen. Set up the X55 on your computer and I can guarantee you that you will see the profile appear in the list.

If anyone wants me to upload my profile they can save in the relevant folder I will upload. Although I am in oxford for a few days, and I can't guarantee my x55 profile will be to any random persons taste.

back orderable

Just ordered one from cpc.farnell.com it says out of stock but if you order you will get an eta email (mine was due end of july) also don't browse for it, if you are an ED backer search for code CS2725388 (it wont appear normally) to get it for £150, del is free.

The market seems to be making my decision for me.

The Thrustmaster Warthog is currently only £30 more than the X55 Rhino at the moment.

I was tempted by the warthog, but the cheapest I've seen the full hotas setup for it was around £220, and that was only briefly a number of months ago, it is currently going for a lot more. Whereas I ordered my X55 last week for £141 and it was shipped today.

Sure you aren't looking at the price for the warthog stick on its own (no throttle), which is around £170?

Even cheaper in some less well known stores and eBay market.

Where did you see the X55 for £141?
