Well I am srry but that demo was staged....don´t get me wrong I am not one of those who think that this kind of game play can´t be delivered in some "possible"future....but I am one of those who had major concerns about the Crytek networking, massive battles and still horrible flight mechanics and none of that changed after this presentation at all......

Well, on the Networking end CIG is building their own, as for massive battles, that remains to be seen, I am hopeful for 40-50 people in a single battle. I don't see them being able to push 100 people even with dedicated servers, lag to Star Citizens/Elite style gameplay would kill it. As for flight mechanics, yes I agree with you on that end as well, not a fan of current twitch style flight/mouse control of gimals, hopefully 2.6 flight mechanics are a much needed improvement for the "Dog fighting"

That´s the thing, can you see any significant changes in networking that are any different from the original vanilla CE netcode after all this years? And in my opinion current FM are just made to be played from the 3PV....as you said it´s just 2 twitchy&fast if you looking via cockpit...honestly if they decide to keep them like this I wish they give us option for hud in the the 3PV....at least game could be kind of"arcadish"fun aKa Freelancer style which clearly it is atm.........

Ahh, for our consideration, appreciation and balanced critique...

...the demo is now on youtube:
part one at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FR3zddqesaQ
part two https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdZN6MuFU3c
and three https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpB-qvkQXSM

Thanks! I only jumped on the stream at the point where it looped at the end (wouldn't want to be the person responsible for that). Not that I missed a whole lot. Yes, it's nice planet tech, good job magic Germans. No, it clearly doesn't correspond to actual gameplay in a multiplayer universe, unless you have a bunch of players landing on top of each other at the single landing spot at that outpost where the ship is too big to be stowed away, Elite-style. And an ambush isn't going to come as much surprise when you've just watched a bunch of other players drive through it. But shhh, don't mention game play, just oooh and aaah at the pretty pictures, and buy a whatever.

Roberts seems to have disappeared into the planetary tech rabbit hole and forgotten that he's supposed to be producing not one but two playable games. Even he doesn't appear to foresee anything being released in the next year.

Also, when are they going to fix that flashing shadows bug that has been around forever?

Morning guys.

Only skimmed the last couple of pages. Take it that it wasn't a stunning success in LA last night?

No ideas on release dates for 3.0 / SQ42 then?

No ideas on what the MVP is going to be?

No ideas on ... anything aside from showing some planetary tech? This is still a space game right?

Did love that comment though by a guy here:

Minimal Viable Presentation. MVP

Did Ben Lenslock (developer) make an appearance?

Was Sandi Gardiner (actress, vp of the things) dress utterly inappropriate?

The pro-sc poster(s) seem a little salty about the MVPresentation so need to have a shot at ED to instead to make up for the lack of shiny from SC HQ.

That about cover it?

It's a yearly late-night infomercial, at this point. No SQ42. Spacebook? You're kidding me. If the referral links had successful proliferation, I'd venture to say it was multi-level marketing. But SC ranks up there on the Peter Popoff scale with me, at this point.

This is not what it initially was. I honestly think it was a pitch for a game. CR's game. Not anyone else's. But between his aspirations to be the George Lucas of his time, his need for validation after not being an active developer for so long, looking at the money rolling in (which I think initially took him by surprise, but he quickly warmed up to it), and getting people to buy into his vision(TM), it's become nothing short of a rapture-esque scheme.

BTW, a demo implies you can have a hands-on experience. If you can't, then it's nothing more than a trailer or short scripted scene.

So, CitCon was supposed to wow the world and get everyone hyped for the imminent release of Squadron 42 and the continued progression of Star Citizen's development?

And what did we get? Nothing. Outside of another shiny, totally not in game, tech demo set on a planet that looks pretty, but as is clearly apparent was made *purely* for CitizenCon, and was not indicative on any gameplay currently possible in Star Citizen.

And lots and LOTS of waffle. Padding out a show because it was shockingly bereft of any real content to present.

Not a single minute of playable in-game content.

And, most damning of all, barely any mention of Squadron 42 either. No gameplay shots. Nada.

Wasn't that SQ 42 first episode/prelude supposed to be released before the end of this year? Heck, wasn't the fabled 3.0 "Jebus patch" for the SC PTU supposed to be out around then also?

Instead people got neither, which pretty much confirms the rumours that SQ42 and 3.0 are getting delayed even *further* into next year and beyond.

And if the Twitch stream viewing numbers were any indication, then interest in all things Star Citizen is starting to tail off. Badly. If you are a highly anticipated game on the verge of release that is looking to make the maximum impact on the gaming market, having your livestreaming numbers at your biggest event of the year fall from 70,000 at peak last year, to 34,000 this year, is NOT a good sign. At all.

And to top all of that off, on the eve of CitizenCon, this happened....

The SC reddit is interesting. A lot of people boiling it down to:

Yeah. We want to see the game not a replacement for Discord, 3rd party forums etc.

And what??? Sandworms??? Cmon that's just blatantly trying to enthuse Dune fans. What are they going to next a "deathstar".....Ooooooooooooo :(

or something equally tastelessly ripped from popular sci-fi culture?

Ridiculous.

Man, am I glad I didn't stay up for this. For all the inane, staged scenes they put in (a sandstorm blowing apart your assets? like that's ever going to happen in an MMO game), it's pretty clear for anyone paying attention they still have a long way ahead of them. Biomes? That little stretch of vegetation the speeder bike went through used exactly one tree mesh for the larger, predominent tree species. And the Mako driving/handling? Those are not even close to real suspension physics. The body just floats along the surface undisturbed, while the wheels move up and down keeping contact with the ground. The first Halo did it better 15y ago.

Very underwhelming all of it, but the real news is that there was no news. No game(s) will be releasing anytime soon, if at all.

Very valid points, basically more of the same...
Also I can add that demo was single player only

Also this part :)

Really Chris?!, I know one game that does this too, maybe even better:

;)
In general, looks like massive content delays are expected...
